Beautiful hike, great arch, little stream running through the canyon with multiple crossings. Good Day to be out and about.
We chose this trail because we were visiting the area with dogs and needed a good exercise spot for them and scenic hike for us. We found this to be an excellent hike for our foursome: Few people on the trail, dogs enjoyed the water and smells, and humans enjoyed the scenery. Pet waste bags were available at the trail head, and, unlike many other trails, it was clear that most other dog owners used the bags. (You will need to pack out all waste.) Relatively easy trail until you reach the short leg to the arch, which requires a small bit of scrambling. (Total round trip = four to five miles.) Although the arch isn't as obvious as those in Arches NP, it was beautiful nonetheless--and a much more peaceful experience. The stream is clear and cool along the hike. The beautiful tan and terra cotta canyon walls would provide good shade in summer. Although the trail requires several stream crossings, our hiking boots kept our feet dry. Once we left the parking area, we heard little else other than birds and the running stream. A lovely hike for most ages, humans and dogs alike. We would highly recommend. Note: If you are interested in complete solitude, we would suggest visiting in the morning in winter; in the earlier part of our hike, we saw few people, but numbers increased later in the day.
Okay, we've been on this trail many, many times. This last time it was super hot. Thankfully, there was water in the stream and we waded in the water a lot to cool off. It's a bit of a hike for most folks, we also had young kids along, but well worth the hike. Well maintained trail.
This hike is pretty easy but beautiful. It wouldn't be hard to take small children on since it is relatively flat. Just keep in mind that you do cross the river several times on your way out to the arch. The hike is beautiful and it's fairly shaded so it would be nice to do on a sunny day. Also this is one of the few trails that allows dogs on it.
The Negro Bill Canyon trail is a good choice on a hot day when the sun is burning up hikers on many of the popular trails in Arches NP. Although hot at midday when the sun is high, it is relatively cool in the morning or afternoon when the sun is behind the canyon walls. There are a few mildly challenging portions which might impede some hikers, but it is generally easy. Multiple stream crossings add interest and the visit to Morning Glory Bridge at the end of the trail is enjoyed by all. Recommend.
Lots of water so you will likely get your feet wet. Also lots of dogs, which is fun. Water at the end and an arch that lots of people were repelling down. Good walk.
We've been doing this trail for nearly a decade. It offers beautiful scenery and moderate challenges. The toughest part are the frequent crossings over the creek which can be fairly high after rain. There are several really nice views of cliffs and arches and it's not scorching hot except in high season. I've taken my then 1-year-old and my teens and all have enjoyed it.
Three of us (ages 60+) had no problem on the relatively flat trek to the arch at trail's end. It was fun traversing the shallow stream as we moved along the trail. There are several places to soak your feet in the water along the way. Kids could even go for a swim in the shallow water. (At least it was shallow in October.) There is even a geocache at the end to find if you are so inclined.
Loved this hike!Good fairly easy hike but did get a little challenging at the last 10 mins but very worthwhile.Take a camera for the scenery and lens changes if you're a semi-pro!Remember water, it was very hot here even in late September.
This easy hike follows a stream most of the way. Watch for poison ivy along the streambed. The arch at the end of the trail is spectacular.
Dog Friendly! This hike is Fantastic! Fairly Flat with a couple of spots where you need to climb over or up some rocks. It follows a stream up to its source so plan to get wet feet. Great little wading pools along the way. After 2.5 miles you reach a weeping wall beneath a natural arch. The Morning Glory Arch. Its stream flows directly into the main channel of the Colorado River within Moab Canyon. 10 out of 10!
Walking in this canyon was my favorite place in Moab. It is absolutely gorgeous. Long hike but not strenuous. Be sure to bring extra shoes and socks since it is difficult not to get wet crossing the stream numerous times.
we got there early in the day, so parking wasn't an issue. A nice walk along creek & sometimes sandy trail, so bring footware that you don't mind getting wet. The trail ends at a pool / arch where you can cool off in the shade and watch folks repelling down from above. Can get crowded as it's a popular trail close to camping and town, and you might get stuck behind a group of slower moving hikers
This was a quick 4 mile round trip hike that was easy to do. During the summer months it might be busy, but in Nov. we were the only ones on the trail and at the Morning Glory arch.
This trailhead is located a short distance from town on the South side of Rte 28. Its 2 or 3 miles in length one-way. It crosses the creek numerous times and is partially shaded but gets pretty hot in the summer. Good hike for dogs. There is a partial arch and spring at the end. Not very difficult and well marked.
