There are too many panhandlers and for a smallish urban experience it shouldn't feel so smarmy. There is a lot of retail, a lot of restaurants, some buskers of varied skill levels. Parking is difficult, not much to do if you don't have money and the pressure to conform to the self conscious faux non-conformance of Boulder street life is annoying. It belongs in a fakey theme park called Hippieland or Groovywood. It wasn't invented here and the commercial insistence on keeping this going is oh-so-very establishment. I would actually rather go to the mall up the highway. Pearl Street Mall should be allowed to evolve into something that is relevant today. I suppose there are some good pipe and smoking shops along Pearl Street, but if you're into that why spend the marked up $$?
Nice bars, atmosphere. Comes to live during Friday and Saturday nights. My favorite eateries are Japango, Boulder Cafe, Old chicago and Pasta Jay.
Pearl Street has an eclectic mixture of shopping opportunities, most with a local flavor, rather than larger chain stores. I loved the Klein Smith art gallery, small boutique dress shops and excellent restaurants. Most of the cross roads have been blocked off, so walking up - down, and side-to-side is easy and safe. A very fun place to look, even if you aren't shopping to buy anything.
This downtown pedestrian mall has an interesting mix of local and chain shops to browse in. We did find that it tends to open a bit later in the day and some spots are not open until 11AM. The streetscape is nicely landscaped and includes a wide variety of sculptures to look at. In nicer weather there are usually a wide range of buskers performing to keep you entertained. Restaurants range from a multitude of coffee shops, to interesting cafes, to various national/regional chains. All in all the mall is an interesting place to kill a few hours.
So many individual shops and different wares to fill your suitcase with. Superb restaurants on every corner and people pleasant.
Lots of interesting shops, unusual entertainers and a great atmosphere. Spend a few hours wandering around just people watching.
Visited Boulder in February and got hit with a BIG snow storm. That did not slow us down or shut down Pearl Street. The business were all open and greeted us warmly as we ducked into stores to warm up and knock the snow off our heads. But it was also so pretty outside on the street with the quietly falling snow, what a fun day! We've been before on a sunny day, when full of activity, which was also great. Pearl Street is a great place to visit while in Boulder, no matter the weather!
The shopping is unique. The setting is gorgeous. There are plenty of good places to eat and live performers are fun. The lights at Christmas were so festive. Loved being on Pearl Street Mall! It is a must when visiting.
This example of urban planning done right now draws hundreds of thousands of visitors to Boulder annually. Lots of shops and restaurants.
The Pearl Street Mall is a classic tourist draw. It features such small local businesses as Cheesecake Factory, Starbucks, Old Chicago, Free People, Athleta, Crocs, and Billabong. Obviously, I kid. It's a nice walk, but I was far more interested in the actually local stores around the walking mall. There's a bomb skate shop just to the east and an outstanding sushi joint to the north. This is a place to see, but not somewhere to spend a day.
This is what made me fall in love with Boulder. The food is great on pearl and the outdoor mall is so much fun. This is place to go for college kids for the bars the Downer and Press play are fun pool and video game bars. Mountain Sun has the best bar on the mall with good food to go alot. You can taste test all the brewed beer before getting either and great Root beer for the underaged. Bars on Pearl are not suggest for the older crowd lots of college kids and very crowded at times.
The Pearl Street Mall has a little of everything from buscars, to restaurants, to a great bookstore and more.
I happened to be there on a day when it snowed a foot! We were there for the first few inches but it certainly affected the atmosphere. Primarily, it had to be a great deal less traffic than normal, which was fine by me!The pavement is well-kept. There are basement level shops, ground and one storey ups. You'll find several one of a kind restaurants and also chain places. The most fun for me was people-watching and speaking at length with a busker there named Ryan. He plays the handpan. If in Boulder, listen for the sound between a steel drum and soft wind chimes. He's amazing to hear and a fantastic fellow.
Great place to watch all the yo-yo's in Boulder, grab a bite and a pint, and pick up some souvenirs. Parking can be a little tricky, pay to park and don't worry about it, park where you shouldn't and expect a ticket. Great place on the weekends in Summer!
sun is out so much here that it makes a great walk especially in summer with performers and plenty of places to eat and browse.
