It is a nice little zoo with some indigenous animals. It's also the oldest zoo in the south west. You'd be a fool to compare it to the san diego zoo or expect a similar experience. It is by far not a must visit attraction for travelers passing through, but living here, it's a neat place to pass some time.

The Alameda Park Zoo in Alamogordo is well worth visiting if you are looking for a calm enjoyable afternoon. They are in the process of updating many attractions and getting away from the stark look so many small zoos have. The animals seem well attended to and their cages clean and well supplied. There are several animals which are indigenous to the Southwest which you are likely not to find in even larger zoos. You may pack a lunch and enjoy the picnic areas surrounding the attractions.

Wide variety of exhibits, picnic area available at no extra charge, VERY WELL maintained grounds, lots of shade trees, easily found at a major street intersection, adjacent to a LARGE open area for picnics outside the zoo, a fun miniature train ride. All in all, a GREAT relaxing, interesting, enjoyable experience ! !

I love going here and watching the animals. It is very cheap and gives you plenty of space to walk and relax. Great place to visit if you are in town.

We got in early, but the place was open and you just leave cash in the pay box. I must say for being an oldest zoo, the displays are nicely done for both animals and the viewer. Almost every animal came out to beg for food - so funny! The variety of animals is not like big city ones, but still they have some exotic species, along with local representatives. I absolutely loved the pair of black swans from Australia.

The zoo is very small, which would be nice for small children. Great exhibits, and it appears the animals are well cared for and loved. The park is really nice, too! We enjoyed our visit!

This is the oldest zoo in the southwest and covers only about 12 acres which is a plus for small children and folks with walkers. The variety of animals and exhibits far exceeded my expectations. There is a really nice playground for children. We ended our visit by feeding the nene geese, ducks and pigeons. The gift shop is run by a volunteer who was sweet as apple pie. I was able to buy 3 monkey for a grand child who is monkey crazy and my dau bought a monkey puppet, key chain and drinking cup. None of these items were terribly expensive. We felt like the low admission price and friendly gift shop make this a family friendly activity which can be enjoyed by all ages.

Not bad for the price. Staff is very friendly; snack and drinks available. Zoo is not big at all, but it's a nice size for an afternoon trip if you have other things planned. It'll take you about 30-45 minutes to see everything.I recommend this for small children or if you just want something to do for a small amount of time while planning other things to do in the area.Maybe combine this trip with one to the Space Museum near by.

My teen daughter really liked this zoo. Some really interesting animals to be found including lemurs and large cats. She especially liked feeding the pigeons that will feed from your hands. Worth more than the $2.50 entrance fee.

I lived in Alamogordo I never really had high expectations because being from a much larger city we had a gigantic zoo. I decided to give it a try because hey, it's only $2.50 a person so how can you really beat that? I was very pleasantly surprised! It's small, but it actually is bigger than it looks from the outside. Although I'm used to many different types of animals being at zoos, there was quite a good variety. The only downside is that a lot of them were nocturnal so some couldn't be seen. It even has a little picnic and park area. Little kids would have a blast! Overall it's definitely worth dropping by for a cheap weekend activity.

I stopped by for an hour. The zoo is small, but still has a decent variety of animals. They have bred the endangered Mexican Wolf here. Some of the animals were not visible, but I still saw quite a few. You can't really complain about the price ($2.50 for an adult). Not much in the gift shop.

This zoo is on the smaller side, but it is beautiful. Open air exhibits and lots of park space make this an ideal location to take active little ones.

Not a bad little zoo, great for little kids. Has a playground where you can picnic and let kids play, good little variety of animals and pretty cheap.

Most of the animals were sleeping, or where you could not see them. The cages the animals are in do leave something to be desired. The woman working in the gift shop was friendly and very helpful. I took my young niece and nephew and they however loved it. The playground and somewhere to have lunch are great when you have young children. I will give this place another shot perhaps when the weather is nicer.

Small but very fun. Has a great picnic area and playground to go along with visiting the animals. Loved it!
