Colonial, wood floors, wait staff in colonial dress, food was great and reasonably priced. Liked the food, chairs were old and wooden - - may not be comfortable for some.

We visited during restaurant week. This is the place where George Washington and other historical figures used to eat and drink. Our waitress was mediocre. The place wasn't crowded and she wasn't very fast. She gave a brief history on the tavern and told us about a ghost that supposedly haunts this place. I ordered the prime rib. It was good..nothing to rave about. It wasn't bad, but I probably wouldn't visit again.

As a history nut, I enjoyed visiting this museum and going on the tour very much. Our tour guide was fun and informative, she liked making jokes, which made it even more fun. I liked that our guide talked about the history of the building and how that fit in with the history of the entire city etc. The rooms are in great condition and are lovely. The large ball room in the taller building was beautiful (it was decorated for an upcoming wedding). The tour is only $5 per person, which isn't that expensive.

The museum is like being there in the late 1700s. Very well kept. The guide was very knowledgable of the whole history of the place. The museum is near the main plaza and just in front of the city hall.

I went here as something different when I was staying in Washington. It's a fascinating place and the tour guide answered all of my ignorant questions about American history. Old Town is definitely worth visiting and is a relaxing break away from the grandeur of DC.

If you love history this is a must see. Very small group tours filled with so much information and stories. To actually be in the room where Thomas Jefferson had his Inaugural reception! Located right in the heart of Old Town. Only a few dollars admission and i got the AAA discount!

When in Alexandria Old Town, stop in here to see one of the places where Washington really did eat from time to time (his house is just up the block!)This place has not been furnished with period-appropriate furnishings (not sure why not) but the architecture and history alone make this place worth a trip. This place is still a restaurant and tavern, and has a long record of continuous operation in this very spot. It really feels like Colonial America!

very well preserved, the tour guide was a wealth of information (building history, what it was used for, back ground of owner, who (famous) frequented the establishment) well worth a stop, very historical

Worth a visit, although to British minds the attempt by the guide to "role-play" grated a little. There are many historic sites in Alexandria and I would include this one on your itinerary

If you're coming to Old Town Alexandria because of the historic charm you owe it to yourself to visit Gadsby's. Not having lived in the 1800's ;-) i presume the presentations are period correct and, for me at least, interesting. And since you're at the museum why not get a meal in the Tavern for a bit more of the experience? You can round the day out with a tour of the Stabler-Leadbeater Apothecary and take the evening ghost tour.

It's an ok place, it's located in the heart of downtown Alexandria, we ordered a salad and a pizza to share, pizza is ok, nothing to brag about the salad needs some love,

Gadsby's is a great stop for visitors and locals with out of town guests. The entrance fee is minimal. The tour guides enthusiastic and informative. The Museum gives you a good idea of how a traveler experienced Alexandria in the early years of the city. The place was an important location for significant events in those early years as well. The Museum often recreates those special events, and if you are lucky enough to be there at the right time, I highly recommend them. I like to finish the tour with lunch at the tavern so my guests get the full Old Towne experience.

I was really looking forward to this after reading good reviews. We reached at the museum in the afternoon. It wasn't at all crowded. We were greeted by a little girl in period dress as soon as we entered which was a surprise, but a good one. We entered into the tiny gift shop and asked for the tour. We bought 2 tickets (5$ per person, 1$ off if you have AAA membership) and he directed us back to the little girl, who directed us again to one of the rooms right behind her. We then, very quickly realized that ALL the docents were kids. Please don't get me wrong, we loved them and appreciated their effort. They did the best they could, but I believe our experience would have been much different if we had an adult docent guide us. As for the museum, it's filled with history. Two young girls were demonstrating ice-cream making, which was fun.

Do not miss Gadsby's Tavern Museum! The museum is a fascinating place with loads of history - George Washington and many other famous Revolutionary War participants dined here numerous times. Then go next door to the restaurant and ask Alan to make you the best rum punch you ever had. He was so nice to talk to, and very knowledgable, too.

Seems like "just yesterday" I + my new husband innocently visited Gadsby's Tavern Museum, thinking of a possible libation, we were told the museum was simply that in 1969. But, since then, I've thoroughly enjoyed a lovely, yummy dinner in the dining room, surrounded by family & friends!
