This municipality has done a stellar job of restoring & maintaining the brick streets, downtown. The train station is a stellar centerpiece of the old town. Being Sunday, we didn't find much activity, but we enjoyed strolling around the area. We found a great breakfast, at a downtown place.
One thing I have noticed as we are travelling in this area is that every small town seems to have a "historic downtown." I am never sure what to expect, but when we have time we stop just to see what's being offered.Sikeston has done a nice job of renovating the small area, but there is really not a lot to see, historically, other than the train depot, cobblestone streets and old homes. I don't think anyone famous slept here, but it is a nice walk and a few shops near the depot add to the charm. This is a quick stopover if you have some extra time on your hands and are in Sikeston anyway, but it isn't really a destination.
Clean downtown area with depot and other circa 1900 buildings. Pick up a home tour tour map and see all the circa 1900 homes there
Not much to see, one vintage store was open, the other was closed. We did walk part of the historic house tour and it was good. Some great looking old , big homes.
Love what they have done to restore & revive the historic downtown area! Need more eateries, maybe a brew-pub!
There are a few little antique shops and consignment shops. I wouldn't recommend this as a destination point, but it was a good way to break up a drive.
This is a small town that still has a downtown. It is worth a few minutes to stop the car, walk the streets and look in the windows. Like many small towns it is not a vibrant as it once was however you will still enjoy.
Congrats to those heading up and doing the work of restoring this historic downtown district. You're doing it right! A great place to take a long stroll and do some shopping in some unique and interesting shops. I kept looking for Andy, Aunt Bea, or Barney; this community has such a "Mayberry" feel about it :)
We went to a great bake shop and to a few other shops. They were all very unusual places to look around and enjoy. Take a couple of days for things.
