This wasn't a bad experience, but it wasn't as fun as past trail rides we've had but we suspect that's because it was very muddy and we were told (while we were on the trail) our horses didn't like walking in the mud and would do almost anything to stay out of it. Most of the time, they stayed on the trail or close to it. They kept losing their footing and we had to stay alert for tree branches and trees as the horses would go right up next to them with your leg in the way. It wasn't the horses fault, of course, But they seemed to want to do their own thing. Not too big of deal until he lost his footing off the trail and I almost fell off and banged my knee. Another woman on the ride also had a gash on her leg. We signed a waiver. We knew the risks. It would have been nice if the young guide would have told us more about the area, the horses, the stable, but it was really only her leading us. She would answer if we asked (the horses are rescues or purchased at auction). We felt sorry for the horses. They did not enjoy today's ride.
We enjoyed our ride at JuRo Stables. The horses were very personable, but seemed very tired. We were told that they didn't like the mud they had to walk in. We liked that they were all rescues. We would have liked to get some history from the trail guide about the horses, property, Tennessee, etc.
First of all, these folks have a beautiful location that is really easy to get to from virtually anywhere near Nashville (Franklin included). I called the evening before I wanted to ride and left a message, fully expecting to not receive a call until the next morning. What a wonderful surprise that my call was returned after 7pm to chat about a ride the next day. I did not know whether I wanted to do a group ride or go with a guide solo (I was traveling along), but they were very accommodating and let me know I could make my decision when I arrived in the morning. The day was beautiful and perfect for a nice ride, so pulling into the stables was a treat. Everyone was very helpful and welcoming - just what you expect in the South. I was asked if I made my decision for group or solo and still did not know. There was a group of 14 going out, and I was by myself. After a few minutes of chatting with the staff, I decided to go solo, which was the BEST decision ever. After describing my riding experience, I was paired with a beautiful horse, Lucy and we were off into the woods surrounding the stables. It was stunning to ride in such a beautiful area, and my guide was beyond wonderful. He not only showed me the area, but took the time to show me some new riding skills. He was beyond wonderful, and I have made a life-long friend in this guide. I cannot wait to return to Juro Stables, and will absolutely start / finish my next trip to the area here - it is the best way to get settled into the area, and the best way to say goodbye. I loved every moment, I loved my guide, I loved my horse Lucy and I loved the memories. Thank you so much Juro Stables. I will see you again soon!By the way, these are working stables and it is my understanding that the majority of the horses here are rescues. Please support these wonderful people in doing great work by taking care of these beautiful creatures. Again, these are stables - while there is a port-a-potty, that is your restroom. Nothing fancy, but more than gets the job done! :-)
The staff was so friendly, knowledgable, and eager to make you feel comfortable no matter your riding level. Molly was coordinating while Suzanna guided our tour. You get taken through beautiful feilds, lavish forest trails and more.I rode Dutchess the diva, while my two friends rode Patch and BabyDoll (who has a mind of her own) but, she's sweet and warms up after a while. You're allowed to feed the horses (carrots) after your tour, and most of the horses are RESCUED! The tour guides are VOLUNTEERS. I capitalize this because there isn't any of this info on the groupon special. So expect an amazing ride, and tip them well!
My husband and I wanted to spend a leisurely morning riding so a Groupon looked ideal. When we went, the guide didn't ask us about our level of experience, the trails were extremely wet (which we didn't know until we got on them) and we weren't told that the horses would NOT stay on the trails in an effort to avoid walking through the mud. They (HORSES) ran us through the trees and I was injured by a tree that bruised my leg as the horse forced me off the trail. The worst was later when the horse tried to cross a ravine and slipped in the mud that was knee deep in areas and slammed me into their overgrown trees trying to regain his own balance. There was a branch that someone had broken off that deeply punctured through my jaw. The guide told me she'd call a 4-wheeler to get me out because she said I couldn't ride in my condition, but it was so muddy that it too got stuck in the mud so we were forced to walk out with my face profusely bleeding. Eventually the owner met us with a truck that he could hardly get out through the mud and even though I was covered in blood and the horse was covered in blood, he told me "aw, it isn't that bad". After 4 hours in ER, 12 sutures, severe bruises, an infection and antibiotics and hospitalization, I called the stable and spoke to owner to ask permission to look at the trails where it happened. She was extremely rude, defensive and proceeded to tell me that I signed a waiver and that it was MY decision to ride under those conditions (as if I would have any idea as a novice that the trails were unsuitable to ride and that the horses would put us in danger!) She didn't care that I was hurt and sharply said "if you want to see it you can rent a horse!" She also told me that they were protected by TN law and became defensive about being sued. This business can be very dangerous to the novice if the terrain is unsuitable. It was too wet, muddy, owner admitted he was behind in putting a mulch-like covering due to the rain. It is likely to give others a horrific experience as it did us. The worst part is they told us we could bring our 5 year old son. If he had been on that horse, he would likely have been the one to be punctured in the head and could have died. Not an exaggeration. DO NOT BRING YOUR CHILDREN!! BAD BAD EXPERIENCE! Unbelievably poor and rude customer service. Unless you are an experienced rider, avoid this "attraction" at all costs!
We regularly like to go horseback riding while on vacation. We actually found a Groupon which brought us to Juro Stables. We had a 10 am ride with a group of about 8. The staff was friendly, the horses appeared to be very well taken care of (despite what an earlier reviewer said) and the price was right. We went in June when it was already sort of hot so I can only imagine that the horses would sweat more as summer goes by. It's Tennessee. I personally spoke with the one guide who told me how they only work for tips (not that she was hinting) so that the money they would get can go towards the horses' care. I would definitely recommend Juro Stables for singles or families.
From the JURO website: " Horseback riding for the serious minded rider or serious minded beginner / Pace & tack to suit rider / No set trails / Excellent selection of riding stock" The JURO website claims many things, including an interesting ride, one where the riders can go into open fields and step up the pace if they want. They claim the horses aren't 'barn sour.' On the Groupon offering, they even talked about the trail guides giving interesting talks about the history of the area. NONE of this was true! First, the trails are narrow, muddy, winding, and we were told to ride in single file, EVEN during the short time we were in an open field. The horses are tired, and there was no 'choosing' your ride, or even the type of saddle, Western or English. You got what they gave, period. As for the guides, there was no talk of history or any talk at all, other than ours telling the person behind her all about her upcoming plans for a trip, etc. ALL WE DID FOR AN HOUR WAS TO SIT ON THESE POOR OLD WORN OUT HORSES AND WALK, SINGLE FILE, THROUGH MUDDY, TREE-STUMP FILLED TRAILS. Seriously, the trails were filled with tree stumps maybe 6" above the ground, and the horses had to dodge those. The vines were everywhere, and one lady actually got cut on her face. The mud and deep furrows in some areas had the horses slipping. I think this is a terrible way to treat any animaI. I wouldn't go back to JURO if they offered me free rides for life. Also, when I'd called to make the reservation, the woman who answered was VERY rude, short with me, and really acted as if she was doing me a favor. She was nowhere to be found when we got there, just a group of young volunteers, who, they say, work for tips. The only way I can see anyone enjoying this is if they've never ridden, and simply don't know any better.
I found Juro on Groupon, but they could not do a private ride for the Groupon price. I wanted a private ride because when we went to Natchez two years ago it was a large group, and this time it was a birthday present for my fiance. I told Juro on the phone that I wanted a private ride so we could go a little faster and have a little more freedom etc. What we got was a 99% woods trail, and despite asking to ride in the open areas I was told the horses were too tired. I basically paid $100 to ride two tired horses in follow the leader formation at the same speed as you ride a pony when you're a child through the trees. The trail was indeed pretty and quite relaxing due to the great weather around 7pm, and our guide was a very nice young girl that made conversation with us. But, all of that was mostly ruined for me because of how much I paid and not getting what I was told I would get.Overall, if you pay $25 to ride and it is your first time, this should be a blast for you. If you've ever ridden before or want a more unique experience do not pay a penny more, and actually probably go to Natchez. That place was a blast.
I am sorry I ever participated in the misery of these horses. They looked exhausted and sweaty, and were left tied and standing in the mid-day sun with saddles on. I saw one being saddled with OBVIOUS sores on his back. If this is what I saw, imagine what I didn't see. The feeling is that they're throw away animals, there only to provide a living. Sad.
I had never been horseback riding before and it was really great! My horse wanted to take her own path a lot which left a few scrapes from tree branches but nothing serious. It was great being out in nature. The trail was nice, a little muddy, but it was really a nice way to spend a few hours. Everyone there was really nice and you could tell they loved the animals and wanted us to have a good time. I would definitely recommend Juro Stables.
I wanted to go riding as I hadn't been in awhile and this was the first stable that popped up on google. What mostly drew me to this stables was that on the website it said you could trot and canter. When calling, the owner took down my reservations and answered my questions and I didn't get the same attitude from most of the reviewers although she wasn't the most friendly person I've ever spoken to, but it certainly didn't hold me back at all from booking a reservation. We were booked for the 1:30 ride but I called at noon asking to change it to later in the evening due to the heat. They were fine with that & we switched to 6:00pm. When talking to the owner, she recommended that we do a private ride since it would give us more of a chance to trot and canter so we decided to do that. When we arrived we were asked if we could have one other guy come on our ride but they told us if we really didn't want him to he didn't have to. I was annoyed at first because I thought that the price should have been dropped but honestly it worked out as he was an experienced rider like myself & my partner wasn't at all so it was fine. He even gave my partner tips since it was only his 2nd time on a horse. The trail was a bit muddy but the scenery was beautiful. We got to trot quite a few times and even got to canter a good distance, which I LOVED! Taking lessons for most of my whole life, trail rides are BORRRING. My partner on the otherhand didn't feel comfortable trotting and the guide had him walk up the hill ahead of us while we did our fun run. I had no problem with the horses. My horse Cinnamon did try to lead me into some trees once but was able to be corrected and listened to me without much fuss. To those complaining about the activity of the horses misbehaving..they are animals with their own mind. I would recommend when making your reservation make sure that they know you are a beginner or scared, whatever so they can match you with the appropriate horse. I am very glad we did a "private" ride vs the group ride since the group who got back before we started had around ten people! All in all, I didn't have a problem with the place and had a great time! I would go back in the future. It's the only trail barn I've ever been to that has allowed me to canter and do our own thing in a way. About the tipping, the only time they mentioned it was when we swipped our cards to pay. She asked if we wanted to put our tip on it. I told her we had cash for the tip and they left it like that (We tipped our guide 20 bucks) OH!! I also got to ride English!
We have 3 small children and took them riding... We were able to double up with our 3 & 2 year old and our 5 year old was able to ride with an instructor... The 5 year old could of rode by herself, but we chose to let her ride with an instructor since she had never done it before and they said the horse we used were not so great for kids! They were honest and we appreciate that!
Do not listen to the any bad reviews on Juro stables. I went with 3 friends. I ride but they are novices. I asked for a spirited horse which they were more than happy to give me. I rode Baby doll, shes small but a little wizz. I wanted to have a gallop So was sent off on my own round a loop to have a gallop on my own ,while the guide, Mike , walked with the other 3. Very enjoyable. Always wanted to ride western style & loved every minute. Mike looked after us very well, very friendly & chatty. As was everyone at the stables, so we can't understand the bad reviews at all. Very good value too. Just $25 each for the hour. Which was a nice amount of time. Would definetly recommend & we are loving our holiday in down town Nashville. When we return we will go back to juro!
The horses are mean, most of the staff is unfriendly, and the barn manager is rude. Our guide was was a nice guy, but nothing was going to salvage my money. There are much better stables around, that obviously treat there horses better.
So, we went to Nashville and had contacted the Juro stables about a trek. On the phone and on arriving they were all lovely and very professional while also informal. The trek through the woods was beautiful and the wildlife that we saw on the way would take your breath away. So to begin with, yes I did enjoy it.However, just a few things,on the trek which was nice and relaxing, I personally found the guide to be very lacking, not an ounce of conversation from her, she appeared dis interested and was on her phone for the duration of the trek. I would not say I am an experienced rider but I am able to trot, canter etc. and I would have liked to have had a little one of either to break up the monotonous of just a slow walk throughout and to create a little excitement. So the lack of that and the fact that our guide didn't even bother to even say good morning really annoyed me, it appeared to me that she obviously didn't want to be there. Saying that, I do hope this isn't the case with all the guides as another group passed and the guide with them said more to all of us in the 10 seconds as she passed then our one did for the hour and a half.
