Great Scenery, we watched kyakers go over the smaller falls, great riding for the bicylers and motorcycles.
The falls and surrounding area is beautiful. You can swim in the pools of the falls. Also if you enjoy hiking there are trails up the side of the falls and runs for mikes along the river.
This is one of the most beautiful places in the area! There are many waterfalls in the Smoky Mountains, but this one can be seen without hiking, You can stand on the bridge and view this spectacular waterfall. If you tour the Cherohala Skyway be sure to take a slight detour to Bald River Falls!
If you are anywhere near the area, this is a must see! It is gorgeous! In winter, if you are lucky, you may see it frozen. There is a nice hiking trail there as well.
After seeing some pictures of frozen waterfalls we decided to visit bald River Falls. What an amazing sight!!!! It was a cold day but well worth the trip. Beautiful waterfalls partially frozen the sides with mist ice all over. Great views you can stand on the bridge directly in front or take a short path up to the top. Also had a small area with picnic tables to sit and have a snack or lunch picnic. Cannot wait to go back in the summer to see the full effect. Highly highly recommend.
Please. please go to the Bald River Falls The Bald River is a major tributary of Tellico River. Just before it empties into the Tellico RIver, Bald River runs over a large waterfall, Bald River Falls (pictured above and to the right), reported to be from 80-100 feet tall. The falls are easily visible from a bridge across the river, on the scenic Tellico River Road (FS210), at about 6 miles from its start off the Cherohala Skyway. The falls are considered to be the most impressive and scenic waterfall in East Tennessee. The Bald River is short and powerful, flowing through a steep densely wooded valley and replenished by the area's rains. At the falls, the waters plummet over huge grey rocks, into a round pool at the base, popular for swimming. The Bald River Falls Trail can be reached above the Falls, and follows the Bald River through deciduous forest and over numerous embankments and cascades along the river. It is 5.6 miles to its end on FS126, and is rated as a moderate hike. The Bald River and 3721 acres of its watershed are part of the Bald River Gorge Wilderness, designated as a wilderness area by the US Forest Service.
The 90-ft. high waterfall makes for a perfect photo background. Very easy to see from the road. Notwithstanding how dangerous it is, we observed several adventurous souls gingerly picking their way over the slippery rocks at the base. Be sure to stop at the busy Visitors' Center. Take your time and enjoy a leisurly drive over scenic, winding roads. For anglers, the Tellico River is purported to be a premier trout location.
This was just gorgeous and you don't have to hike to see it. Enjoy the twisty road though to get there.
Be sure to atop at visitors center for map of the skyway to take full advantage of this magnificent scenic drive. Falls are easy to access, even for handicapped. A short hike takes you to the top of the falls which has a well cared for path.
Absolutely beautiful! Great for those who have little ones or are not able to do a lot of walking or hiking as you can see from the road if necessary. Recorded the sound of the falls to be able to play back when having a stressful day - so soothing!
While most people will start with the Cherohala Skwy this road is the unsung hero. This is a scenic drive along the creek with multiple spots to pull over. A few miles in you will come to the Bald River Falls which is a popular spot to take pictures. Keep on going and you eventually run out of pavement and onto gravel and dirt roads. This is where the real beauty begins.
These falls are a great start to the trip down the Skyway. Lots of photo ops here. The creek along the road to the falls is beautiful as well!
Bald River Falls is a must. The drive to the falls was very beautiful. We missed peak season but there was still some beautiful color.
The falls are beautiful and worth the drive if you would like to see something pretty. The drive along the way to the falls has many pretty picture opportunities as well.
We visited in October and the weather was so nice and the falls were gorgeous! Its a great family get away for fall break.
