Driving to Yellowstone from Salt Lake City. Taking several scenic byways alomg the way. Leaving Logan on US89 to Bear Lake. Over the pass and stop at the visitors center on the top of the mountain overlooking the lake. Great stop to read and learn about the area, geology, fauna and history. Then just take in the panorama of Bear Lake before driving down to the shoreline. Lots to do in the area. Unfortunately we were just seeking drive-by scenery. Beautiful, blue sky, sunny day.

We were driving from salt lake city to Jackson Hole ( Grand Tetons and Yellowstone) Saw this lake and stopped to take a few pics and look around

Even in the off season Bear Lake is beautiful. The kids had fun looking for tiny snail shells on the beach. I was very skeptical about the claim that the water color is similar to that near Bermuda and our first day did nothing to change my mind. We had a storm overnight, though, and the next day the water was a totally different color. It may not be exactly like Bermuda but it's definitely close. I've only seen that blue-green color in Bermuda and off the coast of the Lizard in Britain. It's amazing.

OMG, so much to do and so little time to do it in.You could stay here for weeks, maybe even months. I wishwe could have. From Camping, to Inns, Hotels, and Motels. You name it it'sthere. There is Jet Ski. Beach, Golf, yes Golf, Cross Country Skiing, Fishing CavesPlayhouse.I can't say enough. It's almost like one stop shopping. You don't even have to\leave. Everything it right there.Love it here.

Huge beautiful lake, such wonderful campsites around the lake. Very nice road all the way around and so many places to stop for a breath taking view. Very quiet in Oct. sure would be fun to see in summer when its busy.

Very beautiful this time of year. We stayed at the state park campground on the Utah side and it was nice. Full hook ups and only $25 per night. Was not real crowed. The fall colors are starting to change so a drive around the lake and you could see all the fall colors. Also tried a couple if restaraunts, but I will review them separately. The park has nice clean restrooms and showers. Each sight also has a fire pit and a covered picnic table.

It is a beautiful lake with a lot of activities to do. The water is so clear and blue and the views were great. We also rented a jet ski to explore the lake a but more.Do not forget to order the Raspberry Shake (of course during season)!

We've been going to Bear Lake for years, and it doesn't matter what time of the year you go, it's always beautiful at Bear Lake. The water is clear and blue, and the night skies are amazing. We always stay at a friends cabin, and recently spent a few days there. We were visited by wild turkeys, cottontail rabbits and a doe with her two fawns. We traveled north to just over the Idaho border, to Gladys's for delicious raspberry shakes and of course scratch off's and lottery tickets. You couldn't ask for a better view than Bear Lake while you're golfing at one of the great courses, and then there's the amazing lake...swimming, boating, paddle boarding, or just floating on a raft, it doesn't get much better.

Loved the views - it was so beautiful. We ate at Jake's Place and can I say the Raspberry shakes were great, but the food was less than perfect. Our fries were not cooked enough, the French dip sandwich was small and not good quality for the money we paid. It felt very much like a typical tourist trap.

water was so blue and beautiful, wished it was a little warmer. Very clean too. It is our family's tradition to visit Bear Lake every summer.

My family traveled to Laketown, Utah which is just a couple of miles from Rendezvous Beach at Bear Lake. Bear Lake is beautiful and there is no shortage of little town stores and cafes that serve the famous Raspberry shakes. So you might say it's quaint or you might say it's sparse or filled with commerce opportunities. I think we went at the wrong time of year. There were mosquitos day and night but they were turned off by our repellent thankfully but had we not been armed with that, we would have been eaten alive. As it was, one of my grandsons was pelted and welted. We had stayed a few weeks previously at another camp ground and I appreciated their "lights out" rule of 10pm. They may have had a rule like that at this campground but it was NOT enforced. People were yelling and screaming, kids were running around, dogs were barking. It was impossible to get to sleep. Add on top of that, no fault of the campground, but the weather was horrid through the night. Gale force winds threatened to pick us up and land us in Oz, rain, hail, lightning and thunder. The temperature plummeted through the night and it was so cold the next day. Fortunately, we had been wise enough to put up our food so nothing was ruined and the skunk that visited was disinterested after he chomped up the few pieces of popcorn that had fallen on the ground the night before. Gratefully, he didn't stay long. The bathrooms were not in very good repair and maybe it's unfair to make comparisons but the other campground had impeccable bathrooms. I'm not a princess when I'm camping but I do appreciate a clean bathroom. We ventured down to the water, which was about 1/2 a football field length from the campground, which wasn't bad and the water was so beautiful. I especially enjoyed the fact that the shoreline was quite shallow for about 75 feet out. The kids were able to enjoy splashing very safely in their little life jackets and shallow water. Maybe I expected too much of the experience, being Bear Lake and all. It's always been a bit glamorized. I gave it an average rating because I think the experience was not a nice as our experience at the other campground and it was far more crowded but didn't feel that way. I do believe that should someone choose to rent a cabin on the other side of the lake, they would likely have a much better experience.Pros: Water was beautiful, perfect splashing depth, opportunities for water toy rental, plenty of cooking spots within the campground, a pavilion, showers, a sink to wash dishes, plenty of shade trees, cost.Cons: Mosquitos, forest animals, weather, time of year, no "quiet time" enforcement, campgrounds poorly marked which resulted in some encroachment on our camp area, if you don't swim or don't like water, hopefully you like Sudoku or reading, limited parking per site, parking fee

Though I've been married to someone who grew up 45 minutes from Bear Lake for 7 years, I finally got to experience it for this first time this summer and all I can say is WHY DID I WAIT THIS LONG??Bear Lake was absolutely gorgeous. Our one day trip ended up turning into 3 as her family came up with all their water toys and campers. We stayed our first night at the Rendezvous Campground, which is at the absolute southern tip of the lake. This campground was superb, with great hookups and facilities. The beach here was so so - lots of grass and rocks on the beach, healthy amount of seaweed in the shallow water - but it definitely worked for us.The second day we went to the north end and stayed at the Hot Springs campground. No way around it, this place was kind of a dump. However, you do not pay for the campsite, you pay for the beach and the beach up there was AMAZING. I have nothing bad to say about it - you are literally 1/4 of a mile from a great boat launch, the sand was easy to drive on and the water here is terrific. The last night was at the KOA on the west side of the lake. The staff at the KOA were not the friendliest tbh, but the campground was excellent. Kind of a bummer that you have to drive to the lake, but the activities and amenities here were superb. All in all, if you are ANYWHERE near Bear Lake, make a day of it, or heck, an entire week!

We really enjoyed Bear Lake. It was almost completely free of algae at Rendezvous Beach. It has a sandy shore and even shells for little kids to collect. The shore is really shallow so there is lots of room for kids to play without falling into a deep spot. The water is kind of cold, so be prepared for that. Bring digging tools for kids to use while they warm up. :)

It was a short trip last weekend with some friends. 2 hour drive from Pocatello, Idaho. What a nice lake. The town is small though. Love the environment around bear lake a lot. The only you should consider is restaurants are closed Sundays (except 1 r 2).
