Don't miss out on this gem in Springfield, Mo. The Springfield Art Museum has an excellent selection of a variety of artwork from local artists to Asian and European countries. The museum is open daily at no cost. While you are visiting, stop by the Gift Shop for an excellent selection of handcrafted items, scarves, notecards as well as pottery and jewelry. Be sure to visit the special exhibit of the Watercolor USA with paintings from across the country. You won't be disappointed!

This free attraction is definitely worth a stop for any traveler that enjoys taking in cultural sights. There is a great deal of variety here: natural exhibits, artwork from the Renaissance onward, and art and antiquities from Asia and Europe. Even some of the modern art is actually worth seeing. There is definitely a good attribution of local and traveling galleries, as well as an auditorium that hosts some interesting displays. The museum also sponsors other events: so if you are in town it is worth checking out what they are offering during your stay as most of it is free or at a very low cost.

This is where my career began almost 50 years ago when I took art classes all summer. Went from there to become a designer and retired eventually. This has several shows during the year including one of the finest watercolor shows in the midwest. If you are in town and have even just one extra hour you should go. You probably will stay longer. Better yet - take your grandkids and stay two hours.

As an artist and designer, I like to see local arts venues when visiting different cities or towns. This has lots of varied art works and exhibits that contribute to the importance as an art center. I really enjoyed the ceramic and pottery exhibits,

This museum is small, but nice overall. They also offer classes if you're interested in that kind of thing.

Had a date day with my fiance and took him to the art museum. They have a pretty nice variety of different art available, and when we were there, they were setting up a new exhibit - nice to see that they change them up a bit to give you something new to see if you're a frequent visitor! The downside: the building's layout is a little confusing. Most museums sort of flow you through the different exhibits. My fiance and I kept wandering, trying to figure out if we'd seen everything already or not. Still, free admission, courteous staff - can't really complain!

American History Paintings. Sculptures signed by famous sculptors of different decades. Modern and old paintings portraiting the important times of American History.

Really nice small-medium sized Art Museum. Super friendly staff and the nice little gift shop run by the museum association. The exhibits were surprisingly diverse. The place was slightly hard to find but that is not uncommon for most of the attractions in Springfield. You will eventually find it; and you will be glad you went.

This is a place I love going to .... exhibits change periodically and the variety is good even though I wish it was bigger. I always find something that impresses and moves me. I love being inspired by art!!

I'm always impressed with this museum. The water color exhibit is my favorite every year! The local art that they display is always good and I love the area that they have for children. I recently took my niece and nephew and thought they would be bored but they loved it!

We had to choose inside things to do because of the heat and both enjoy art so we figured "Why not?" Boy are we glad we went! Entrance is free which is a bonus, but they do accept donations which we left on the way out. The museum is not huge, but it did take us a little over an hour to go through completely and that was with one exhibit hall closed for installation of a new exhibit. So if you're a lover of art don't miss this small jewel. Pottery, Oil, Water Color, and Dye Paintings, Sketches, statues, and more.Grandma Moses, Picasso, and much more!

I admit, I had no idea Springfield had an art museum. I was checking out the park next to it and went in on a whim. It's free, it's good good variety, and when I went in June of 2014 it had a juried water color competition on exhibit that had some lovely pieces. They also have some sketches by masters and a Grandma Moses painting. Staff was very nice and enthusiastic about their museum. It won't take your whole morning to go through, but it's nice hour or two.

This museum is sleepy and quiet, but it can be much better than large, crowded museums. The museum also has local art and chidren's art that rotates.

I grew up in Spfld and we spent spring break visiting family. When I was young, I had my artwork displayed in some of the yearly 'all school exhibitions' and knew my 10 y/o son would enjoy seeing other kid's artwork. Additionally, we love animals, so having Audubon's exhibit was a great draw. Since I was here many years ago, they have expanded and improved the museum. They had worksheets for kids to engage them in the exhibits, and I was so happy to see my son busy sketching after being inspired by the other kids work. However, we almost left before we got started. When entering the museum, several staff behind the counter looked up at us- seeming surprised and even agitated by our presence. I thought I was at the 'wrong' entrance (there is only 1!) and checked my watch, but we were well within open hours. We finally asked if there was a fee, and if we could take a tour. A woman then said it was free, we could help ourselves to the brochures, to not use flash photography, not to touch the art, and to stay at least 12 inches back from it. As I had left my giant strobe flashes and "I love to fondle art" T-shirt in the car, this greeting startled me a little. A bit more welcoming woman tried to make up for the abrupt intro by showing our son where the kids worksheets were. The exhibits were good. It is free to tour. If staff could improve their welcoming, this could be a nice retreat.

If you like Art Museum you might enjoy this small museum. I wasn't impressed..but that is just me. I'm not a fan of art museums. There just wasn't much to see ..
