We stopped in the Visitor Center on our way to Lincoln, NM and were delighted to find the NICEST lady behind the desk that did her job to the utmost! She took great pride in helping us experience the area to the fullest. She gave us great advice and turned us on to a wonderful, scenic drive and lovely mountaintop dinner we would have surely missed out on without her recommendation. I'm sorry I failed to get her name but she deserves gold stars!!
Stop by the visitor center to get an idea of what activities are available. They have a map orientation as well as a decent history of the events behind Billy the Kid and Lincoln, NM. They have several brochures as well as recommendations for how to spend your time. They also have restrooms, which are clean.
First time to this area. Alone, but friendly and helpful information from desk. Clean and was family friendly even though I was solo. Grabbed a few brochures to keep as souvenirs along with a couple of small items. Very interesting place to experience.
We have been to Ruidoso probably a hundred times and never stopped in here before. We have taken up Geocaching recently and were brought to this location in search of one. It is a small well organized visitors center. There are plenty of maps and regional information making it worth the stop.
Very kid friendly although tiny. Beautiful mosaics on the building's exterior. A nice stress free stop to let kids interact with the displays. Clean well maintained bathroom and very helpful desk worker. They had little things like vintage photograph postcards (of outlaws and pioneer families) for sale and lots of brochures and maps of the area for free. We walked across the way and enjoyed the horse sculptures as well. Along with that, the visitor's center was a very enjoyable little walk.
We just happened upon this place (a Geocache in the back) and it was a perfect FREE place to stop with the kids. There are interesting displays inside that tell of the area and of Billy the kid, Smokey Bear, etc. Nice clean bathrooms, a couple 'face in the hole' photo ops, and an all around good place to get out of the car. The horse sculpture park next to it is also interesting and worth seeing. We are not from this area so it was all good information.
The lady was very nice and informative a must stop there arethings for the children to do while you are checking out the attractions.
Is this place huge? No. It's small. As a New Mexican, I already knew everything that's on display when it came to the pictures and information and everything but for someone who isn't familiar, it's a pretty cool stop. We stopped on our honey moon and the lady that was at the desk was extremely friendly. We ended up talking to her for about twenty minutes before we got on our way. This place isn't only about Billy the Kid but has parts of other New Mexican history. They also have a section where local art is displayed. Some is for sale. The cool part was that it wasn't only adult art, it was children's art. Nice stop.
Good photo exhibit of area landmarks, photo ops with Billy the Kid, aliens, and Smokey Bear will please various ages --
Neat lil cowboy place to stop and stretch your legs. Tells of billy and the gang.
