A visit to the Clark House Museum in Wolfeboro, was one of the highlights of our visit to New Hampshire. Being led by two kind and knowledgeable guides, made the tour an entertaining and educational experience. Their love of our cultural heritage and children was obvious by their very generous sharing of their time and their question and answer approach. Dressed in period clothing, they took you back in time to when many of the artifacts in the museum were still in use. The museum consists of three buildings. The Fire House, the Clark House (it was built during the Revolutionary War!) and the School House. At the Fire House, the guide gave us fun and detailed information about each pristine fire engine, such as why one was pulled by people instead of horses. We also learned about a clever system that let the fire fighters know where the fire was.The Clark House is fully furnished with items from different historical periods. The guide stirred our imagination of what life was like for the residents, especially for a young girl of my daughter’s age by demonstrating and letting her try some of the everyday items in the house. In the School House, we learned what it took to graduate and other interesting facts about school life. We also were given the chance to try writing with a quill pen. This museum is great because you’re not just looking at things but are told about them, can ask questions and in some cases, interact with it.
An historic gem. This little complex gives an authentic look into Wolfeboro's past. The local docents do a wonderful job and it is well worth a look to support a worthwhile endeavor.
I enjoyed going to the Clark House Museum. It starts off with a tour of some old fire engines. After that you go to the old Clark House. The tour is very detailed and the have a very big collection of artifacts from many different years. The house is well kept. Next you head to the School House. They even have a model of Wentworth's House inside the schoolhouse.
