fisherman's cove conservation area

This a privilege not a right! Pick up after yourself and your pet!!! My pup loves coming here! She is child so she comes with me everywhere. She loves swimming and catching her ball. I want to continue to have the freedom to bring here to this beach. I can go anytime till dusk with her and I love that. It's not glitzy or glamorous just a simple place to sit out and enjoy the summer. Another note- don't let your dog drink the salt water it is a diarrhetic to their systems and or they will get sick. Bring water for them bc there isn't any there. And if you know your dog can be aggressive and go after dogs don't let them off leash. My only problem is that bc of the drudging going on it creates massive seaweed on the shore and its gross! So I hope they keep it cleaned up this year.

This is really a conservation area that was preserved from development by a committee of Manasquan residents back in the late 80's/early 90's. It has a large "wild" back area of saw grass where birds might be nesting and but the main attraction is the beach. The beach, which is on the Manasquan Inlet leading to one of the Manasquan River tributaries has become a popular destination for locals and others to bring their dogs to swim. It is not really a place to sit and read or sunbathe, although if you walk far enough, the beach curves away from the inlet and it is quieter. The beach is open to fishermen as well and very early in the day or around sunset, you may have to compete with fishermen for a spot.The area is run by Monmouth County so it is patrolled by a County Parks official. Dogs are supposed to be on a leash, but that rule is enforced only by the officers patrolling, and most dogs are "off leash". Most owners do pick up after their pets but I have noticed in recent years, as the place becomes less "local", that there is more waste around, particularly on the grassy area leading out to the street. Ironically that is the area where one can find bags and more refuse cans. Most owners watch their dogs carefully when they are not on the leash. This is NOT a beach where your dog can or should run wild without supervision. Of course, that being said, there are always those who spoil it for others by not picking up waste or by letting their dogs run wild. In my opinion, it used to be a great dog beach but, as it became more well known, many dog owners did not supervise their pets and it is no longer the doggie haven that it used to be. is not as nice as it was a few years back. The shore and shallow waters can have lots of seaweed, shells and other refuse so be careful where you walk. There has been an effort to keep the inlet waters clean, but after a storm there may be a lot of run-off and the water may not be safe.Parking on the street is free but, particularly in July and August, free spots are few and far between. There is a municipal lot nearby, but it charges by the day, not the hour, for parking and it can be expensive, particularly since most of the users do not spend the day here. There is no place to rinse off your dog and the water is salty so be sure to rinse your pet when you get home to prevent drying its skin..

This is where the locals bring their dogs to have their time at the beach. Lots if dogs & owners sharing their time, no beach badge required. You are supposed to keep the dogs on their leash, though that seems to only apply when the park ranger's on duty. Everyone is responsible for clean up and free bags are available at the entrance. If you bring human food, expect the dogs to make you crazy begging or sniffing through your tote bags. This is not the beach the go sunning on a lounge chair or beach towel. It is the place to go if you love your dog!

While I agree that people tend to clean up after their pups at the actual beach, you have to watch out for the land mines along the sidewalk right out front. Seems that even though there are bags provided, that some people just can't be bothered... and that threatens to ruin it for the rest of us. Also, you don't need to typically worry about random dog attacks. Most people who bring their pups their are aware of their temperament around other dogs. Everyone has always been super friendly and we've always had a good time. Just a note though- It's very seaweed filled and there are tons of shells, so if your dog's feet are sensitive or get cut up pretty easily, you may want to avoid this spot. Also, drive up and down the side streets a little bit and you can usually find a spot. People don't tend to spend a significant amount of time at Fisherman's Cove, so you can always find someone pulling out of a spot somewhere.

We took our tweenie Dachaund there on a sun morn! Was nervous because I haven't had much luck with these beaches. It seems that the bigger dogs stay farther down towards the end so we were able to stay more by the smaller dogs. Everyone cleans up after their dogs & MOST are kept on leashes! I just wish people with big dogs would realize how intimidating their dogs are to smaller breeds & to people like me!! Worth a trip but be prepared to pay $11.00 to park because it's hard to find street parking But the dog beach is free!

Be safe, do NOT take your dog or your family to this beach. My gentle lab was attacked by a pit bull who clamped onto his throat and left bloody puncture marks. Didn't matter if either dog was on a leash - some dogs are strong and get away from their owner especially if they want to attack. The park ranger, Patrick Kileen, stood by and watched and did nothing while myself and another women attempted to pry the dog off my lab. When asked later why he did not help us, he said he was afraid to use his pepper spray for fear of making the pit bull meaner. So much for protect and serve. After an expensive emergency vet bill and the trauma of it all, I will NEVER go back and advise you to not take your pets nor your family to this location.

We went two weeks ago to this dog beach. Let me say paying the $11 for parking is much easier than trying to find parking. We brought a cooler with drinks and food because there aren't places to get food, unless you are going towards the "people" beach. Personally, bringing food is the best way to go. On the boardwalk there is a bathroom you just have to take a quick walk.The rules are to have your dog on a leash but there were many off a leash, including my dog. All were friendly and it just made sense to just let them swim. A ranger came by telling people to put their dog back on the leash but no tickets were issued. All I can say is my dog had a great time, that's all the matters to me. He swam for hours! We sat close to the entrance but there are spaces further down (we had a cooler so it was just easier to sit close by). I would go back again and plan to in the next week or so. If you're looking for a quiet, clean place for your dog to have some fun go and check it out.

First of all, the numerous descriptions of where Fisherman's Cove is located.........are not helpful. What is the "inlet side" of an inlet? To folks, like me earlier today, laboring to figure out where this beach is located, here is some hopefully more helpful location info:= This dog beach, Fisherman's Cove, is.......not.......on the ocean, however ocean beaches near the inlet are dog accessible from Oct. - April 1= North side of Manasquan Inlet and the park is on the shore of the inlet= West or slightly inland from the mouth of the inlet by about 3 or 4 blocks= Across the inlet from the Point Pleasant parking lot where everyone sits in their cars and watches the boats come in......and slightly west by about 1 or 2 blocks= 383 3rd Ave, Manasquan, NJ 08736.........(732) 922-4080= Just get to the Manasquan beach with your car, turn south until you can't go any further because of the inlet and then follow the street by the inlet west or to-the-right and you will run right into the Fisherman's Cove Park because it butts right up against the street that runs along the inletNow, the park itself:Leashed dogs are the rule, but there appears to be a small measure of flexibility. We visited here Easter Sunday, 2014, and it was wonderful despite the cold air from the ocean. My 10 lb Perth Amboy, NJ rescue, Oscar, loved running along the water and greeting the few dogs on the beach a bunch!You will love this dog beach and so will your canine companion. There are turns that you can't see around in the beach layout so it is a multidimensional walk vis a vis a straight line beach plus you will be looking across the inlet at all the commercial fishing boats plus all the boat traffic coming in the inlet, a visual treat that doesn't stop. Don't hesitate, you will love this dog park/beach, for its great reputation is well deserved.

Having grown up in this area - I passed the cove almost everyday on the way to the real beach. I never went over there. Now when I come back to visit Mom - this is a not miss spot. Our dogs know when we turn off Brielle Road they are close! It is clean and frequented by lots of friendly people and dogs. Wonderful walk along the sort of ocean with the pups who are not allowed beach front until November. Easy off season parking near the inlet. They even provide the poop bags at the entrance. If you are in the Manasquan area with a dog - you will not find a more fun place to visit.

Was traveling with my hound on the Jersey Shore. On the recommendation of my girlfriend, I Googled "Best Dog Beaches of NJ" and found an article on BringFido that listed Fisherman's Cove among them. The beach was long, wide, uncrowded, lots of space to set up, and contained lots of folks with their friendly dogs playing in the water. SO AWESOME! Downsides: convenient parking cost $11, and there are no amenities within easy walking distance of the dog beach -- so pack food and beverages with you. And don't forget fresh water for fido!

I took my dog to the fishermans cove dog beach!! We both had a great time. All the dogs were friendly. Make sure your dog is on a leash though bc a park ranger does walk around and they will give you a ticket. The water and beach was clean and there are no big waves because its an inlet. Had a great time can't wait to go back.
