Nice museum - gives a great overview of the area and, in particular, the mining history. Great for kids and adults alike.
Stunning old photos.....lots of interesting items.Worth the time. My sister got me a copy of the ladywrapped in white gauze (don't know how she managed)but it graces my bathroom to this day. Fabulous!
I was impressed with the amount of mining history in the small visitor center. The employees were nice and it was worth a quick stop in this small town.
I always like to stop in at visitors centers and visit with the folks there. Usually it an older person who is truly interested in their town and history and wants to share their knowledge with anyone who will listen. Take the small tour drop in a few bucks in the jar, you can't go wrong.
We arrived in Idaho Springs a bit earlier than the meeting time so we decided to visit. It's compact yet full of information on the history of mining in CO esp during the gold rush days. It's free but donations are welcome.
The little museum at the visitors center in Idaho Springs provides more history and interesting facts then its modest look might indicate. Admission is free, although you can spare a few dollars for the donation box and you know it. The museum brings together artifacts and history of the town, mining, and even the environmental effects going forward. I learned a great deal about the Native Americans who occupied the area, how mining was done when the town was founded, the improvements and changes over the years, what we know now about how the environment was effected, and how this has been addressed.
