We have been coming to Bethany since I was little, now that we have a little one, I am always looking for educational/fun activities... This place was absolutely wonderful! My daughter had a great time feeding the turtles, exploring with her butterfly net and playing on the playground. You could easily spend 2-3 hours here and there are beautiful picnic tables throughout the park. The trail out to the marshes is handicap accessible and totally worth the walk! Not far. Also a couple geocaches nearby if you are into that! The staff was wonderful, friendly and very kind to my curious (touching everything) toddler. There are some really cool exhibits/stations inside the building as well. Glad we found this place! It's wonderful that this educational and historic gem is so close to town!
On a family vacation to Bethany Beach, we took our grandchildren (and their parents - a group of 12) to the nature center. The hostess was very welcoming and friendly. As the first visitors of the day, our 4 grandchildren got to feed the turtles as she talked about them. There were nice displays inside and crafts. The kids loaded up on binoculars and butterfly nets and headed out on their journey to find specific nature items on the trail. The kids were between 6 and 2 and loved to explore. There is also a nice playground. And all was free! A nice way to spend an hour of vacation. Great job!
After spending many days on the beach this Nature Center was a great way to spend a few morning hours with the kids. The woman who worked at the center was warm, inviting, and helpful in getting the kids outdoors to explore nature. The kids loved the scavenger hunt and the adults really enjoyed the nice walk down the groomed trail and onto the observation deck. Great activity to start the day. Loved it.
We spent about an hour here during our vacation when rain was on the way, and we didn't want to sit on the beach. The nature center has nets and binoculars for kids that make them feel like little explorers, there's a trail into the marsh, and a small playground.
See this website for center info: http://www.inlandbays.org/visit-us-bethany-beach-nature-center/We visited on a Saturday morning at 10:30 just as the family program was beginning. We didn't know this was happening so it was a surprise to us. The program was very organized and the kids (5 & 2.5) had a lot of fun exploring the nature trail and the inside of the center. Staff was friendly and helpful in answering questions. There is a nice little playground on site and fun things for the kids to do inside the center (crafts, exploring toys, displays, etc). Visit the website above as the one listed on trip advisor doesn't work.
This little museum is terrific for young kids on a rainy afternoon or morning when you need something to do. There is much information about bay fauna flora. There are even two live turtles. Make sure you walk the trail.
Went with three other families on a cloudy day during vacation. The kids loved it all, the playground, the nature walk and scavenger hunt. The person inside was very friendly and got all the kids a clipboard with a scavenger hunt page and a butterfly net. We didn't really catch anything, but the kids (4-5 years old) had a blast trying to find the things on the sheet (a bird, a spider web, a mushroom, a flower, etc.). Ironically, two of the things that you would think would be the easiest to find were the hardest, a squirrel (never saw one) and an ant (found a teeny, tiny one by the garbage can). It was a very clean and the walk out into the wetlands was fun for all.Inside they have some neat educational things including this cool video wall where you slide a monitor down a track to learn different things about the Mid-Atlantic coast ecosystem. Again, a fun day for all and the kids were into it.
About a mile walk from the beach (but they have plenty of parking) and the lovely wooded property Is a nice respit from the sunny beach. Bring the children for an interesting tour inside the historic cottage, then take the nature walk out to the wetlands. Gorgeous views that are hard to find anywhere else in town. Even a small playground for the little ones. You will be pleasantly surprised.
We really enjoyed visiting this nature center. My 3 yr old had a great time walking on the little nature trail and playing on the mini playground equipment. They also had some crayons and nature pictures for her to color. I wouldn't necessarily recommend for older kids, but definitely for the younger ones. It's totally free and the staff is very friendly. They even give the kids a little butterfly net for the nature walk.
Often overlooked by visitors to our town. I reall is a must see. Just off of route 26, it is a great place to walk and see the nature of the wet lands, and understand why it is most important to perserve it.
We stopped here based on the Trip Advisor reviews and enjoyed the short movie about the center. Nice exhibits and the volunteer was very helpful. We also walked out the short trail to the water and enjoyed the native plants, and garden. The top view was the two osprey and their nest. At the end of the walkway is a deck out over the marsh where one can observe the birds and enjoy the quiet. Only spend about an hour there but on a sunny day, its really a lovely spot. We have no children but there is also a small playground and many kid-friendly exhibits inside.
Based on a review I read on TripAdvisor my sister and I decided to visit the Bethany Beach Nature Center with four young children. The experience was fun and educational. After exploring the nature museum, we took a nature walk along the marked trail. We ate a picnic lunch in the gazebo on the grounds. There is also a small playground. There is no charge. Plan on a couple of hours to explore the grounds. The attendant could have been a little more helpful, but otherwise we had a fun time.
Great indoor space for 3 yrs old and up. They had some animal & insect displays, an interactive computer display with videos, crafts for children, an aquarium with 2 turtles and 2 goldfish, and as we were the only ones there, one-on-one attention from the only worker there. Good place to spend 45 min inside. There's also a very short boardwalk into the middle of the marsh, and a small but nice looking playground, with some garden space outside.
The walk out to the bay is lovely. The new picnic area is a nice addition. The playground is just right for little ones. The Nature Center is very interesting.
