In the early days we would ride up to Gemini Bridges and back on the old 4x4 road, which was very close to singletrack in places. Now the road is a groomed highway, but thankfully the trail crew has built some incredible singletrack loops and options. Getaway, Great Escape, Arth's Corner, Little Canyon, and Bull Run are all fantastic routes…don't miss Gold Bar Singletrack formally known as the Blue Dot Trail.
We took the 4wd to Gemini Bridges and enjoyed every minute. The views were fabulous, and it was fun to walk out onto the Bridge. What we enjoyed even more, was stopping in Bull Canyon on the way, so we could see the Bridges from below.
We loved our time here. We took our jeep rental, Twisted Jeeps, up the trail from the highway. It was a great little trail for us. We stopped and checked out the bridges and they were awesome. After we continued on our road to Dead Horse State Park right from there. It was a great little trail. On our way back to Moab we just stayed on the highway and got back to the main road into Moab.
Nothing to dislike. Love GB so much. Married on a rock along the trail 18 yrs ago. Always travel this trail. Always.
Nine days prior to this outing Moab had 70% chance of precipitation, which meant it rained all day. Best to stay off wet trails to prevent deep ruts. Usually takes two days, at least, to dry out. Then, you get these fine roads during the dry road times. No snow yet this December 2014 so the climb from Hwy 191 into Little Canyon is good, otherwise, the Gemini Bridges Road here is in perpetual shade and will be icy. Go slow, we encountered mountain bikers going in both directions. One pedaling person made the descent rather radically as we crept up to Little Canyon. The bridge turn off has many parking slots. The second parking area results in a walk straight out to the bridges. We went back to the Bull Canyon sign to navigate to the parking for a foot path to check out the Gemini Bridges from the bottom.Couple Winter Time notes:Take a fire pan, there is drift wood from monsoon season to burn, then pack out your coals & ashes - Leave No Trace - plan to have a little hot meal, in fact.Pack out toilet paper. If a single vehicle, stick to the Gemini Bridges road, more likely to have traffic to flag for help if required. Better to be a group of vehicles.Bring supplies for an overnight, in case, no one is on the trail to flag down. (food, water, warm-warm sleeping bag)Do not depend on cell service.Leave a plan behind, so if you don't check in at the prescribed time, your concerned other will activate 911. Stick to your plan, so 911 will know where to find you. Your concerned other can be located in your home place, not necessarily in a hotel room in Moab. Could be the jeep rental place, which often closes by 5 PM in winter. That is ok, because it is getting dark at 5 PM in winter in Moab.
When entering GTB Rd., you have no idea of the adventure ahead that includes a sparsely labeled road. Areas of questionable crossing. Uninhabited. No cell phone contact, yet some of the most beautiful scenery. A 12 mile drive that take 2-3 hours. Have water and snacks. Don't look at the maps. They are all wrong!!!!
These twin bridges extend in parallel over a gorge, with a several hundred foot drop to the floor. You can walk over the bridges, but they're just a couple of feet wide and it is dizzying. Very cool spot, though. You can get most of the way there in a normal car, and then you have to hike maybe 1/4 mile (easy hiking) to the bridges. Worth a stop if you're over near Dead Horse Point etc. off Hwy. 313.
We were mountain biking the Mag 7 trail. We always stop here for a break. The bridges are beautiful and scary at the same time - you are up VERY high!
Gemini Bridges is on a 4 wheel drive road that is fun in itself. You arrive at the bridges area and there are plenty of people around but you don't see anything really. As you walk out to the area where the bridges are (about 7 minutes) you notice that everyone is looking down. The area under you had been eroded and the bridges are level with the land and the open area under the bridges is hollow. I felt comfortable walking across the bridges if I stayed in the middle, you would really not want to get to close to the edge. I want to find the road we could see that goes into the hollow under the bridges.
Since there's no specific attraction for the Magnificent 7 set of trails, will leave my review here here since it incorporates part of the Gemini Bridges trail. If you're into technical, super fun mtn bike trails, Mag 7 is a must! My new favorite trail in the Moab area. It's best done as a shuttle, leaving one car at the Gemini Bridges or Portal trailhead. Just miles & miles of twisting turning, up & down trail w/ incredible views. You can also go do some warm up riding at Dead Horse State Park ($2 entry fee for bikes) before heading down Mag 7.
Gemini Bridges is North of Moab. It is an easy off-road trail. You should have some type of SUV to get there. There is a more difficult trail to see Gemini from below but you should have a well equipped 4x4 to get there.
My husband and his biking buddies have biked Gemini Bridges several times as it it is one of their favorites. This past trip the non-biking hikers in our group hiked in the area and saw the Gemini Bridges. It is quite an interesting amazing rock formation that is definitely worth seeing on a visit to Moab.
What a fab trail, hardly a jeep one at all; what a sight, Utah s filled with amazing sites. I plan t go back hen the weather s better next time in Moab
Awesome views but be careful on and around the Bridges could be a very nasty fall! It was a stinking hot day when I went but it was only a short (800m approx) hike from carpark to the Bridges.
Fantastic views, great ride, not to busy, one of my great rides with new friends and old. Spook sign at op of jeep rider who died!
