I won't be able to include EVERYTHING I love about this place. First of all the management and staff are warm and helpful in answering your questions! I wish everyone could see it when there is a special day. QUILTERS, LOOMERS, kids, etc. My husband and I love it so much we were actually married in the Cherokee Indian Church on the grounds! At times there is live music, etc. An excellent genealogy research space off the main entrance. Great and interesting things to see and do (and buy), especially for the kids! an Old train station; blacksmith shop; an old hearse! it goes on and on!! worth the drive and then take the family to the Pickett House on the grounds!

The history here is hands on and real. If you are from the East Texas area or any rural part of the country you can really appreciate the past represented at this museum.

Lots to see and my children and I enjoyed it. I don't recommend bringing a stroller in because you'll have a hard time viewing things. But we still really enjoyed it. I've brought my kids twice and I'm certain we will go again in a few years.

The part of the Museum I was most interested in was the Whitmeyer Library, and I was not disappointed. The resources the Library has available for genealogical research is amazing, you feel like you are in a major cities library. And the librarian in charge - Carol, can't do enough for you. I had contacted her in advance of my trip, and she was kind enough to have material pulled on my family. I also met a couple of volunteers while there, and they were most helpful as well. A very pleasant experience. I wish I would have taken advantage of the Village tour, but will do that next time. We did take the short Big Thicket trail hike, and that was very pleasant. And the next best building in the Village is the Picket House for fried chicken!!! OMG

Cheap enough at $4. The buildings were nice. Wish there were demos. The gift shop was like someone's yard sale.

I was surprised to find such a place in this out of the way location. It's a restored village with lots of artifacts and memorabilia. The self-guided walking tour is nice and you can get a guide if you want. It looks like there are demonstrations and music in the summer, though none while we were there.Overall, worth the price of admission. And the restaurant on the property is worth a stop, particularly if you are very hungry!

nestled in the woods off 190 is the village and museum we were there for teh civil war reinactment, it was good, but small and one really couldnt get a view of what was happening until one ventured out into the woods, the desplays and trains were excellent id go back.

First of all the price was right! $4.00 for adults. The staff was very friendly and welcomed us promptly. The gift shop was an adventure in itself. Then on to the museum. The old post office building, the jail, the doctor's office, the old church complete with pews and hymnals, the newpaper office with antique type machines and printing presses and much more. It was as if we went back in time. There was a building with old carriages and even an old milk delivery wagon. Everything was set up like a small town with actual old buildings. And yes there was a railroad station complete with old trunks ready to be placed on a train. What a nice and fun place!

Loved the museum walk-through almost as much as eating at The Picket House Restaurant. Awesome food and ambience!
