Not much to see other than the building. Right across the street from the Lehnis Museum, so you should take a few minutes to go ove and take some pictures. small gift shop.
We decided to stop in the depot and Harvey House for a short visit. The staff was incredibly helpful and full of information about the Harvey House history, showing us photos from the past to compare to how the depot is today. Nice gift shop. Did not have time to visit the Railroad Museum, which is across the street, but plan to next visit.
The Santa Fe Depot and Harvey House is a very large, beautifully restored building, containing the Brownwood Visitors Center and the Brownwood Store. The store is a great place to shop for Texas-themed gifts, books, toys, clothing, specialty jewelry, coffees, sauces, and candy, and the Chamber of Commerce Visitors Center has an extensive collection of tourist information. Upstairs you can tour the 3-room Gordon Wood Hall of Champions, dedicated to renowned Texas high school coach Gordon Wood. Across the hall is a sample dorm room of the famous Harvey Girls. Other rooms on the floor were guest rooms for overnight railroad guests, now occupied by the Brownwood Economic Development Council offices. The large Depot building next door is now used for special events, banquets, and weddings. Open Mon-Friday. A must stop for visitors to Brownwood.
