This is the best public beach on Winnipesaukee . It is very shallow, clean and even has a small sandbar. There is a shop for typical beach items and foods. Swings, slides, volleyball pit and charcoal grills. Easily spend the whole day here if you've got kids. There is a small parking fee that helps maintain the park.
Ellacoya State Park is a great public camping area directly on the water. There on no other public camping areas that I know with access to the Big Lake.
This state park is absolutely beautiful! Very large shoreline, crystal clear water. The water is quite cold, but very refreshing. The bathrooms were kept clean throughout the day. Plenty of picnic tables to eat at. Many tables in the shade to get out of the hot sun. There is also a small camp store on the premises. The store offers cold drinks, snacks and floats for the kids to use in the lake. If you are early birds like my husband and myself they also offer coffee! that was a pleasant surprise. Staff was very friendly and knowledgable about the area.Over all a great experience.
this place is never crowded and never littered. plenty of shade and the fishing is pretty good. i have been to many state parks and this is one of our family favorites. its just far enough away from boston for a day trip.
Nothing to dislike! The beach is a wide shallow sand bar (don't boat here!). This makes it very safe for young children. The water is fresh and clean. The sand is clean and soft... Did I mention that there really isn't anything to dislike about this location ;-)
A well organized triathlon for many years now, but for the parking. Volunteers could be given a bit more courtesy.
Great place for the Timberman Triathlon. The lake is beautiful and so clean. It is a nice set up for the race.
This state park was such a pleasant surprise. Beautiful views of the mountains. Big enough to not feel crowded. Clean and well maintained. Dressing rooms and bathrooms were nice but would have liked a shower. Will be going back again and again.
Practically grew up on the 'Big Lake' & Ellacoya has one of the best views around. Small NH State RV Campground, quiet & close to local attractions... My sister & her family stay there for a week every summer... just lovely....
Ellacoya State Park is a wonderful place to spend the day in the Lakes Region. A beautiful, sandy beach and wonderful picnic site. You can see across the water to the White Mountains, and even watch the MS Mount Washington make its run across the lake.
Great swimming lake. Cheap like 4$ to get in. Bring your grill and chairs and food and activities and spend the day. Did not like the port a potties. I just prefer a bathroom. Only downside in my opinion. A little rocky, water shoes are preferable. Plenty of shade, but some mosquitoes too.
This is a really nice campground and very close to many attractions. It is well maintained and the camp staff was very friendly. I would not hesitate to come back for a moment. There is very little car traffic in the campground so it is a good place for small children to bike around. There is plenty of space between each campsite.
2 Memorial Day weekends in a row, that should tell you something. This place is amazing, very flat, easy setup, three-way hookups, nice grass open sites. No camp fires at individual sites which is a let down, but understandable, as I asked the rangers why it is....due to al the campers being so close together with propane tanks on all....so, community camp fire it is!! We also hike Mt. Major again this year. All around fun Fun FUN!!!
This was our second year at Ellacoya for Memorial Day weekend. The weather was not on our side, but there's still so much to do in the area; Fun Spot, Mt. Major, state beach, Gunstock, etc. Sites are big and easy pull through. All grass. No mud. Only downside is no campfire on your site. Must go to the community fireplace for a campfire.
With the Park Pass plate it's free. Also free after 5:00 p.m. to everyone . * a lake being with an entrance and exit stream PL:US a variation in temperature by layers of depth.
