This park would probably have been more impressive in the spring or summer, when the vegetation is in bloom. There is a butterfly area that attracts a wide variety of butterflies when the flowers and shrubs are in bloom. The trail meanders through the woods and follows a creek. You walk downhill in the beginning and uphill at the end. The terrain is a bit rocky on the lower part of the trail, above a creek.
Park was neat and clean. A river runs through it and there were many spots to picnic along the river. Park has tennis courts, swimming pool, and other facilities. Very nice place to relax when in the area, but weather was too cold and icy for us to enjoy. Just drove through.
It was great to find this park and that it was still manned late in the evening. We stayed in a pleasant spot. The showers were heated and clean. The other facilities would have been great to use in the summer months. There was a lovely small butterfly and bee garden in one corner of the campsite. I can imagine it was colourful in the early to late summer months. The next day we went on the trail walk and were so surprised to see the amount of bird feeders in a small wooded area. We could watch the birds in a small hide. We had such a great time there seeing so many different species of birds. The nature trail was fun and interesting. A lot of the trees are labelled so you know their names. We would love to see this park in the Spring or Summer. I am amazed at the comment that 'there was not much else to do'.
Have stayed here many times in the past and a nice park. Even better this time as they have gotten rid of Tengonet wi-fi which was terrible, now free wi-fi and worked good, but park wasnt full of snowbirds yet. Good cable t.v. If needed.
We spent some time here on a rainy afternoon. Drove out to the golf course, took some pictures of geese then took the 15 minute nature walk.If we lived here we would take advantage of the golf course and all the facilities.
We visited but were mildly disappointed at the smallness of this park. OK for a picnic but not much else to do.
A few years ago we had visited the LB Johnson Wildflower Center and thought it interesting but hot and just average. If you too have had that experience GO BACK!! They have recently done a terrific job of making it a first class garden experience. The trails are well marked and there are several. They have also made friendly raised beds with plants marked and displayed. There is a great water feature that kids would love--dinosaur footprints along a little stream with caves and a waterfall you can walk behind. Be sure to take the trail that leads to all the swings for big folks as well as littles! We loved it--you can even take a turn on outdoor exercise equipment--elipticals and bikes and more!
We host our family reunions here every year! I love how clean and pretty the park is and how well it is maintained!!
Worth a short drive if you love birds. About ten minutes from main street, and a fifteen minute loop trail. Lots of birds to see, the butterflies did not seem to be where they were to have been.
The park has a large covered pavilion for group picnics. It is a pretty location to explore. The campground looks pleasant, but we didn't stay there.
The campground is well maintained, very quiet and peaceful and just a short drive into town. The park is lovely with lots of amenities.
My wife and I visited Lady Bird Johnson Municipal Park for a hike during our stay in Fredericksburg. The hiking trails aren't very long (less than 1 mile) but they have good views, wildlife and great natural habitat. If you want to take a beautiful morning hike, visit Lady Bird Johnson Municipal Park.
This park was great for tent camping. There were plenty of trees and we were able to place our tent under a large tree that kept it shaded. We were allowed to pull the car right up to the tent which was nice. The bathrooms were well kept and clean as far as park bathrooms go. The shower water was warm the entire time. Also it was quiet and didn't cost us a lot to camp. It's not far out of town so you have easy access to the square. If we return to Fredericksburg we will camp here again.
The pool has been redesigned and at $2 per person it is more than worth it! Just pay attention to the open times as we were 1/2 early and had to wait.
Something for everyone here. The RV spots are nestled in a pecan orchard and the amenities are great for the price. Cable, Internet, water, sewer, and electric. We have been coming here for 20+ years. Swimming pool, 18 hole PGA rated golf, sand volleyball, baseball fields, 10 acre fishing lake, hike and bike, great facilities for shower and rest room, and numerous play grounds. We had no problem sending our kids off on their bikes to explore and play as the traffic is slow and minimal and they can't leave the park. A short drive from breweries, numerous wineries, antiques, fine and casual dining and more shopping then you can handle.
