If you're in the area it's a must do hike around part of the very scenic NewFound lake. Half the hike has lake views and the other half is a quiet walk in the woods. We did it Thanksgiving week so no insects!
The kids were really into the exhibits. We asked about the turtle and the guide brought out the turtle's food. This turned into a question and answer session. It was raining so we did not walk around outside. The indoor part held us for about 40 minutes.
We had a wonderful experience here and I would highly recommend this to anyone with young children. The Audubon employee inside the nature center was so engaging and spent tons of time with the kids showing them all the different displays inside. This was like a mini science center and I did not expect it to be so child friendly. We did the short loop hike along the lake shore and it was beautiful. The kids had a great time hunting for all the things the Audubon employee had counseled them to look for. We had so much fun on this amazing lake. What a find! Parking is a bit limited because you can also rent boats here. A+ experience!
I picked up a flyer in the local pizza place that listed programs for children at Paradise Point. I signed my son up for a 90 minute program with a naturalist. Despite vacationing in this area for over 20 years, I had somehow never made it over to Paradise Point. I did not know what I had been missing! My 8-year-old daughter and 10-year-old son and I stopped in for the program. Although the naturalist was running late, the person (volunteer?) at the nature center could not have been nicer. He showed my son the turtle pen, sat down with my kids and the other children there for the program and played a card game with them about ecology, and suggested hikes in the area. When the naturalist DID arrive, my children enjoyed their time out on the property with butterfly nets and then back drawing pictures of what they had found. We had a nice, easy hike on a loop path and had lunch down by the water (Newfound Lake). There is a popular Fairy House program on Friday mornings at Paradise Point that children need to register for.
