Had a really fun ride with our guide Sarah. This is a must do on a CO trip. Thanks for the good time!
We were booked for a late summer two hr morning ride and it turned out to be 50 degrees, rainy and cloudy. None of those conditions hurt our wonderful morning with Dale and Heather who assisted him. We were individually introduced to our horses and given some bonding time. Dale didn't overdo the instructions but gave us the basics and relied more on the learn~ as~ you~go method, which worked perfectly for us. The horses Oops, Drifter and Peanut were clearly well cared for, patient & familiar w the area. Dale was laid back & knowledgeable, hands on & rt away recognized we could laugh at ourselves! He even got away with teasing the 15 yr old who had not been happy to wake up early on vacation. His calm self assuredness gave us confidence in our own abilities with the horses, even as beginners. Picture a Hollywood Cowboy and Dale should come to mind. He is exactly what a cowboy should act and look like! Heather, assisting him, felt like family when we left. We were all sad to leave them after our ride. We never were on a trail so it felt like we were trail blazing. If you are looking for an organized straight trail ride w a rehearsed speech in a tourist kind of setting - this is NOT the ride for you. The time of year with limited part time workers only offered the 2 hr ride, which was a bummer bc I'd like to try Dale's dinner or all day ride. We heard Dale's quite the chef which should surprise no one bc clearly if he has his pliers along, he can do pretty much anything. Dale will give you a price discount if you pay in cash. We'll definitely go back someday .

Being that my wife, Fran, and I are novice riders, we chose to do a one hour ride. Our guide was Dale. He is simply the finest guide we've had. He is not only fun to ride and talk with, but he is informative and very attentive to any impediment one might have to fully enjoying a ride. He stops to make sure everything is o.k. What can one say but that riding a horse in the mountains of Colorado is a thrilling experience. When in Granby, we are certain to ride with Dale once again.
This wasn't the typical get on a horse, and follow the horse in front of you, tail to nose. Instead, two of us took off with Dale across country, through streams, through pine and aspen forests to the mountain top. Dale was really informative, telling us about the history, plants and trees and geology. We've been on many trail rides, but this was by far the most enjoyable. We'll definitely be back.
Our family of eight had a wonderful two-hour trail ride on July 12, 2014. Our group varied from experienced riders to novice, young riders and we all had fun. Plan on seeing some gorgeous country, walking through streams and just taking in some beauty while on horseback. Thank you Dale!!
On my week long vacation to Granby, CO I had the pleasure of going on a cattle drive with High Country Trails. Everything about my day was amazing! I had no idea what a satisfying experience pushing cows could be. Everyone I met during my experience was kind, happy, and engaged in the process of moving the cows from the ranch to the water hole on the mountain. My horse Oopsy knew exactly what to do and was a pleasure to ride. He was such a sweet horse I was comfortable when my 3 year old son had a ride (with a lead) on him after the cattle drive. Dale and Sarah were competent, warm and fun to spend time with. I highly recommend High Country Trails. I can't wait to go again!
We travel to Colorado from Florida every summer to enjoy the snow capped mountains and the many other summer attractions. We stay for several weeks at various resorts. We enjoy horseback riding at each location. Dale, the owner operator has some of the best trained horses and the best guides to explore the many up and down trails on his many acres with varied terrain. His rates are reasonable and he will tailor your ride based on your experience. Check him out.
My husband and I were visiting the area for the first time and were looking for a horse tour. High Country Trails as suggested to us by the person at the front desk where we were staying. We are so happy that she did! Dale was an excellent guide. We are not experienced riders but he made us feel very comfortable with our horses and took on an amazing tour which we will always remember. If we are in the area again we will definitely be stopling by for another tour.
We were on a 30 day tour of USA by train and the highlight of our trip was the horse ride with High Country Trails. We were 4 and we had two guides, Dale & Sarah and a helper, Clarence, who was coming along to help clear the trails since it was the first ride of the season. First we saw a cinnamon coloured black bear, then a golden eagle. We rode up steep trails to the top of the mountain to get a 360 degree view of the snow-capped mountain ranges on all sides. Our 4 hour trek turned into 7 hours because we offered to go the long way down and help with trail clearing. We were all totally zonked at the end of the day. I don't know how the guides could keep working, looking after the horses, when we got back to the barn. The views were magnificent, the beautiful green of the aspen trees mixed in with the coniferous trees. The horses were all well behaved. I guess our only drawback was that the "cowboy lunch" consisted of white bread with a slice of turkey & ham, an apple, a bottle of water and tootsie rolls. In my mind, I was thinking a 'cowboy lunch' would be a little bit more than that, but then again, who knows what a cowboy would have for lunch. I would 100% recommend this trip and this outfitter. They were friendly and cheerful with titbits of information along the way.
This was the highlight of our trip. My wife and I travelled to Denver and had several things on our agenda. With the recent flooding in Estes and Boulder were sure we'd be able to accomplish a trail ride on our trip. Dale was great to work with and even on the short notice had us booked. The 2 hour drive from Denver was well worth the experience, as Dale's experience and friendly demeanor made for a relaxed and personal ride. It was like riding with and old friend. The horses were well cared for and responded well. The ride was breath taking as we climbed up through the Aspen tress and into the pine forests, stopping here and there to take in the wildlife and amazing scenery. Can't thank Dale enough for the great time.
I agree with Amber C's review with one difference being I'm a fairly experienced horse person. My 11 year old daughter and I went for a 3 hr ride in June as we enjoy trail riding and don't currently have good trail horses. As noted it is just a stable on the side of the road which we missed the first time and had to turn around to find it. The horses were well cared for and staff is very friendly and helpful. After questions about our experience and interests we set off. Our guide (not Dale but I forgot her name) was very good and knew the area well pointing out views and landmarks. The horses were well behaved but it wasn't the boring nose to tail formation with a set trail and lots of people (I found Amber's comparison to an amusement park ride apt). I highly recommend High Country Trails for a nice "real" trail ride with amazing views and pleasant company.
