First time visitor of this museum although I've traveled by many times. The interior woodwork is jaw dropping and beautiful and the different kinds of wood used interesting. The owner was involved in the lumber business as well as politics so it's not that surprising it such a beautiful home. My only disappointment was not being able to visit the upstairs bedrooms although that certainly makes for another reason to visit!

If your near Torrington make sure to stop in and get a tour. I found the staff to be very helpful and ready to answer questions. Also, look for Eddie the lap cat. Real friendly and loves attention.

This is a beautiful old home filled with interesting period pieces as well as fine examples of collectors knick knacks, the museum is very interesting and gives a thorough overview of local history. This is a great stop for locals and visitors alike.

Such a beautiful step back in time when craftsmanship was like a work of art. Gorgeous wood throughout the house with fine detail in every room. A must see at Christmas but worth a trip any time of year. The elegance of a Newport home in downtown Torrington.

If you have never had the opportunity to visit, do yourself a favor, the house itself is lovely and being on the grounds of the Historical Society, there is so much history they offer. Mark and Gail are always happy to show you around.

We were on a 4 week driving trip through New England and had chosen a small b&b just outside of Torrington on our way to the Hancock Shaker Village the next day. We decided to stop at HFH before arriving at the b&b for the evening. Torrington is a big city and we didn't find anything else there that we wanted to see, but we were glad we found the Hotchkiss-Fyler House. Hidden amongst all of the "big box" type of businesses and down a hard to locate driveway on Main Street, the houses are a real delight. We just visited one of them...the main house. It was filled with beautiful antiques and a really fascinating local history maintained by the Torrington Historical Society. The original house owners and their daughter and her husband were the only occupants over the years. It was the daughter who maintained the house and was a lover of flowers reflected by the art she collected over the years and the beautiful wall paintings. The garden outside was in full cooperation with gorgeous blooms while we were there. The gentleman who gave us the tour was quite interesting We enjoyed our visit very much.

A beautiful home with original furniture throughout. It is especially fine at Christmas, when the house is decorated in the Victorian manner, and the table is set with china, crystal and silver. It is not to be missed.

We enjoyed this tour. It is a beautiful house and decorated with lovely holiday decorations during the holiday season. The only drawback was the host was very unkidfriendly and did not want to answer questions from anyone other than the adults in the group. Felt rushed through our tour.

We visited this historic house while spending a long weekend in the Hartford area. This is one of the nicest historic homes we have ever toured (and we've seen dozens). Only 2 families occupied the home, the original owners and their daughter and son in law. So all the furnishings are original. The son in law was a builder so no expense was spared in the building and it shows. The interiors are amazing. It is now the home of the Torrington Historical Society and the tour guides were lovely. What an amazing site. There is really not that much to see in Hartford itself other than the Mark Twain House, Harriet Beecher Stowe House, Butler McCook House, the State Capital and the Athenaum.But a short drive away is this incredible house. I just can't say enough about this attraction.Please take the time to visit, you won't be dissapointed.
