Very expansive gift shop with minerals and other knick knacks. The gift shop appeared to be carved out of the side of the mountain. This was also where we paid to visit the Ruidoso River Museum that was associated on the property.
Not much for the kids. It has a nice gift shop and some areas to take pictures, but other than that if your kids are under 12, they will be bored.Sorry.
Fox Cave is such a fun stop for the whole family! It truly is a cave that's a gift shop. Huge variety of rocks, gifts, everything! Outside are some very unique photo ops! Worth the stop for sure! No admission for the Fox Cave shop and grounds. (Museum, I believe, does have admission price, they were closed the day we were there....)
Fox Cave was a fun place to stop. It contains a large gift shop and also offers some simulated mining. It looked like they were building a museum there as well. The simulated mining was really just bags of dirt that you buy. You can choose between 2 sizes, we chose the small size. Someone will get a bag and a sifter for you. You dump the contents of the bag out and sift the dirt. Then you rinse the gems and rocks off in water while someone tells you what it is. The bags of dirt are made on site where they include a variety of rocks for you to discover. My 7 year old son really enjoyed it and we will stop by again if ever in the area.
Besides being a really nifty, quirky place, the staff are fun and easy going and will help you find just the right rock or souvenier in their gift shop. If you are in the area - worth the stop.
