Lady was some what preoccupied and not really lessoning to the fact that we are on bikes. All info is in the language of car or RV. However the maps and info are free.

We were caught by surprise with the amazing little town! VERY wide streets with 125 year buildings on both sides - someone was planning ahead. We are now planning a full day visit in the Fall. Note there are two Octoberfests that month!

They have information on everything in the vicinity and are very helpful. Lots of maps and brochures. Located across the street from the museum of the War of the Pacific.

Don't be fooled into believing this is a "German" town. It is a Texas town with lots of tourist souvenir shops few with "German" things. Leavenworth near Seattle is the real thing not this town!

Fredericksburg is just another small town jewel in a vast Texas. A beautiful drive. Vineyards galore. Main Street is wonderful shopping and sipping. Try the peach wine, Wow! I was told people buy it by the case and spike their tea. Tea or not, this stuff is good! Took a quick 15 minute drive to Luckenbach, TX just for the heck of it. Would love to see that on a Friday or Saturday night. This is a good weekend trip.

Once upon a time, Fredericksburg was a charming little hamlet, with beat up little motels and few b&b's. You could stroll to the historic sites and stumble onto a shabby looking restaurant where the German food was homemade and the beer was freezing. The local peaches were allowed to ripen on the tree to near perfection. That restaraunt is gone now, it got bulldozed to make room for a big chain hotel. The peaches are, when found, rock hard from early harvesting. Shop after shop have crammed themselves into every available niche. Restaurants are churning out bland food as fast as the tourists can line up for it. The charming hamlet has become a...mega-mall. The historic sites, Nimitz museum, and Enchanted Rock are well worth seeing, as is the beautiful scenery of the hill country area, but don't make a special trip to Fredericksburg, unless your ideal vacation is to go shopping for overpriced kitsch and jack-a-lope tshirts, or stand in line to pay top $ for weak beer and bar food. Historic pride, sincerity, community, have given way to Disneyland.

beautiful city, have traveled in the summer, really hot weather. but you can refresh yourself with a glass of wine Peach, we were told that the city is known for its peaches, there are many souvenir shops in some specialized areas of the house: kitchen, bathrooms, dining room, my favorite is the Garden. also various restaurants, some of the places with the flag of Germany in my case it was a good option to know a little more about the German culture. I consider it important to know more than the shops on the main street, we did not have time to visit more places outside this street, but surely there was much more to explore and discover this beautiful city.

We went to some of the "not so highly advertised" places around Fredricksburg and would like to share them with you.First of all was the Cemetary, established in 1846. The names and dates on the tombstones tell the colony's history. The white-tail deer which roam among those tombstones add a touch of interest as they just quietly move out of your way.Second is the Gaol (spelled "jail" today). A structure dating from about 1859 gives an idea of how justice was administered in days of yore. The gaolers lived in the gaol; cells were not cooled or even provided much air; provisions were made only for male prisoners, etc.The third thing(s) is/are the numerous family fruit stands along the highways. We bought a large container of peaches, one of plums and not nearly enough of blackberries. Don't miss the taste and experience and the talks with the owners and owners kids working there. They might have been university students in regular session, but they were expected to work the family fruit and vegetable stand in the summer!Don't miss the replicas of original settlers' homes and out-buildings; and above all, don't miss the unique colors of the plentiful crepe myrtle shrubbery and trees all over the area. They have colors there that are more vivid and varied than I have seen anywhere in Texas.

Mom & Daughter were very happy, Dad and credit were under a lot of stress! Seriously a quaint old town that has figured out how to establish themselves as a great attraction using the history of their home town pride in Admiral Nimitz and the long history of their community. The shopping, food and people watching are all worth spending at least a day in Fredericksburg.

Fredericksburg is a great place to walk and enjoy the shops and restaurants. The city is so much fun and the shops and quaint and inviting.

Really enjoyed the different shops and Old Town feel of Fredericksburg, really nice day visit.lots of good food, B & B's and restaurants.

The Bavarian Inn we celebrated my birthday and it is also a B&B, Great service & authentic food & beverages. Loved the local artists' gallery downtown plus the Magic Shop and all the other colorful creative shops on Main StreetCutest little ice cream shop also that has over 60 flavors of homemade ice cream.

what a surprise, sweet German town, with great food [weinner schnitzel] so good. the shops in town are really unique. this town is not far from the L>B>J> ranch which was good too. really enjoyed the day trip.

Just thought you'd all like to know about a couple of little places off of the beaten path in Fredricksburg. We truly enjoyed seeking them out and enjoying them.First for anyone who's craftsy or enjoys art, there is a place called Sandy Jenkins studios that contains a zillion needlepoint and quilt pieces of art (a ladies heaven.) Then from there we found and highly recommend the Milagro restaurant which is located off of a little courtyard (also lovely for dining in good weather) near the main street in Fredricksburg. We casually walked and enjoyed the vast variety of shops and darted into any and all that caught our fancy. There is something for everyone to enjoy just walking down the streets in Fredricksburg.

Quaint little town! Lots of German restaurants and bars. Main Street has a lot of little shops to discover. There is also a couple of interesting museums. It's along the river o it's very scenic.
