The people are very knowledgeable about bonsai trees and have a huge variety in the "museum". They also have a variety for sale at a variety of prices.
My parents and I recently visited the Bonsai Exhibit and it was amazing. There was more bonsai on display here than anything we've ever seen and the hundreds of exhibits and the professional and intelligent demeanor of the owner was refreshing. We highly suggest visiting this exhibit if you are at all interested in horticulture, bonsai, or simply learning something new. If you're looking to buy a bonsai the prices seemed very reasonable but it is also nice to simply look at the amazing individual bonsai.
Hundreds of exhibits to see and the owner was nice enough to explain the art of the Bonsai. Many Bonsai specs amen for sale.
More bonsai on display here than I have seen in some more famous gardens. No pressure to buy; OK to just look.
Sadly, I would not recommend this place to anyone. Prices are terribly high, owners are very argumentative. They do have a very nice selection but they act as if these trees are their children and go Into dissertations with you about talking to them and facing them when you talk to them from a certain facing side, it gets ridiculous. I just wanted a tree, not a speech.
Loved it the first time we visited in 2011. We returned to show it to out of town guests and the place wasn't the same. The trees did not seem to be faring well, but the folks who run it are pleasant. Perhaps the drought affected them.
I agree that this is not a place suited for young children because I have a young one myself and he was not too interested however, I do have a teenager and he asked questions and eventually bought a bonsai tree which was better than a snake which he wanted. The owners were nice and friendly. Overall, we had a great experience.
This picture was probably the best one they had on display and the lady there misinfomed us on how bonsais are grown and harvested...I checked when I got home. We had intended on purchasing but after seeing and hearing we opted out.
We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Jade Gardens. The owners were extremely nice and helpful and had a large number of different varieties of trees. We bought two flowering trees and were very happy with them.
This place is amazing ! They have all kinds of Bonsai from very affordable to super expensive ! But absolutely beautiful the amazing talent that the 2 owners have with Bonsai plants.
If you take kids with you, it might not be as much fun. Our group had parents and their and kids. The kids were very well behaved, as we prewarned them how to behave. Nevertheless, the owner followed around the entire time, giving us a pre-emptive dirty look. It wasn't until we were leaving and had to exit through the gift shop that she was friendly and upbeat. I wasn't in a buying mood after that treatment, for sure. Perhaps adults would have a better experience. I realize it represents many years of work so she'd be understandably protective, but the kids truly kept their hands to themselves, weren't loud, and did not horse around while in there.
We stopped at the Jade Gardens on a day trip to Wimberley. The owner was friendly and very knowledgeable. He had an amazing variety of bonsai plants...also bonsai pots, books, soil, etc. The place is rather rough..not sure it is wheelchair accessible. He also had some beautiful handcrafted copper jewelry with natural stones made by his daughter. A "must see" place in Wimberley!
Owner was rude and acted like we were a bother. Don't bother.
