In winter, this is a beautiful hidden gem. 20 minute walk in, over a steady incline will get you to the Flume allowing you to see some amazing ice structures, in a narrow gorge. Ice climbers will be there early on, so if you want to see some really fantastic sites, get there and watch them prepare and climb. Parking is available in winter, though you will need good boots or snowshoes to reach the destination. Hard packed snow, but slippery.
Even though it was hot out, once you got down inside the gorge, it was just right. My kids had a great time! There are several places where you can climb down under the rocks. There are maps at each one that show you where you are in the gorge and where you will be going when you go under. It was very informative as well. After you come out of the gorge and are walking back to the parking area, there are many plants and trees that also have descriptions and history attached to them.
Like all of our visit at Lincoln NH, this was a great surprise. Be prepared to climb. It isn't difficult for the average person but could be taxing on one unaccustomed to light/medium exercise. Regardless, brave it because it is very cool.
The Flume Gorge itself is absolutely beautiful. However, there were many drawbacks to this hike. First off, the line to get in took forever to get through, and there were so many noisy people and kids that it was hard to enjoy. I was trying to enjoy a nice hike with my dad but it was next to impossible when there's kids screaming and people talking loudly on the phone. To add on to that, the stairway through the Gorge is WAY too narrow for all those people trying to get through. I had to dodge all these people who were taking pictures and wait for people just standing and taking up the narrow walking space. Also, the price to get in is WAY too expensive. Unfortunately, I do not recommend this hike if you want to enjoy a peaceful walk through nature.
go there as a part of the deal with cannon mountain..one price for both attractions..very easy hike, super views of the water falls .. picture paradise if you love taking them..
I have been all over the US. Flume gorge is the most awesome place I have EVER been. Take the hike and enjoy. But take a jacket with you. You'll need it.
Walked this with a friend. The walk was easy enough, some inclines, but the photos I took were gorgeous! One tip, wear sensible shoes please! Although the trail is well maintained, the boardwalk can be wet so wear good shoes. This is a great place to stop if you are driving through the area!
I liked the nice walk we took and we had a great day .The path was a nice clean and pretty friendly walk.
This is a great place to go for some pretty neat photos! The hike is generally easy and I would say most people can complete it. There is a quick route if you want to opt out of the entire thing.. But if you can do it, I say complete it!
I wasn't sure what to expect from Flume Gorge but we were certainly impressed. We visited in fall season on a rainy day. Some reviewers say it is worth the walk but to my mind it IS the walk that makes this attraction special. It's the trees, the foliage, the views of the nearby mountains and yes the gorge that are special. We got soaked by some pouring rain but we are glad we visited Flume Gorge. Don't miss in foliage season.
This is a fairly easy hike for anyone without any debilitating health conditions. There is so much to see along the hike both to the top as well as going back down. Countless different rock formations, and with constant changes in the water flows, each time you return you will be guaranteed to have a completely different view. This is certainly an attraction that you can return to time and again!
This is not an easy hike, but most people could do it without much effort. There are some uphill sections and some stairs, but if you take your time, the pay off is probably worth it.The hike follows a stream upward, providing many chances for great photos. A couple of bridges, waterfalls, and dramatic valley shots. It's an easy way to enjoy a little slice of "off highway" wilderness. I would recommend it.
Not too strenuous a walk, interesting, nice wooden walkways up the Gorge, good photo opportunities. Do it on a nice day and breath in the fresh air and lovely woodlands.
My 10 year old loved climbing through the caves. You don't need to go into the caves to enjoy the natural beauty. They have a wood walkway that winds through the gorge. It takes about an hour to go through the gorge.
I don't know why this place gets such great reviews. I was really looking forward to checking it out, based on the reviews, but I was incredibly disappointed. The walk in the woods is nice, as is the gorge. But it's not exceptional. There are a lot of other places in the area that are just as scenic or more so. But the PRICE! It is very pricey to visit and not at all worth it. So many other nearby areas are just as nice and they're free or low-priced.And so many people on a Wednesday in September. It was packed full of people, so it was hard to enjoy the beauty when we were surrounded by people snapping pictures.Bottom line: okay natural area, but not at all worth the price or the crowds.
