My friends and I have played all the courses up and down the Jersey coast. We find ourselves going back to Shore Gate since the Staff pays attention to slow rounds. So many of the course we play the Rangers are sitting under trees or seem to be afraid to speak to slow groups. Slow play will destroy the game. We like to play in 4 and half hours and we know that is not always possible at shore course. At Shore Gate they communicate with the players telling you how the course is moving and keep the course moving.Keep up the good work Shore Gate !!!

Anyone who has played this course knows its a nice layout but with almost every hole having either water, wetlands or fairway traps its not the easiest place to play fast. And when several holes (non Par 3's) on a perfectly dry day are set up as cart path only it only adds to the inability to play a round there in 4 1/2 hours. So the last thing I would have expected during our round was a visit after the 6th hole by a marshall telling us we were a hole behind the group in front of us and 6 minutes behind schedule. Sometimes you play behind a fast group of excellent players - thats not within your control - but the group behind us was also a hole away so in our opinion we were not excessively slow. Then to top things off we get stopped at the Par 3 eighth hole by a guy who wants to take our money to play "hit the green" for a sleeve of balls and Golf Digest subscription. We had to explain to him that if we spent time listening to his sales pitch we would incur additional wrath from the marshall for slow play. Feeling pushed we didn't even stop for food at the turn and ultimately finished our round in 4 hrs 45 minutes. I guess my message to Shore Gate is that everyone that golfs in not a single digit handicap and show some consideration for those of us who play as fast at they possibly can - its about the ride not getting there as fast as you can ! Not sure we will go back there if this is how they handle the flow.

This course was very challenging and in great shape. It was well-maintained and worth the greens fee.

Rough start at one of my favorite tracks at the South Jersey shore. Had an early afternoon tee time. Apparently, play was so busy in the AM, they had to wait until carts came in off of 18 to use immediately for the afternoon tee times. Didn't get our bags on a cart until about 25 mins before our tee time. Unacceptable when you're paying $100/man. Should be able to show up an hour or so before tee time put your bag on a cart, head to the range, etc.Need more carts or less golfers! BTW, everything (course condition, food at the turn, etc.) was just fine!!

The place is in GREAT condition. Every green was true and perfect..PLUSH The service was a 10 the hambugers were AWESOME. The food was so good we ordered 2nds. The price we paid was well worth the place that it is. The staff was over the top.Jerry Ehrlich from the Great City of Philadelphia

This is one of the more challenging courses in the area. The greens are well groomed and offer views of the endangered swamp pink in spring. There is seldom a wait. The multiple sand traps that often surround a green, adding to the short game, remind me of a string of pearls.

Very disappointed in my experience at this course. We showed up for an early morning thursday tee time, only to find out the range was closed which is ridiculous for a $100 golf course. We then preceded to wait on every shot on the front nine as a foursome, only to be told to hurry up at the turn while we were purchasing food at their midway house. The greens were covered in sand causing them to run very poorly. After the round we went into the pro shop to let them know we were unhappy with our experience and probably wouldn't be coming back only to have the head pro respond, "great because we don't want you back." Never returning to this course again.

I waited and waited to play this course and when I did I was very satisfied. The staff was very nice, I played on the hottest day of the summer and my brother and I were the only golfers walking that day from what the staff told us. The staff went out of their way to get us waters/food after the first 9 holes, etc. The course is very challenging but thats the game of golf. Theres 80 or more sand traps on the course making it DIFFICULT. You'll be in sand every hole maybe twice on some holes too. I however did not have the worst round of my life. I find the course to be Very Uniquely built and constructed b whoever built it. Theres quite a but of water on alot of holes too. There was a hole that had an entire river of sand parallel to it going down the hole even with the fairway, uniquely designed sand traps, etc. Its a great time, play it when you get the chance. Rates are fair considering the prices of other courses, just make sure to go around a time when the rates are a little lower then other times.

Played it on one of those 105 degree days in august. Great layout, lots of pitfalls, need to play it a few times to score.Course was in excellent shape dispite the heat and humidity.Water & sand come into play alot, but then again it's the beach.

This is located just off the GSP Sea Isle City Exit, very easy to get to.

Great, challenging course; lots of fun to play and takes everything you've got to score well. If you find yourself scrambling you'll do well to walk a way with just a bogey. Greens in great shape and running true but not too fast. Now, about me. I'm a generically, friendly person, polite to everyone, I'll play golf with anyone, anywhere, any time and in just about any weather, too. I always give people the benefit of the doubt and rarely if ever get involved in anything remotely resembling a confrontation. And I didn't on this day either. But I could have. Here's the deal and the problem: perhaps the most rude, insolent, condescending person I've dealt with for quite some time in the Pro Shop(at the register). Checking in and providing the name, the Tee time was reserved in this person merely looked at me like I was from Mars, then stated the price (no problem there--as expected) and then again looked at me like I was bothering him. I paid , he pushed the receipt slip and starter's slip to me all the while looking down at the counter, never said "have a nice day", "keep 'em in the fairway", " thanks" , "have a great round", nothing and then merely turned away (you alright, buddy?). After the 18th hole went in the Pro Shop to buy a shirt, took it up to the register and AGAIN, this person who has no business dealing with the public in ANY line of work looks at me, looks at the shirt, looks at me and just stares. I asked how much the shirt was and he gave some wise remark (color me surprised (& why?)) so I turned and put the shirt back on the rack and left.I don't get it. How can a golf course that is so inherently nice and challenging and fun to play employ such a person. By the way, the starter was friendly, the ranger was great the cart girl was friendly, the snack shack girl was smiling. Everyone at Shore Gate seemd to be fine except this one person. I hope he was just having a very bad day, you know, like his dog died yesterday or something awful was going on in his life BUT I doubt it.Once saw a bumper sticker that read. "If you play golf you're a friend of mine". Apparently some people just don't buy that way of thinking. And those who don't certainly shouldn't be in the business of golf.
