Tasting wine at Zaphaniah is a personal and enjoyable affair. The tasting room is actually in the owner's home and is held in one of four different rooms. Bonnie and Bill are very personable and knowledgable about their wines and will even tell you about the three generations leading back to Zephaniah himself. The wine is delicious and made with care. Don't miss Zephaniah if you want to experience quality Virginia wines.
We took my in laws here over the weekend and found the best little vineyard! Zephaniah is a family owned (3 generations) and operated beautiful little farm out off route 9 in Loudoun County. The owner was so generous and gave us a personal tour of the vineyard (you can taste the grapes off the vine), the new construction and the grounds, while letting us know all about the family history of Navy Captains and farming, down to the wonderful family recipe for the Sangria he served at his son's wedding. What an amazing experience!! And the wine is pretty great too!!Thanks so much Mr. Hatch. It was the highlight of our visit!!!
A small family run vineyard that welcomes you the minute you walk in the door. We've recently lived in Sonoma Valley California so we wanted to see how the local wines compare. We enjoyed our tasting enough to leave with a couple of bottles in hand. We will be back for more. We truly enjoyed chatting with the owner about the wines, the history of the vineyard and the family. A very enjoyable afternoon. Well worth the trip.
I loved our trip to this winery over the weekend. While they are a small homegrown operation, their wines were absolutely fabulous! Bonnie and Bill were so accommodating and friendly! I will definitely return!!
We visited Zephaniah Farm Vineyard on a Sunday afternoon. Their tasting area is in an historic family house in their living room. You go in a sit at one of the tables and the owner comes to your table to serve you. One of the owners was pouring our tastings for us that day. She didn't describe the taste you should get from the wine because she thinks you might be disappointed if you didn't taste what she had predicted. We enjoyed all of their wines and purchased bottles of Chardonnay and Three Captains Red. We tasted five wines and had a glass of their Sangria that was wonderful. As we were leaving, we talked to the other owner. Both of them were very nice and seem to enjoy sharing their wine. You could take a walk through the grapevines but we didn't have time to do that...I didn't really see a farm. There is an area outside to sit and drink a glass of wine. There isn't a lot of parking since there isn't a parking lot...you just park along their drive. The tasting is $7 and doesn't include the glasses. They are only open on Saturday and Sunday.
A friend of mine had given me a bottle of their 2010 Cab Franc a year ago. My husband and I opened it over Valentine's Day and I knew we had to get our hands on more. I emailed the winery asking when they'd be open and we went on their first day of the season. It's a small, family-run farm/vineyard and was probably the best tasting experience I've had. The owners themselves did the tasting and gave us a brief history of the vineyard and their family. We learned more than we would have at another winery, and the wine... was excellent! It was a great way to spend the afternoon and start the season. We'll definitely be going here again in a few months to walk around and enjoy the gardens. I highly recommend it for all wine lovers, beginners and experts. The entire experience was charming! We ended up buying a case!
Visiting this winery was like visiting old friend. The winery is ran out of their historic home by the family/owners. You walk in and have seat at a table and are entertained by stories while being poured wine. Then wine itself is pretty darn good. I loved their Viognier.
Although this was advertised as a farm AND winery tour, there really wasn't any farm to see. The wine tasting was very nice, done by members of the family at individual tables. I found the Vigioner great but my husband who prefers reds did not care for any reds.
We love trying different VA wineries and we have toured many over the years. Zephaniah Farm Vineyard is one of the best. The tasting room is inside of a historic home....over 200 years old. It is filled with antiques and memoriablia. Husband and wife own and opperate the business along with their three grown children. They are very friendly and tell many stories of the wines as well as the history of the home. Tasting is done at one of three dining room tables or you may choose to sit on a sofa or parlor chairs, depending on the amount of people there at one time. It is a very comfortable atmosphere. We enjoyed every one of the wines we tasted. We had two whites and four reds as well as a wonderful sangria. Depending on taste there has to be at least one wine there for everyone. We enjoyed sitting outside under the trees taking in the peace and tranquillity of the surrounding countryside.
Visited Zephaniah Farm Vineyard for the first time today with family. You are truly made to feel at home because the tasting room is the owners home. It was the first time we have ever enjoyed a tasting sitting down. We were seated at the dinner table in the families dining room and attended to by not only excellent staff but also the owners themselves and there family. Beautiful old home [circa 1830] and grounds. Excellent wines... take your wine outside and enjoy it under the large old trees. Don't miss the opportunity to try something different.
Everything about our experience was amazing. Starting with our initial call to make a reservation... Bill (the owner) was so nice and accommodating, we felt welcome already. When we arrived, we were seated in the library of the house the owner grew up in as a child, he told us stories about his family, history of the area, the land, etc. We were all wowed and we hadn't even tried the wine yet. There were 7 of us who have all done numerous wine tastings over the years and not one of us had ever been to a better vineyard and had more enjoyable wines. Every single bottle we tried was incredible. It was very apparent the time and attention that is spent on each bottle at this small batch production vineyard. Their attention to detail and love for what they do shows through. This is our new favorite place! Zephaniah is truly amazing, as are all the people there. Thanks Bill for an AMAZING day!
Had a great time tasting the delicious wines at Zephaniah. Tastings are sit-down style with other tasters. Had a great time discussing wines and wineries with staff and tasters alike. I would definitely visit here again. I would love to see the gardens in the spring time when the flowers are blooming. Tasting fee of $5 per person. Moderately priced wines. Two whites, one rose, and 4 reds (including two Chambourcin).
Friends brought us here the first time we were wine tasting in Virginia and we fell in love. The wine, the atmosphere, the people, the property are all so inviting and wonderful. It is very much off the beaten path, and not boldly advertised, but it is absolutely worth the visit. The wines are delicious, delightful, well crafted, and only sold in their tasting room. Bill and Bonnie and their family truly pour their hearts into their wines and the results have us coming back time and time again. You taste the wine in the cozy comfort of the old family home. You are told a bit about the wine but you are not told what you should be tasting or what you should be feeling. The Hatches have none of the pretension or snobbery that sometimes dominates at other wineries. While there are many, many wineries in Loudoun County, this is the one must-visit.
This was our first visit to Zephaniah. We were pleasantly surprised. The tasting room is in the family home which dates back to 1830. We were greeted at the door by Bill, one of the owners and given a history of the family and home. Zephaniah is named after Bill's great grandfather. We were taken to a dining/sitting room with a nice fire going in the fireplace. We sat by the fire while tasting their wonderful wines. We loved each one. Bill explained each wine we tasted. It was a unique and wonderful experience. There is a $5.00 tasting fee. Wine prices by the bottle are $22.00 - $27.00. We look forward to going back.
This is a must see and taste experience. We visited recently, sampled excellent wine in the dining room of an historic home, sat in front of the fire, and enjoyed hearing about the history of the farm from the owner. Very unique & owners are very genuine and kind.
