I've taken a couple of trips out here for different occasions-great views and good wines. Will return.

Visited Hume Vineyard Sept 2013. The directions on the Virginia Winery Guide was misleading and confusing (as were the road-signs back at Highway 66 10-miles away); appears to try to fool the drivers into taking this arduous winding path for 10-miles into cow-poop country before they release nothing out here worth the effort. There were no Grapes and vew vines growing anywhere; everything barren. The gravel road leading to the Vineyard appears to be purposely grated with deep gouges, such that drivers must feel Rumble-Strips shaking the car (and occupants) violently for 0.75-miles so much that had to drive that distance at about 2-5 mph on dusty road. Road so narrow that constantly needed to drive into the muddy ditch so that oncoming traffic (too rude to wait, or even slow down) could get by; road was 1-lane wide. There was no lodge (shack at the street-side but closed-down; tiny or non-existant parking area. View was of cow-pasture hillside of barren land. Obviously, the Vineyard owner lied in the Virginia Wine Guide when they said it was romantic, good for picnics, or other Sales-Points, etc.. No one in their right mind would ever suffer this effort to come all the way out here again. Avoid at all costs.

Be a nice place to sit and chill and drink some wine. Take a snack and enjoy the view. Had the look of a nice European vineyard. Wine wasn't much - typical Virginia wine - overpriced and underdeveloped. Maybe in time.....

The views were wonderful the wine steward was on her first day so she knew NOTHING, but was pleasant to talk too. I like rustic but a Johnny Blue isn't rustic it's "construction worker only if I gotta". Too many wineries in Virginia to spend too much time here.

I've been to about half of the 200+ wineries, and Hume is one of my favorites, right up there with Linden, Glen Manor, and Cave Ridge. The reds are the star here. I'm bummed that the 2009 Detour is no longer available, but I'm really looking forward to the 2011 Petit Verdot.I don't understand all these attacks on the manager, though. The tasting room experience is a huge asset at Hume. It's rustic, unpretentious, and fun. The staff is always chatty and informative. In fact, I've seen people be so rude to the staff that the owner had to get involved. (shrug) To each their own, but today is going to be a great day for some Hume wine!

The wine at Hume is some of the best we've had in Virginia, and the view is breathtaking. We loved the Voigner and the Rose! The tasting room is very rustic and learned how the building was built and salvaged from an old barn on site. Very charming.Sorry, but we also found the tasting room manager to be bossy and pretentious; maybe she has her good days and bad. Hope the owner is aware.

I've been to over 50 wineries in Virginia so I have a bit of experience with them. The wines at Hume are quite good..perhaps not best I have tasted but very good examples of Virginia Wine in each class. What made the experience for us, however, was our treatment by the tasting manager Mae. It was a slow day but Mae took great care of us, didn't rush us, and came over to chat a few times in amongst her other duties while my wife and I were sharing a bottle. I'm not sure about the experience the other commenter had, maybe its preference in a tasting experience, but I really enjoyed that Mae engaged us in conversation and didn't just pour, collect money, and act as though we were a bother the way some other wineries do. We had a wonderful final stop on my birthday wine tour and Mae was a big part of that. The nice wines helped as well. I'd recommend this smaller winery to anyone, especially if Mae is serving.

The thing that stood out to me, that brought me to review this winery most was the lovely experience I had with the tasting room manager Mae. So I was surprised when I read the precious post. The wines were delicious, the tasting room quaint, but Mae made the experience. Personally I enjoy talking with the tasting room staff. Many places the pourers will seem too busy or not interested in talking, even when prodded. Mae was friendly, informative and a pleasure to spend the afternoon with.

Love the wines at Hume! The vineyard is the brainchild of a Frenchman who grew up drinking the real deal and decided to make his winemaking dream come true in Virginia. The wine and tasting experience is unpretentious and overall enjoyable. My only beef is the tasting room manager, Mae (I think that was her name). I see that she received a positive mark from a previous reviewer, but we found her to be very annoying not only to us, but to the others whom she was working with. She kept saying that she was their "boss" then corrected them during their tastings...also kept butting in on our conversation, which we found to be a huge distraction from the experience. Best advice, get through the tasting quickly, particularly if she is there and then move on to enjoying your wine either inside the tasting room or in the lovely outdoor surroundings. Hume if you're reading this...give Mae some PR lessons! Also a bathroom with plumbing would be a huge plus, but understand that this isn't easy!

This is a winery that gets it.Last November, we were coming back to Reston from an Episcopal church retreat, when we decided to branch off and visit a new winery. Imagine our surprise when we realized that the small caravan of cars branched off to Hume Winery.Entering the "recycled barn" that is the tasting room, we were greeted heartily by staff who were helpful and friendly. The selections of whites-through-reds more than met my expectations for Virginia wines. The pourer told us that the winemaker grew up in France and is committed to growing the quality of red wine in Virginia.SO DELICIOUS.So pleasantly surprised. Want to know what y'all have to say.

In full disclosure: I prefer to give my money to local, small businesses that produce a great product. That being said, I really like Hume. I mean - how often do you go to a winery where the winemaker (and owner) is pouring for you? I have been there a handful of times, and the wines are always very, very good. I always end up leaving, having purchased multiple bottles of wine.Go for the tasting. Buy a bottle, and maybe some meat or cheese. Sit on the front porch, and enjoy. Lovely setting.

I come back to this little quaint family run winery all the time. The wines are spectacular, the winemaker/owner/next door neighbor (all the same person) is knowledgeable and approachable, and that view ... sorry, I needed a moment there! A great place to escape to from the hustle and bustle of DC / Northern Virginia craziness on the weekend. Highly recommended.

Hume Vineyards is a must visit for those looking for Virginia's best! Wines to please lovers of reds and whites. The Seyval Blanc is amazing but it's the Detour and Chambourcin that are the stars at Hume. The vineyard is beautiful. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. We return every chance we get.

My husband and I visited Hume for wine tasting. Tasting Fees are $6.00. Wine prices are $7.00 - $8.00 per glass, and $19.00 - $25.00 per bottle. We tasted six wines. Mae, the tasting room manager, took excellent care of us, explaining each wine. We had purchased a deal for this winery which included cheese and crackers, and $20 to spend. The winery is modest with a large tasting bar, 4 love seat type couches with tables and ottomans. It was a nice, quiet experience. Be sure to pick up The Fauquier Wine Trail brochure and have each winery you visit in Fauquier County stamp it for a chance to win prizes.
