Though small, the tasting room and gift shop were nicely done and well stocked. The wines were absolutely the highlight of our visit, as they should be! I definitely recommend you plan a visit here if you will be in the area...and make sure you try the Toro de Tejas while you're there!

We visited this place for the first time. The place was nice and the wine was good. It does however have a small tasting room that is crowded if a large group is there. We had to wait a while before we could even get to the bar area. We did enjoy the wines.

Love the wines. Great staff. Fun events. Happy our friends are "members". Makes for a fun day!!It's a day trip to visit but worth it!!!

Intimate winery on beautiful grounds. Our hostess/server was very knowledgeable and friendly, and the wines were a delight. Charming gift shop, too. So many wineries to choose from in this area - we recommend this one!

One can sample five different wines for $5.00. Tasting fee is refunded if you make a wine purchase. They have an excellent selection of wines to sample. Found this winery to be very personable and customer friendly. The gentleman serving wine, Ivan, was able to narrow down the type of wine I would enjoy from the samples he provided. Highly recommend this winery and will go back here again to sample and purchase their wines.

Ivan Knapp was our server and he demonstrated a passion for the winery. He provided facts about the winery as we tasted the 5 samples we selected. I thought the Merlot had a smooth taste. We were also given recommendations for eating establishments in Fredericksburg. Another staff member called another winery to schedule an appointment for us. Positive experience for our first winery visit on a road trip to Oregon.

This was a repeat visit and as usual, we enjoyed ourselves. We tried 5 wines for $5 (port was included if you so chose) and the tasting fee was waived with a one bottle purchase. No problem there as we bought 9 bottles. They have a wide variety of wines and they are ALL produced using Texas fruit. I wish the reds were kept a little cooler and closer to cellar temp, but all in all a great place to taste and something for everyone.

This is a high volume low quality winery. Yes they use TX grapes but their wines are avg to poor. Several I tasted had off putting noses. The server had no knowledge of what she was pouring. Even though there was only one other couple in the tasting room the service was very so so. Some gentleman from the winery (the wine maker?) was in the tasting room and was telling the other couple how they don't bother with barrels.... I could go on but you get the picture. Save your time and palate and visit some of the quality wineries in the area.

We visit the Texas Hill Country about once a year. Texas Hills is always one of our stops. Their wines are reasonably priced, the tasting fees are waived with purchases, and their quality is consistently excellent. We're surprised at other reviews regarding the owner's customer service... always professional and friendly when we are there. When we visited yesterday we drove in and turned around, however... a bus tour overfilled the small tasting area. So, on the way back to Austin we stopped by and it was worth it. Kick butt Cab is always a fine choice.

We stopped by yesterday as part of a tour group. While I didn't mind the 30 minute delay (we were tardy so I thought them making us wait was alright, it was a nice day out and we took a walk) - what I did find offensive was :1. Lady behind the counter lecturing members of the group on tardiness (as a group of 30 people, we have no control over this)2. they didn't (or refused to) unlock the restrooms for the group for a long time so there was a queue of 7+ people for a single stall3. the owner's non-apology (along the lines of "sorry we made you wait for a half hour, we had to take care of the group that was actually on time") - I didn't mind waiting at all but his comment really rubbed me the wrong way. I've never encountered this kind of passive aggressiveness from a service oriented business. It was pretty rude.As for the wine - being "one of the largest producers in Texas" doesn't make you one of the best. I would recommend their Cabernet. Their Syrah was dismal. Overall, in comparison with the other wineries we visited (Duchman and Bell Springs were both friendly and had tasty wine to boot) - this wasn't any better or worse wine-wise, but the service really turned us off.

My husband and I each tasted 5 different wines and I personally found the reds to be much too dry, but the Pinot Grigio and Sauvignon Blanc were delightful. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable. It makes an interesting little side trip.

We knew this winery was on our way home from Fredericksburg so we decided to stop by. Very pretty driving up to the winery as the vineyards are on your left hand side. Nice little tasting room/gift shop with reasonable prices. They also have some snacks to purchase as well if you want to sit on the porch and enjoy your wine while looking at the vineyards. The person who did our tasting didn't have much of personality (very dry and unwelcoming) but that didn't really ruin anything for us because the wine was delicious. We purchased a few bottles and then opened one to enjoy while we were there. Glad we stopped by!

We went for the wine tasting and to visit on the lovely covered patio.The tasting is $5 for your choice of any five wines on their large list. The pours are rather small but the price is right:) If you buy a bottle of wine you get the tasting free. We bought a bottle to share on the patio after the tasting and even though 100+ outside there was a nice breeze and the ceiling fans were going so very pleasant. The gift shop is small with nice items but the tasting area was a large bar. Would get a bit crowded probably on weekends or when lots of people. There were only six people in there and we had room. The wine list had good description which was good since the lady pouring didn't offer much information on the wines. But we were drinking mixture of whites and reds so may have been hard to talk about them all:) We chose the Syrah to share and it would pair well to with foods. This location is very convenient and easy to find. It is about one mile off of Hwy. 281 just as you get into Johnson City. Good close parking so not far to walk. Nice vineyards along driveway up to tasting room.

This is a true Texas winemaker, using his own and other Texas-grown grapes. This place is out in the country, down a Ranch Road out of Johnson City (not very big in it's own way), and up a small road. They grow their own grapes, including Cabernet, Merlot, Chenin Blanc, Chardonnay, Sangiovese, and many others. Not only are the wines good, but this is a reason I visit the person who makes my wine. I want to know where the fruit comes from, how it is harvested, what do they do to produce the wine, and how is it bottled? You can ask questions here and get great answers, a tour of the vineyard, and a look at the grapes. If you want to know more about the process, get to know the vineyard and the winemaker better, email them or sign up. They take volunteers for harvest (which happens in late July, August, possibly even September), which is not only great exercise, but a good learning experience. Nothing like following it from grape on the vine to wine in the bottle.A lovely place to visit, even in a Texas summer. Sit on the porch, have a glass of wine, and enjoy the views over the vineyard.
