This is such a great place to go with small children. We took our old dog and two kids. They were able to explore, run, hike, take pictures, and enjoy the red rocks and hoo doos all while being one to ten minutes from the car. There are picnic tables and a porta potty by the parking lot. The drive to get there is a long dirt road. But it was worth it to see such beautiful formations without an hour hike!

What a fabulous place for kids to play, and for adults who still like to play. You can climb on, through, around, up, and down red-colored sandstone formations. For photographers, I would recommend kind of early in the morning or a late afternoon time so the color is not washed out by the sun.By my SUV's odometer, the turn off for Devils Garden is 11.6 miles down Hole-in-the-Rock Road, off of UT-12. Then it's .25 mile to the parking area. Pit toilet and picnic tables are available.

The Devils garden itself is really cool and the fact that they actually have a toilet out here makes it that much better. The formations were really neat, we didn't do any trail walking as we already had a long trail planned for later in the day. There was still plenty of formations for us to see and walk around. Now the rough part is the road getting here, washboard, some light sandy areas, now we managed in a campervan, but not optimal by any means. I really thought teeth were going to rattle out of my head, my husband and I could just only laugh at the roughness of the road or get irritated, so we laughed! Okay I have to say maybe if we had a truck or some kind of suv, it would have made for a slightly better trip but considering it took us almost an hour to get here. You may want to skip this attraction if you aren't crazy about washboard roads or if you are short on time.

Takes a rather bumpy ride down a gravel road but worth the effort. Unusual rock formations greet you in the parking area. The walk can be short and easy but it appeared a much longer hike could be enjoyed too. Allow enough time to get there before dark.

Given all of the sites and vistas in this part of Utah, Devil's Garden comes up a bit short in comparison. While the formations are interesting (I am a photographer) there is just so much other beauty to see in the area that this particular location comes up a bit short. The fact that you have to drive several miles down a dusty gravel road further detracts from its appeal to the casual tourist.That said, if you are a photographer looking for interesting shapes then stopping by at sunset is worth the trip. I shot a series making the "holes" between the rocks the subject and enjoyed my time there.

Even with visiting 3 national parks in the area, this was still the favorite spot for my father. Being able to walk amongst the formations in total isolation just can't be over stated. And the drive down was rather exciting with a few muddy spots that had us guessing what we'd do if we got stuck. For our group of 4, there was no doubt that it was worth a visit. There is a pit toilet, but bring your own paper.

You must see this place where winds and time designed weird-shaped rock formation. Be prepared to drive about 10 miles by unpaved Hole-in-the-rock Rd. from Scenic Hwy 12 west from Escalante, UT. It's worth to go. Be sure, that there is no mud on the road.

These wonderful formations were quite close to the road and parking area, but it would be worth even a longer walk. Tremendous varied formations of wonderful colours. After walking through the many giant formation, you find interesting rock formations, like waves in the rocks you are walking on.

Great photography with the beautiful stone formations. Easy access from good parking. A must stop on the Hole-in-the-Rock Road.

A bumpy drive on a dirt road, but to climb on the rock formations made it worth the trip. I especially liked the natural bridge where a large piece of the bridge had fallen down onto the trail below. There are many vertical rock spires to climb upon.

You can't compare these hoodoos with what you will find at Bryce or Cedar Breaks. We decided to check them out along with HITR road before moving on. The formations do have their uniqueness, but I would not go out of my way to visit this site. It is a nice picnic area for families, as the kids could play among the sandstone while waiting for the meal.

This is a neat state park. We had the whole park to ourselves with the snow floating in the air. I thought it would be a great place to let obedient kids come play. There are some dangers if they get atop some formations. We made it to the hole in the wall and stopped here on the way back.

The creativity of erosion is a blast! You won't be disappointed in the wacky shapes, shadows, and views. Travel smart with proper planning so you don't get yourself in trouble.

First time when i've read about devils garden i've said to myself " Why i've to go there to see some rocks when i've already seen Bryce and bigger natural parks?"The reason is easy, here you can interact with the HOODOS (sedimentary rock formations tall and thin, tipically of this zone), climbing, hiking around, jumping from rock to rock, without the crowd of well know spots.Reach DevilG is easy, from UT 12 just turn on "hole in the rock road" (an unpaved road that arrive at lake powell).Drive for about 20 minutes, 16 miles,and you will see the sign of the place on your right.The road is unpaved but every type of car is ok, just keep attention after a T-Storm or heavy rain. Floods could be dangerous also for a 4wd.The parking lot is next to Hoodos, so you don't have to walk for hours to start your experience.Than the fun begin.Is extremly cool to walk between rocks in the middle of nowhere.There a lot of points of easy access to get on the top of the hoodos, and once you are up, you can also walk on some arches.This place has surprised me, absoulutly a must see.SOME TIPS: you need about 20/30 minutes from UT12 to arrive , drive carefully cuz after 30mph the car can go out of control if you use the brake.A lot of dirt on the road.Trust me:)There's no fees.Go there on sunset/sunrise, shadows at that time could be amazing.

If you happen to drive along the scenic Utah 12, try to dedicate a couple of hours to a visit to this little known place along the hole in the rock road. You'll get there in maybe 20 mnts from the main road (Utah 12) and the Devil's Garden area is just a few hundred yards from the parking area. (No fees no limits).If you visit during the "golden hour" the photo opportunities are fabulous. Winter is better than summer.MC
