Amaro has some very tasty wines that are reasonably priced. They have a good sized patio and small, but lively interior with live music on Friday nights. The wine tastings, however, are very disappointing. They were out of several of the wines, and did not offer replacements. All but 3 of the wines were extremely sweet. The server did not describe the flavors in the wine, instead she told odd anecdotes that were mildly related to wine. The food offerings were not up to par with other wineries. The veggie and hummus platter came with a store-packaged container of hummus, pretzel chips (not the pita chips listed on the menu), baby carrots and a small bulk-purchased generic chocolate bar. If there is a food truck outside go with them instead.

I was traveling across country and visiting wineries in NM and happened to find Amaro Winery after trying some of the other wineries in Las Cruces. I found that Amaro had the most comfortable environment. The service was stellar but more than anything I appreciated the ambiance, the music outside on the patio was lovely and the weather was perfect! I would highly recommend this establishment!

Amaro is fun, if it is a Friday night. On Fridays, they have live music on the patio, or inside if the weather is harsh. The wines are interesting and good. The wine servers are excellent people and they care about the customers. Saturdays, no live music. For food, they usually have a food truck with better than average choices of hot sandwiches, tacos, or other savory bar food, Fridays. They have local art on the walls and often have cheese tastings. We go there often and will look for you.

I spent two days tasting wine along Highway 28 between El Paso and Las Cruces, saving Amaro for last. It was the best of the tastings in all respects.The tasting room is an airy, casual space with seat-yourself tables and the wine bottles around the perimeter of the room. I liked that you could study them, pick up a bottle and read the label (so many wineries keep them behind the counter where you can't touch them - I guess they're afraid you will break or steal one?).The tasting was an amazing bargain - $7 to taste the entire roster of twelve wines, with generous pours. The guide was very knowledgeable and personable. There were a few limited food options that came pre-packaged, as the winery does not have a food license.If you are even remotely interested in wine and are in or near Las Cruces, you should definitely make a stop here.

The good news is that it didn't take an outlay of thousands to get there and buy tastings. People do not realize that there are very fine award winning wineries in New Mexico and that wine making has been around here for a couple hundred years. I have been to wineries in 18 different countries and tasted wines from farm house Mom and Pops to the famous wineries of France, Germany, Italy,Spain, Australia, etc.and have found that sometimes the value of a wine is determined by the lobbying and marketing campaigns. This is a small winery, with a very experienced German Oenologist ( winemaker). the tasting room is in an old lumber yard building, well done,and they have entertainment on weekends. There were several of us there for a tasting and like opinions each had their likes,dislikes and favorites according to their palate. I thought they did a good job on the Cab, the Tempranillo, and the Montepulciano d' Abruzzo. Others thought the Amour (sweet red) and the Gewurztraminer were good. the best news is that you get a nice wine and still have $ in your pocket.
