The museum is small and informative. Lots of interesting facts and items from many sources. Loved the 1924 operating room setup.
Cool little place packed with history and artifacts its free and something to do while in lava. There is a wide variety of artifacts from the old bank vault that now holds equipment from the old hospital to soldier uniforms and guns, to railroad workers tools. Neat place
cute little place with a diverse selection of local artifacts and information on display. its free so worth a walk through
Enjoyed the museum. Lady was very knowledgeable and kind. Saw many interesting artifacts. A great little place to visit, I thoroughly recommend visiting.
The museum was great. We learned quite a bit about the area. Ironically we have been going to Lava for years and never went to the museum. It had tons of interesting stories and pieces of history.
Local, informative, relevant to area, and authentic in natural, regional history and people. Much recommended
The South Bannock County Historical Museum is a great place to learn about the area. The exhibits are interesting-providing information about the area in a way that is very interesting. Many exhibits put a human face on the historical information-talking about rancher ...While we were there, some children were practicing for an area history play they will put on. It was interesting to hear them practice. The staff were very happy to answer questions but didn't hover. You can visit the museum for free. We made a small donation because we really enjoyed the museum.
The museum was in an old bank building and was a bit cramped, but filled with a lot of local history and artifacts! There was no charge to enter; however they do accept donations... Definitely worth the 30 - 45 minutes walking through. The Docent was very friendly and knowledgeable!
This is a fun little museum. They have tons of old year books that are entertaining to look through. The staff is all super friendly.
There is no charge for this museum and if you like antiques, they have a few nice ones on display here.
The SBCHCM is located on Main Street in the heart of Lava Hot Springs. The exhibits convey the history of the Lava Hot Springs area. Among the exhibits is one devoted to that segment of the Oregon Trail that passed through/near Lava Hot Springs. The exhibit is a nice complement to interpretations offered by other museums and historic sites along the Oregon Trail in southeast Idaho.
Fun stop to get a good grip on this area. It is very interesting to see all the memorabilia that they have collected. The hosts are full of information about all aspects of this area.
If you want to see some very interesting exhibits and really get a feel for how long the hot springs came about and the history of the place, this is a very interesting museum. They changed their exhibits from time to time so going back after you see that makes it worthwhile. The folks that staff the museum are very knowledgeable and are extremely pleasant do yourself a favor and go in and check this out you won't be disappointed.
I love history and this little town definitely has a lot of it. The exhibits were so personable. Really cool stuff.
I am a history buff, so I enjoy historical museums. This museum has pictures of the pools before they were commercialized. They also had artifacts from the early settlers of Bannock County. It was very accessible and the staff was very pleasant and friendly. I took my husband there to show him the story of the Ligers, and we both quoted Napoleon Dynamite and laughed!
