The variety of chocolates was good and it was difficult to choose, but my espresso truffle was not the creamy delight I was expecting. It was rather dry in the middle. A friend got the rum chata truffle, which was not rum enough for her. Another got a white chocolate turtle, which she said was too sweet and didn't finish. If you can find Julie and her Toffee on the Run, that's a better place both to spend your money and satisfy your taste buds.
We were recently in Hermann visiting friends, and thought our hostess might enjoy some chocolates as a "thank you". Well---lucky us! We found this amazing little shop and could have spent all morning in it, just breathing the aroma of fine chocolate. There is a wonderful selection of goodies, and the owner is happy to explain all of his creations. The truffles rank right up there as some of the best I have ever eaten. Job well done!
We came by the Chocolate Box on our way back to the house one day for a treat and some gifts to take back home. If you are a chocolate lover, beware. The smell when you walk through the door is wonderful and there are so many choices. The peanut clusters were outstanding and the people that received gifts from here were very pleased.
Ricky's chocolate is a nice place to pick up a sweet treat after all the wine tasting. The place is not to fancy like the retail outlets of Godiva, etc. but you will get what you go in for. The chocolates are fresh and tasty. I would definitely recommend the truffles. There are numerous options for one to try. White, Milk and Dark Chocolate, Truffles, Chocolate covered nuts, coffee beans, etc etc etc. I will definitely recommend stopping at this place and giving it a try. It will surprise you.
We stopped in here on a whim while taking the scenic route to Jefferson City to see the Missouri State Capitol. We purchased four different types of chocolates, and while all were good, the English toffee was the definite standout. It was not too hard, as toffee can sometimes be. It was a wonderful consistency, and so delicious. If we had tasted it before driving too far away, we would have gone back to get more. I also appreciated the humor in the writing on their awning, which says "Almost Famous for Hand Made Chocolates".
We went in looking to pick up something sweet to give as a little gift. Service was horrible, just plain rude. Place was visibly dirty. And the chocolate? It was absolutely some of the worst I've ever had. The truffles were dry and crumbly, not rich and decadent, which is what a truffle is supposed to be. Their hand scribbled signs look sloppy and lazy. A complete waste of time and money.
We came to hermann for the weekend wine trail and did some browsing in the town. Ricky's is along the main road to hermann so not too hard to find. It's a little bit pricey but they make it all in store and by hand so it makes it worth it because its AMAZING! my husband got one of the HUGE smores treats and he inhaled it. I ordered some truffles and they were devoured within minutes. I would recommend walking to the gas station and getting a milk to go with all the delicious chocolates you will get from rickys!!!
Everything here is good if you like chocolate. It is expensive but considering they make it all themselves, it is nice to support a local business and have a sweet that is not at all artificial.
Who does not like chocolate.. Seriously... So that was okay, but at $1/oz it is pricey. And it is not that much better than other options (outside of Hermann)
This place is definitely worth a stop! Great quality and variety. This was a very special treat on our short vacation.
If you are in Herman, Mo. and you do not stop here, you have missed out on a little bit of Heaven on Earth. If you love chocolate.. you MUST stop here! It is delicious!!
It was a very rainy Friday afternoon. We walked in wanting some yummy chocolate. The girl behind the counter did not greet us. Weird? We looked around the tiny place. Wishing she would tell us about why the chocolate was unique... Or really anything about it. She didn't. Finally I asked for a black & white cookie (delicious!) some wonderful toffee. She threw it in a sack and asked if that's all. We gave her our money and as I walked out the door I said, "thank you, we will have a nice day" because she didn't say a word. What a bummer.
Everything we tried in here was fabulous! Small store with very friendly workers. I have never seen a place use the quantity if Caramel in any item like they do! Lots if caramel in everything ! Great job !!!
Everything we have had here is excellent and we got a mix match of two boxes. The chocolate covered coffee beans clusters was a little too much coffee beans but boy did that wake you up! Place is highly recommended.
After seeing Ricky's Chocolate Box profiled in the book, Savor Missouri River Hill County, a girlfriend and I headed to Hermann, Mo., from Columbia. This shop was definitely worth the 1 1/2 hour drive. From the moment we stepped into the store and smelled that amazing scent of high-quality chocolate to when we departed with only ONE chocolate, it was a great stop on our trip. Why only ONE chocolate? It was a warm day and we didn't want our purchases to melt on the trip home. Yes, high quality chocolate melts quickly and the high 80-degree day forbid us from taking chocolate home ... without a cooler! Next time, we promised ourselves, and there will be a next time, we will bring a cooler if the day is warm. The chocolate I had was fantastic, smooth and creamy, melt in your mouth heaven.Even prior to our purchase, I knew it would be great chocolate. The woman behind the counter knew all about the items in the showcase and even offered us a sample, which, of course, I took. Who wouldn't?Ricky's also offers to ship items and I'm definitely going to put this shop on my Christmas list for buying online for friends and family members. One more reason why only one chocolate, I must confess, we'd already stopped and indulged in lunch at The Wurst Haus, which is within walking distance. The only don't I can offer here is don't wait until you are there to realize you need to take a cooler so you can bring home some of this amazing chocolate. So don't wait, go to Hermann and try this chocolate. And if it is warm, don't forget the cooler!
