the courthouse is lovely and the square is nice. Walk around the square, play some chess or checkers. Nice restaurant on corner.

If you haven't seen a really unique old courthouse you have not visited Sulphur Springs as that court house is one of the most unusual architecture in the state of Texas. The grounds are manicured and there is a memorial to Veterans. This is one of the nicest downtown settings in all of Texas. We did not go in the court house as we had no business to conduct there. Just drove by and the time spent was well worth the trip.

We visited here by accident, but we stayed on purpose. This courthouse is amazing, but the things that surround it are also special. Much attention is given to our veterans. Great choice of restaurants and some time to just relax.

The Hopkins County Courthouse is a beautiful old building that is definitely the highlight of the square in downtown Sulphur Springs, TX. The grounds around the courthouse are kept up very well with the Hopkins County Veterans Memorial just outside. If you have a chance to go inside the courthouse, you'll find that it still has the look and feel of the late 19th century. According to the Sulphur Springs Visitor Information website, "the courthouse was restored in 2003." http://www.visitsulphurspringstx.org/visitor.asp

Walked right into the courthouse today and were given a tour by the judge's assistant. Lovely lady, full of interesting info she was happy to share. True Southern hospitality!

It seems that there is something going on in the square every weekend. Flea market, bands, water feature for kids. Bathrooms with see-thru walls.

You MUST see the courthouse & square, it's awesome! The lights at night are amazing, and it's beautifully manicured.

I was able to get to the Memorial Wall on the square and see my daddy's name that is engraved on the wall. Access was very easy.

The court house and surrounding area were just beautiful! We did not go in because we did not have enough time, but, very nice

Beautiful courthouse located in the town square. The park is clean and well maintained. In the park is the veteran’s memorial, monuments, water fountains to play in, and large chess sets.

If you enjoy spectacular architecture, you don't want to miss this courthouse. One of the best we've seen, and Texas has many awesome ones. The entire square is beautiful, with the flowers, trees, fountain, memorial, seating areas and lush grass. Definitely worth a walk through.

live in the county and visit the square 4-5 time a week. The courthouse is beautiful and is in use. The square has been updated and is a wonderful place to visit

I have been inside and it is ok for an old courthouse but the outside is outstanding if you are a history buff. It has been refurbished and looks beautiful. If you want to see something outstanding come see this and the beautiful park on the square that has see through bathrooms that are unbelievable. You can see out but no one can see in. There is also a very nice Veterans memorial in the park. It has a water fountain for kids to play in on hot summer days and games in the park to play. It is surrounded by businesses and cafes.

The Hopkins County Courthouse is one of several courthouses in the state designed by J. Riely Gordon, considered by many to be "The Grand Architect of Texas Courthouses." It is an impressive building of Romanesque Revival architectual design. This courthouse is also a National Register Property. The courthouse is located on the town square in the center of town and a spectacular site as one approaches Sulphur Springs. The grounds surrounding the courthouse are beautifully kept and contain a number of statues, flags, memorials, and even several very large sets of chess pieces for visitors to use. Also of interest to visitors will be the outdoor restrooms with what appear to be "mirror walls" that I assume were built to reflect light/heat while keeping the restrooms cool, comfortable, and very private. The courthouse was built in 1894. Still, most, if not all, of it is in excellent shape and appears to be in use. All three floors of the courthouse, including the second-floor courtrooms, are accessible to visitors and well-worth the 20-30 minutes it takes to see the interior of the building. The Hopkins County Courthouse, the entire courthouse square, and downtown Sulphur Springs are only a few minutes north of I-20. For my family and friends, they provided us with an interesting, educational, and relaxing stop during our recent trip through Northeast Texas.
