Great local, artisanal cheese designed for the foody or the family farm tourist. This is the new gem of the Valley. Cheese is used by chefs in New York City and elsewhere. If you want a taste of what a semi rural community can do - this is it.
For Father's Day my wife gave me the 1-day cheese making class at the Valley Shepherd Creamery. We drove 1 1/2 hours to arrive there at 10 AM. At 10:20 someone finally showed up and told us, and another couple, that the class was cancelled. They said someone would contact us on Monday, but they were sorry. That was 4 weeks ago! I have tried to leave messages about my refund and the answering machine at the farm is full. I have sent 3 emails and all have come back undeliverable. I got through to a manager at the Reading terminal store over a week ago and she said someone would call, they haven't. I believe there are financial problems and the owners are not interested in refunding my money. This was to be a fun gift and instead this has turned into a $155 problem. If a business can't function in a fair and professional manner, then they should stop functioning. To treat people like this and commit financial improprieties is just wrong.
The cheeses are simply suberb! This is definitely a place to stop in and to buy some truly excellent ones! It is nice to see that such places locally exist!
Came with extended family...was nice. They showed the cheese making process as a movie and then they took us to see the rooms where its done. There was no real cheese making to see and that kind of disappointed me. They run tours on Saturday and Sunday only and maybe because we went on Sunday there was nothing to actually see. They do however have samples to taste and that was nice. The kids enjoyed seeing the sheep and we walked around the gift shop, purchased something, then we were off on a 'hay ride' around the farm! the ride was actually taking us too see the aging caves...(it smells a little around there). It was a nice relaxing tour...
We regularly stop by for the wonderful cheeses. There also is a small shop that sells other items. The cheese class is on our list of things to do.
We visited the creamery in June for the lambing tour. We arrived early, so we spent time outside enjoying the beautiful scenery. We also spent time in the store looking at their signature food and gift items. The store was very clean and everything was displayed very well. The lambing tour was informative and fun. We sampled a variety of cheeses and saw lots of baby lambs and goats, too. We had a great time. We will be back in the fall to do the harvest tour.
they make wonderful cheese here - a little bit pricey - but well worth it for some special cheese. specialty is sheeps milk cheese (their sheeps milk style brie is wonderful). they also have goat and cow's milk cheese as well. They sell to some of NYC top restaurants.
Great place not only to see some farm animals and pet them along the fence. There are classes and tours available on farming and cheese Making ( fees for the classes ). they have incredible cheese and products from local farms. The only downsize its pricey to buy products, but your getting handcraftd products and you always pay higher price for that quality and small turnaround. if you love farms animals ( its a sheep farm ) and the country setting you will love this place its worth the trip.
The web site said it was open from thu to sun. It also said they did "daily" tours, which means they do these tours everyday, we thought. Came here on a tue, and all was closed! Website should state tours are conducted between thu through sunday too. We came all the way from staten island! We will try to come back some other time...
Wonderful fresh cheeses. Not open everyday to the public, so check their times. Great place to bring your kids.
