Beautiful views of the water and the mountains. Despite being a busy time (Saturday afternoon) there are enough places that you are able to have a few moments of peace and quiet on your own if that is what you are looking for.

So we drove this route heading towards Steamboat and you see the typical car jam with everyone pulled over on the side of the road and this was probably inside the city limits. So armed with the big camera - we hike over to see what all the fuss is about. So maybe a stones throw from the side of the road is a MOOSE - and it's a big moose. Didn't seem to mind everyone watching it eat and snapping photos. There was a volunteer ranger on the side of the road answering questions and making sure everyone was safe and not trying to risk a close up with wildlife. This was late in the afternoon so we thought that was our shot. The next morning we took the same route back and apparently the leaves and grasses were very tasty because the Big Moose was back. We've traveled far and wide, searching marsh areas and tried with limited success in getting a moose shot. Who would have guessed it would be in Colorado, right along the highway and I was able to get a decent shot with an iPhone - hubby with the monster camera got the gnats and mosquitos that were buzzing the poor things face. Drove through town, stopped by the visitor center and looks like a fun place. Would likely consider staying here next time.

I loved this place: The rangers and volunteers had a special education fair (Friday, September 12th). In addition, they had arts and crafts for children. Thank you for your efforts to help us understand this precious environment.

Looking for trails and recommendations on where we could hike, and take some 4x4 drives, we received quick answers to our questions and some good recommendations. The only possible concern was the recommendation that we take CR4 from hwy 34 over to hwy 40 across stillwater pass. A great trip, definitely a 4x4 road, even though I did see a car on the trip. Had a thunder storm while on the pass. If you have never experience a thunderstorm in Colorado mountains, you have really missed something. Listening to the thunder echo across the canyons is awesome. The trip was about 40 miles long and took about 3 hours. Just what we were looking for. Good clean facility, I liked the water fountain that allowed us to fill the water bottles easily. Just put the bottle under the spout and the water automatically filled without you having to hold the button with one hand while trying to handle the bottle with the other. Little things like this are nice.

While in the area visiting a friend, my daughter and I had the opportunity to sample several of the local places to eat and it started with a trip to the visitor center. The lady in there was super helpful and extremely nice. They had tons of information on the town and some of the area attractions. Stop in, grab a map if the town, and get ready to have some fun. I cannot wait to return to Grand Lake, CO.

I only need directions to Adam's Falls which was about 2 miles away, but the staff wouldn't let me leave until they had mapped out the route, given me tips for the hike, showed me landmarks along the way to guide me, and fill me with a smile. Even if you are not lost you should stop in and say hi. Every wall from floor to ceiling is packed with information. If you don't know what to do while in Grand Lake then definitely stop by the visitor center and they will fill your agenda for you.

We stopped in because we wanted to know if there was a trail around the lake (there isn't), but the helpful lady steered us to Monarch Lake, a slight drive away. We were glad she did; the hike was everything she said it would be. Plenty of pamphlets and information on the area in addition, plus phone books for your use if you need them. A worthwhile stop for us.

Very friendly, and well stocked with info about the area. Lots of good info to be had on all the fun activities in this gorgeous litle town and surrounding area.

What a wonderful town this is at the Southern edge of Rocky Mountain National Park. There is a lot of history here and some of the cabins are mostly original from the 1800's. They have been updated for our convenience.Make sure you take the walking tour of town and see the old buildings. The wooden sidewalks make a person feel as though they are back in time. The lakefront and beach are beautiful and there is the original boathouseon the lake. Take your time and enjoy the surroundings. The museum (located near the lakefront) is an original home from the 1800's.Enjoy your visit.

The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. With the floods, RMNP was closed. So we came in looking for other hikes. He pointed us in the right direction and we had a great hike. The facility is very clean and full of info on the local area. This is a great first stop when you come into town; and as it is right there when you arrive, it makes sense to stop.

The ladies staffing the visitor center the day we stopped in offered many interesting suggestions for our day in Grand Lake. They asked about our interests, provided us with maps, brochures and booklets about the town and pointed out the coupons available for discount prices available for many of the attractions. As a result, we thoroughly enjoyed our visit!

We stopped at the Visitor Center to ask directions for a picnic place on the lake. The gentleman working was very informative and kind. We left with a couple of maps and recommendations for everything from hiking to local restaurants! Great place to stop in and get information while you're in the area.
