the trail to get there is a goat trail but well worth it. Blue opal colored water, snow banks crashing down into the lake from the warm weather run off in september, a waterfall, what more do you want. But if you keep climbing up towards Thompson Peak, you find a small glacier, lake after lake with trout that will attack a pebble when you throw into the water. Just do it

Place was great, food was excellent, restaurant manager was very accommodating on a last minute drop in. Would recommend and look forward to going back.

Snowshoeing out of Galena Lodge was fun. However, the trails were very narrow. We snowshoe a lot in Yosemite and most of the time we can walk side by side and talk to each other. Not on the trails out of Galena Lodge. It is single file the whole way.

We were here in January and the snow, mountains, trees and rock formations made for incredible photo ops.

So many mountain lakes, so many miles of trails, and so little time. How about a couple of lifetimes ? Mt Goats, Deer, Elk, Black Bear, Mt Lions, Wolves It's not a petting zoo. But it's right out your cabin door !!

we spent 2 weeks around the area hiking and looking for wildlife and it was an incredible place to be an explore. I will miss this place for long time . We were here in the month of October, the weather was cool and the trails were a pleasure with no bugs or people around.

We drove through the Sawtooth mountains. When you see them, you will understand why they are named Sawtooth. They are jagged like the blade of a saw!

The drive u 75 is awe inspiring. If you haven't seen it, you must. Be sure and stop at the turn out at the top of the pass... and read the signs. Never knew salmon were red. The valley is a georgeous drive, with the Mnts. surrounding you.

My friends and I went for a hike in the Sawtooth Wilderness and the mountains, trees, lakes, and streams were amazing.

For more than 50 years now, I have hiked, backpacked and loved the Sawtooth Mountains. There are many ways to enter the National Recreation Area. You can see the great vistas between Ketchum and Stanley, and enter the area from the famous Redfish Lake area. You can also get into the wilderness from Atlanta,ID which is about 70 miles from Boise, mostly on dirt road. One of my favorite areas to go though is through Grandjean. Grandjean is at the northern entrance to the wilderness area and has some great hiking. There is also a National Forest campground and Sacajawea Hot Springs is nearby. You can follow the South Fork of the Payette River or enter the high country up Trail Creek. Last time there I saw a beautiful black bear right on the trail, so know that it is indeed a wilderness area.

The area is visually breath-taking. A great place to hike, backpack, mountain bike, camp and fish. Be aware, however, that Idaho now allows trapping of wildlife and if you have a dog with you (or if you are on horseback) you run the risk of having your animal maimed if they hit a trap. Also - sheep herders pass through the area with their flocks on the way south in the fall. The massive dogs they use to protect their flocks will kill your dog (or harm you). Steer clear of them!

Idaho has it all. Wilderness areas with lakes, mountains, and rivers. The Sawtooth Wilderness is vast and wild. Animals are everywhere.Go sooner than later.

We were pleased with campsite, it was quiet and scenic. There was even a creek behind us that we waded in and could hear rushing by as we fell asleep. Great night!Pit toilet and bathroom kinda sucks but hey it's camping.
