Mount Mitchill Scenic Overlook is 266 feet elevation. It is in the Atlantic Highlands and the highest natural elevation on the Atlantic Ocean coast mainland, from Maine to the Yucatan (in Mexico). The views include the Raritan Bay, New York City, Sandy Hook. Mount Mitchill Scenic Overlook is only 1.4 miles and 4 minutes from the Navesink Twin Lights. Thus, visiting both parks in one day is ideal. The Mount Mithcill Scenic Overlook includes Monmouth County's 9/11 Memorial, 12 acres of open space, and walk ways. **Views, Nature, 911 Memorial, FREE, ....BRING Your Camera........**The Mount was named after Samuel Latham Mitchill who determined the height of the hill. **Best Views in Monmouth County NJ.**Mount Mitchill Scenic Overlook**Navesink Twin Lights. **ideal time of year to visit both parks, May-September, warm ocean breeze, and the Sun!!!
Site of Monmouth County 9-11 Memorial. Hallowed ground. Great views of New York City, Sandy Hook, and the approaches to New York Harbor.
Glad I stopped at the overlook on a whim, I hadn't planned on it. The view was perfect this morning with the clear sky and sun. The overlook also offers some history about the harbor and the land. A great place to enjoy a cup of morning coffee and just take in the view.
Went for a Sunday drive and decided to visit this amazing vantage point. You can see all of the Manhattan and Brooklyn skyline. Not too many restaurants downtown so we headed over to Red Bank which has a ton of options.
The wife and I were taking a road trip up the New Jersey Coast, Asbury Park to Atlantic Highlands. As we were finishing up the drive and ready to head back home, I saw the sign for the Mount Mitchill Scenic Overlook...wow I am glad I didn't overlook this overlook. Scenic overviews of the Sandy Hook Shoreline and distance views of the NYC Skyline with a 9-11 Memorial. Highly recommended.
This is an outstanding attraction, especially the 9-11 Memorial. The memorial with the eagle and names of those lost from the county is impressive but the most impressive to me was the timeline walk leading up to the statue. Well worth seeing -- and the overall view from which you can see New York's skyline is pretty impressive too.
I was in the area visiting the Twin Lights Historic Site and found this attraction nearby. I figure it was only a few minutes away so I decided to give it a go. The landscaping was beautiful. Excellent views from way high up. The 9/11 memorial is beautiful though. I spent about 10-15 minutes there and thats about it. Don't make this a destination, I would recommend it only if you are in the area.
My family stopped here during a day trip along the Jersey Shore. The park is beautifully maintained and included a very nice tribute to those who lost their lives on 9/11. The views from the overlook are incredible! It is worth the visit.
I am delighted by the view from this scenic overlook, the highest point on the eastern coast! All of NYC is easily seen. A clear day makes the view much more spectacular! There is also a 9/11 memorial honors those who lost their lives on that tragic day. This is definitely a must see!
They say it's the highest spot on the Atlantic coast between Maine and the Yucatan, but don't expect Kilimanjaro: the "summit" is only two hundred and some feet high. Great views of New York, though, and a pleasant little park.
For its size, this park delivers quite an impact. Aside from the stunning views and landscape, the 9/11 memorial is staggeringly impressive. A timeline embedded in the sidewalk leads to a stone monument inscribed with the names of those Monmouth Co citizens lost on that fateful day. You will not need much time to tour this scenic spot, but the time you do spend will be worth it.
A beautiful scenic lookout on the top of New Jersey. Come here to feel and experience the history that has been seen from this historic place. The 911 Memorial is not to be missed, nor is the view.
This is a nice little hidden gem in Jersey. Not only a beautiful 911 memorial, but on a clear day a great view of nyc. definitely worth checking out
Nice scenic lookout with lots of good information available about area. Be sure to read up on the monument to the NJ men and women who's lives were lost in 9/11 event. A lot of thought and detail were put in to it that could be easily overlooked if you don't know what to look for.
Love this look out as it gives perspective of where you are and how close you are to NYC! Very clean and well maintained. No other people there when we were there. Binoculars are great and in good working shape!
