It was just our 4 kids ranging from 15-7, my husband and I, and our guide Jeremy. No one fell out of the boat, we had fun in the rapids, and the lunch was very nice (we weren't sure quite what to expect). The weather became quite windy and our boat was actually going back up the river, but our guide was funny, kept the kids entertained, and gave us a good workout at the end. I would recommend this trip to anyone with family. We were looking for some fun in the water while being safe, and this was definitely it.
Lauren & Otto have a great outfit going out there on the river. They always are so friendly and helpful while accommodating so many people's different needs on the river. We took my girlfriend's parents out to experience Duckies on the river and they had a blast. Top notch group and several great options on the river from which to choose. Thanks!
Our tour was fairly mild with little or no rapids because of the low water level of the river. This didn't stop our guide from making the most out of it with stories and jokes. Our guide, Jeremy, was also very knowledgeable and answered any questions put forth. We also saw some amazing scenery and wildlife. A bald eagle grabbed a fish out of the river right in front of us and flew up to a tree to eat. Wow. Everyone at the raft shack was friendly & helpful and for a romping good time, they keep a good collection of tennis balls so you can play with the shop dog, Ruby. We will probably go again next few year and hope the water level is higher.
Beautiful scenery and a very entertaining guide made for a great tour down the Upper Colorado. The prices can't be beat and I couldn't imagine a better first time on a raft with two kids, ages 8 and 10. The rapids were mild and didn't scare the kids, but were still fun and we got wet on a few of them. If I had more time I would go back and try the solo inflatable kayak and travel further down the river...|Maybe next year!!!
After the scenic drive along Route 1 Trough Road, you come to a place for your Colorado river adventure. Worth the trip and the pricing is great. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable
We drove from Vail (about 30-45 min drive) eager and a little anxious to try kayaking in the river. We have been kayaking before but never in rapids. The CRC advertised that this was Class I and II rapids, perfectly safe for beginners. Being the most fearful in the water, I was anxious. The guides/employees gave us a quick safety talk and then launched us into the river. We started out with calm water which then went to Class I and then Class II rapids. I enjoyed my experience and employed my knowledge of how to kayak while in the rapids. At first it was a little harrowing but mostly a great experience.I used a 'duckie' (inflatable kayak) and my husband used the sit on top kayak. We both would recommend our kayak.Everything we needed was included in our cost ($37/person)--water shoes, dry bag, etc...We did the two mile trip where they launch you and then you call them to come pick you up when you finish (there is a phone at the end, where you get out).I would recommend this center. There is a small general store there, on the grounds. They sell candy, water, and sodas (and alcoholic beverages).
The friendly staff was fun and knowledgeable of the river and area. The price was better than any other rafting company in the area and did the same stretch of river – the only difference was that I had to drive myself to the rafting spot. The guides had jokes for the kids and made the trip very enjoyable. The bathrooms are port-a-potties but they also have a bath house near the main entrance of Rancho that was nice and clean. We played Rodeo which is where the boat spins around and you stand on the front trying to hold on – lots on fun! We saw 4 bald eagles which was very exciting. I would recommend this rafting company over any other rafting companies in the Vail and Steamboat area - it's the best bang for your buck and kid friendly.
