My husband and I have been members here for about a year and a half. They have great rentals, a 25 yard, as well as a 50 yard range. It gets crowded on the weekends, but members get to cut the lines. I prefer the 50 yard range, because there are less rookies. I trust the staff and they have a gun store conveniently located right next store. The store has reasonable prices and a really cute dog named Remington. :)
With my family and friends we went to this place and friends were hesitant to try the firearms at first. We were given some instructions first and got the port after 30 minutes (holiday crowd) and everybody was so happy they tried this. We would return many more times in the future.
Just completed the First Steps Pistol/ Florida CCW class at GFH. First impressions, the building was modern, clean and inviting. The cafe upfront has really good food also. The class was very informative and the instructors Jimmy and Larry and RSO Luis were beyond helpful and super knowledgable. All went out of their way to make sure my experience was exceptional. I'm bringing my wife back here and definitely recommending GFH to everyone I know. Can't say enough good things about this place.
We were visiting New York for the good ladys birthday, I decided to tick off her bucket list and arrange for her to go shooting . Due to State laws, you can't shoot a handgun at a New York range (unless licensed, owner, military or police etc) so after a bit of research I found Gun for hire. Two buses and around an hours drive took us to a sleepy suburban street on which we found, in a very discreet building, the Gun for hire range. We checked in and after verifying our id's and talking us through the do's and don'ts we chose the guns we wished to use, paid for them, our ammunition and targets and were led down to a range where an instructor put us through our paces. There was no pressure, we worked away at our own pace and herself certainly let off some steam. I'm not sure whose face she saw on those targets, I just hope it wasn't mine. This is no macho, shoot em'up place, it's just a friendly, affable bunch of people who are used to dealing with nervous first timers. With a coffee/ snack bar on site and frequent buses stopping right outside, it's a pleasent change from all the NY sight seeing and a great escape from the Jersey outlet malls.Give it a go if you're ever visiting New York. You'll probably find that you like it.
I decided to take my wife to the shooting range and the first one that came to mind was the new Gun for Hire range. I have known about this company for a few years now and saw they opened their own range. It was the best case to take my wife shooting for her first time. She was very nervous to go and the staff and environment settled her down. The staff was very knowledgeable and respectful. I have been shooting guns for a little time now and it made me feel more comfortable when we rented a few guns there. We had the pleasure of meeting Anthony. I cannot tell you how much passion this man has for what he has built. There are not many cases that you can spend the 5 minutes with an owner of company that will ask you as you are leaving how your experience was and wished us to come back again. They also offer many classes that I think my wife and I will join together. Eventually I will become a member of this gun range. Thanks Gun for Hire.
I will be honest me and my wife were a little intimidated at first to even walk in, but boy am I glad we did! This was by far the best experience I've had at any range (that includes the ranges in Europe). The guys and girls make you feel at ease and help you through "first time shooter" jitters (like my wife). She was so impressed that refuses to go anywhere else now and if I do drag her somewhere - she always compares them to this one! If you are a novice or experienced or just curious - you owe to yourself to try this place out.
This place is amazing!! The staff is super friendly, knowledgeable and professional. They try to help with whatever issues you might have. They offer 1:1 or group classes in private classes and in the range at reasonable rates. You can have group parties there. There's a long and short range for close up and distance shooting. Many of the trainers are NJ Police Officers. They even have a little cafe.
The staff is always helpful and friendly! Place is so clean and kept up it's great.Bought my husband the basic membership and he enjoys it and the benefits.Have bought several people gift certificates and they all have enjoyed thier experience and have come back again
So I have wanted to go to a shooting range for years but since no New York ranges allow handguns I always put it off. And then my boyfriend found Gun For Hire and I just couldn't wait to give it a try. The place is pretty big and offers all kinds of classes outside of the standard rent and shoot deal. As first timers, we needed to sign up and fill out a bunch of forms ( a bit annoying but alas necessary). Then we were instructed to go to the rental booth to pick out our guns and ammo (they have over 100 choices from revolvers to shotguns). The guy at the booth was knowledgeable but a bit rushed as there were only two attendees and a bunch of people waiting. Nevertheless, he recommended a proper handgun for first timers like us (a Glock 9mm but we went with the Beretta x4 Storm) and hooked us up with the ammo and safety eye and ear wear. Then another 10min wait and we were in. I was pleasantly surprised by the wait time as it was Sunday and the plaplace looked packed. As we were newbie,s we had to take a 20min beginners course but were allowed to share a booth and the firearm. The instructor, Gary, was very cool, showed us how to handle the gun, load it and, of course shoot. He stayed around afterwards to answer any questions and help. We ended up shooting for 40min and went through 2boxes of ammo. Altogether, the gun rental, ammo, safety equipment, the course, and targets sumed up to $150 - definitely very reasonable and much less than expected. We will definitely be back - had lots of fun and also enjoyed the place and customer service.
Took a First Steps Shotgun class at Gun for Hire on a weekday morning on a day I had off from work. Small class size, friendly staff. Clean place. Not intimidating. Brought my new Remington 870 to learn how to safely use it and walked away comfortable and well-oriented.Learned all about the different parts of the shotgun, how to handle it safely, basic safety precautions, how to load ammunition, how to shoot, and how to clean the weapon. The course included some actual shooting time as well.Instructor was friendly, very knowledgeable, and non-intimidating.Definitely recommend this course for the first time Shotgun user.
I recently took a course at this location and was surprised by the cleanliness and condition of this attraction. The building is ultra modern with plenty of parking. The instructors are friendly, very knowledgeable an d eager to help and answer all questions. Please approach this as a real learning experience, not as a reckless macho place, I saw many women here and they were fully respected as they should be. The range itself is well lit and well maintained, the available selection of firearms for rent is expansive and is not expensive. There are 25 and 50 yard ranges indoors.
Facility is new, clean and state of the art. Staff is friendly, courteous, helpful and professional. They will answer your questions and explain how to shoot the guns safely. They offer safety and self defense courses.
I've been to a few ranges in Jersey and Gun for Hire is by far the best one! Most of the other ranges I've been to are extremely run down and kind of sketchy. Not Gun for Hire--this place is brand new and ultra modern. There is plenty of room inside the range itself which made me feel more comfortable right from the beginning. Other ranges are so cramped, but this place has enough room to shoot and load your ammo without being on top of the person in the port next to you.Another great thing about Gun for Hire is the fact that you can use their guns to shoot! They have a huge selection of guns that you can take into the range with you and try out.I actually went here for my wife's birthday since she never shot a gun before and it was something that she wanted to cross off her bucket list. We even took our daughter as well. The ladies were both super nervous, but the staff at Gun for Hire immediately put them at ease. They took the time to review everything from gun safety to range ettiquette. I thought they went above and beyond and really took the time to make their first experience with guns a positive one. After visiting Gun for Hire, I will never go to another range again! Seriously, try this place once and I guarantee you will feel the same way that I do.I just joined TripAdvisor in July 2014, so that is why I didn't write my review closer to my visit. This place left such an impression that I felt compelled to share my experience.
I was at Gun for Hire/Woodland Park Range around 11am on a Saturday to re-introduce my friend to shooting a handgun and rifle.First time visitors have to read and sign the usual rules and waiver, not a biggie, a lot of ranges with rentals have this too. There are 25 yard and 50 yard points in two different air conditioned but VENTED rooms, the 25 yard ones are more populated. If you want to keep your brass, you need to mark it and tell the RSOs ahead of time. Once you're in a point, if you show that you know what you're doing, the RSOs will leave you alone ... at least they left us alone after they watched/listened to me going thru the four basic rules of firearms safety, when and who can call a cease fire, and how to show your firearm is clear. Points are rented by the hour, and we were never rushed to leave. If you're renting firearms, you can only rent one at a time, but can leave the point to return one rental and get another one.My friend ended up buying a membership to the range after we were done and he enjoyed the time there.
