This is a wonderful tour on St-Laurence River. There is a one hour tour and a three hours tour. This your we took the one hour tour because we were too busy for more. We visit both canadian and usa side of the river. It is gorgeous. A few years ago, we stop at the Singer Castle and at Bolt Castle. They are both very interresting to visit. You can have an idea by visiting www.boltcastle.com. Enjoy your visit as well as we did.

We came down to Boldt Castle during Thanksgiving weekend. What a gem! We thoroughly enjoyed touring the "castle" and grounds! The restoration work completed thus far is most impressive! Learning about the history of the place is an added bonus. We are looking forward to a return visit in a few years to see what new rooms have been completed.

It's always interesting to walk through an unusual building you don't get to be in everyday. There's a castle in the river at Alex Bay, NY, and the man built it for the woman he loved, though she never got to enjoy it. Meanwhile, it was left to rot but people pitched in to restore and ultimately complete it... Two things that can be less than perfect? One: the weather was cold and rainy in the summertime when I visited-- wished it would have been warm and sunny. Two: the castle was never fully completed and though many rooms have been improved/finished, there are still a lot of undone rooms in it. It's interesting, I suppose, to be able to see what some TLC does to make a room there nice, as opposed to the rooms left unattended for years, which are pretty much stone and dirt and such. Do look for the many, many signatures on certain walls where people left their personal graffiti over the years-- fun to read the names and where they're from and all. Also, a visit to both the very top and the basement of the castle are recommended. Finally, take a walk around the island and see the other buildings there, as well as the fountain and gardens-- it's like a wonderland, even in the cold and rain!

We took cruise thru 1000 Islands and visited Boldt Castle..Great to see this amazing building in the middle of the waters incredible the task to build such great places in the middle of the waters, a great achievement..Highly recommended..

We went off season - October. The fall colors were breathtaking all around the island and the surrounding area. Best part was, we pretty much had the whole place to ourselves and had lots of personal guidance from staff. This is a great way to spend a day, and dream about what it must have been like to be part of this family. Although parts of some of the buildings are not completely restored, it is interesting to see the work being done to return it to its splendor. I am glad that we took the boat ride to the castle and toured all the island. Lovely day!

Interesting "castle" and boathouse... Very nice gardens...Each room is patterned after a "room in a European castle"... So no harmony... But interesting, nevertheless... Especially combined with a St Lawrence River boat cruise

This is a beautiful castle right in the heart of the St. Lawrence Seaway. a story of love and tragedy leaves this legacy for us to view.

Sorry, but I didn't expect there to be a castle here! It's a gorgeous testament to love and architecture. The boat ride was amazing. Don't miss it!

We loved exploring the island. The castle is absolutely beautiful. Loved walking through the newly renovated rooms and hearing all about its history. It is a great place to spend an afternoon.

George Boldt, though an unhappy man, gave to all the lovers of the world a treasure which reminds one of the Taj Mahal in India. The castle he has built on Heart Island for his wife, a castle she never got to se because of her untimely death is fit for a King. The Island itself is set in picturesque surroundings on the Lawrence River, one of the famous Thousand Islands, the source of the famous salad Dressing. It immediately reminds you of the lakes of Windermere in UK or of Zurich.Travelling from Kingston to Heart Island is itself an adventure and a very touristy thing if you are interested in seeing the homes of every famous person born in the Americas. You have Kings, Presidents, Movie Stars, Big Industrialists, Philantrophists.... you name it and you can find their homes here. There is also a tiny piece of land, an island which has a tiny 10 foot bridge which connects not only the two parts of the tiny island but also is the Border between Canada and the US. But aside from the tourist element, it is also a beautiful one hour sail through calm waters, beautiful surroundings and sets the tone to the beautifully landscaped Boldt Island. The Castle itself is done up well, it has been recently restored, and a delight to roam around. Every nook and corner reveals a new thing to admire from the ornate gat festooned with the Deers to the Water tower to the main castle itself.Across the castle is the Boat house of George Boldt and it is a delight to see the different types of crafts stored there in immaculate and ship shape condition.A trip to Bold Castle is a day well spent, and I took back memories which will last a life time.

With family who own a cottage on Murray Isle..I had simply driven by the castle for 20 years, dreaming about entering someday. We'd hear stories of people who snuck into the castle to sign their name on the walls (which you'll see on the top floor) and sit on the roof when it was abandoned. It is beautifully restored, period furniture in each room, gorgeous playhouse on the grounds. Well worth a trip.

Ive been to the Castle several times over the years. This last visit was the best so far because they have now restored almost 4 floors of the Castle as well as working on the basement and walkway underneath the Castle. I have seen the progress from the first floor being undone and filled with grafitti and decay. It is a must see. Please take the time to read the history and sad story surrounding the Castle when you go. You can tour the Castle inside and the grounds as well. I dont know if there is a guided tour...I've never seen one. We have always wandered around at our leisure. There is a snack shack if your hungry on the grounds; as well as a gift shop. :You will see a lot of tour boats docking at the Island because it is a very popular tourist stop. If you've never been, I highly recommend you take one of the boat tours to see the mansions along the St. Lawrence River and listen to the guide. Then you'll be taken over to the Island to see the Castle. Prices are very, very reasonable for what you get. Theres no time limit on some of these tours....until closing of course.Easy walking on the grounds...but theres a lot of stair climbing once inside the Castle. So be prepared for that if you have trouble with climbing. We toured the Yacht House for the first time...this is not the same thing as the boat house thats on the Island ....This is across the water in a separate bldg. Its definitely worth seeing the boats if you like old boats/yatchs...very nice!! There are several in the boat house as well as a small museum. I think this was worth seeing as well. We crossed the 1000 Island Bridge and stopped at a visitor center along the way which was very, very helpful....big signs for it along way to the bridge. You can tour Westley Island as another bonus if you have the time...so there's a lot to do when you visit the Castle.

We reached the castle by ferry and it was a wonderful trip over to the island. The castle itself is awesome with plenty of see at every turn. The gardens were beautiful and it was a real pleasure to wander around taking in the sights. Certainly worth a visit.
