Nice older couple running this small ~70 year orchard with mostly macs but also some empire, northern spy, red delicious and i think cortland. We went on Columbus day and they were planning to stay open another 1 or 2 weeks (can't remember the exact closing date). They let us know which apples were best for eating fresh, baking into bread, making pie showed us how to pick them without accidentally damaging next year's buds. The one weird thing was that they were hoping we'd brought our own bags for holding the apples, but did have plastic shaws bags available. They were only charging about half as much as the Boston area orchards we had visited in the past so we felt it was a really good deal. They also sell some gourds, squash and pumpkins (both for decoration and eating).
The owners were very nice contrary to another review we picked lots of nice apples and bought a home grown gourd. After they let us hike a short trail behind their house that leads to the top of the hill/mountain that the orchard is at the base of, at the top they have a bench and one of the most beautiful views of the surrounding area.
I am a local resident of conway, and i brought my nephews to go apple picking on a sunday afternoon. The woman who runs the orchard completely ruined the experience, she was rude and condescending. The Apples weren't even low enough to pick off the tree, we had to pick them up off the ground. It was the worst experience i have ever had at an apple orchard and i will NEVER give hatch's my business again.
We drove for a while to get to the Hatch Orchard, it was their last day of the season and they were officially closed, however they did let us pick the apples. It was gorgeous, the kids had a blast.
What a fun time my family and I had at the Hatches Orchard. Nothing fancy, just drive up and pick your own apples. The owners are very personable and full of character. Must do for families headed to the fair and need a break from the chaos.
