Luna Rossa is not to be missed if you are traveling SW New Mexico on I-10. Sylvia and Paolo are charming hosts and excellent vintners. Some evenings there is wood fired pizza. The tastings are free, and the wine is excellent, especially the reds. Don't miss the Nini. There are also occasional free concerts. The building is lovely and contains charming wine-related gifts, also.
A little hard to fine on the access road west of town, but good wines and nice people. They also have a restaurant in Las Cruces and you can get a discount coupon for the restaurant if your going that way and ask.
Found it! Great wines this one no food at this one that's las cruses. Good selection of all local wines. Vineyard on location.
We toured the winery with a group and had a guide to the wine processing area. A very informative visit. The tasting room is beautiful and full of fun things to with wine. They offered food with some of the wines but that may not be available on a drop in visit.
The owner is fourth generation Italian wine maker from Northern Italy who fell in love, married a local and now makes southern NM's best red wines! All his wines are great but his reds are fantastic. The tasting room is relaxed and a pleadure to be in. Unless you like sweet wines avoid the other winery in Deming.
First time - and definitely will come back-I did not have room for the beautiful looking gelato. We tried the antipasto and the pizza. Pizza with artichokes and prosciutto, with thin, delicate crust. We are local, sorry it took us so long to try Luna Rosa. Although we did not try the lasagna this trip, it looked like a picture out of Gourmet and a very healthy serving-to look forward to.
Paolo d’Andrea is a charming and hospitable winemaker from the Italian region of Friuli-Venezia-Giulia where he learned his craft. We had a wonderful time sampling and buying his excellent wine and talking with him. His wife Sylvia, a native Southwesterner, has opened a marvelous pizzeria in Las Cruces, also called Luna Rossa, which we would also recommend.
The owner Paola is a fourth generation wine maker from Italy who fell in love with a local girl and created New Mexicp's best winery. The Nini is superb. You can't beat his Shiraz for value or flavor. The Tempranio is done more Italian style than Spanish or South American but is extremely good. Then there is his limited Reserve Barbera- when of the best I've ever tried. The only thing better is his Reserve Nebbiolo stands up to $150/bottle Barolos from Italy. They have a nice tasting room with a helpful and friendly staff. Definitely worth a wine lovers' time and effort to get get to.
This is what it is all about. A true winery that processes only its own grapes... and gold medal after gold medal after gold medal and we are talking International golds! Beautiful tasting room and gift shop. Shouldn't be missed!! And, they will ship to you as well!
Delicious food, good wine, authentic Italian ingredients. Great place for lunch or dinner. Very welcoming atmosphere.
We love to sample local wines when traveling. We had Luna Rossa on our destination list during a drive through New Mexico because it was intriguing that this Italian born winemaker was bottling many Italian varietals, along with others, from all New Mexico grown grapes including many grown right there on his own 32 acre vineyard. Our only disappointment of the visit is that the winemaker, Paolo d'Andrea who with his wife Sylvia owns the winery they founded in 2001 was away visiting his home and we didn't get to meet him. But the young man, Sam, holding down the fort in the tasting room did a great job of introducing us to Luna Rossa's wine.Wine tasting here is free, with small free pours of anything bottled. We left with six wines, including Dolcetto, Nini (a blend of several Italian varietals), Shiraz, Conquistador (their port), a white blend called Symphony and Chenin Blanc. It's fun to know something about the winemakers and we learned Paolo grew up in the Friuli region of Italy in a family with multi generation experience in winemaking and he has a degree in viticulture from an Italian college. His adventure in the US began in the mid 1980's when he was working for a big winemaking company in New Mexico to instruct the vineyard workers on pruning technique. Loving the area, he and his wife Sylvia began to lay the groundwork for what would become Luna Rossa in 2001.The love Paolo and Sylvia have for their work and pride in their product comes through in the bottle and in the wine tasting facility too. We recommend a visit to Luna Rossa. ACCESSIBILITY PS - for wine tasters who roll, worth noting that the winery has accessible parking in front, is level in and throughout, has accessible bathrooms - the only hitch in the giddeyup is lack of accessible height seating at the tasting bar. GOOD FOOD PS - As side note, Sam also told us that Luna Rossa has a restaurant serving delicious food in nearby Las Cruces. We didn't know that in advance of this trip or we would have selected that as a dining location on an overnight in Las Cruces a couple of weeks prior. Passing that tidbit along so other travelers don't miss it.
Coming from Texas and from visiting many wineries in Napa Valley I was expecting to pay for a tasting, but ....to my surprise there was no tasting fee.The wines are very good too. I bought a few bottles of the Shiraz. They are reasonably priced and can ship to a few states. Don't expect ultra high quality, but for the pirce it's tough to beat. I'll stop again if in the area.
The wine was fantastic! I really feel like this Italian hasnt been discovered yet in NM!
After our third visit to Luna Rossa Winery we decided it was a pity it has not been mentioned on TripAdvisor and we are honored to be the first delighted reviewers.Paolo and Sylvia, the owners, are the most hospitable hosts. Paolo, a true Italian 100% original viticulturist and winemaker is a walking encyclopedia on anything that has to do with grapes and wine. He introduced many Italian grapes to the Southwest and his vast variety and high quality of wines exceeded our expectations. We are wine enthusiasts and we have traveled Europe and United States. In our effort to always try to experience local wines our discovery of Luna Rossa Winery seemed like we struck gold. The prove might be the gold, silver and bronze numerous International award winning medals from various wine competitions. The Luna Rossa Winery is very conveniently located just South of International HWY I-10 - exit 81 in Deming, New Mexico. It is well worth your stop!Enjoy the wines.Cheers!
