The DAR really needs to be commended on their renovation and maintenance of Madam Brett's Homestead. The Homestead is impeccably kept including the garden out back but I would wish that the locals would stop using the front lawn for their dogs. We had the pleasure of having Anne as our decent and we enjoyed our tour immensely. Anne is incredibly well versed re: the Homestead and even made a special accommodation (appointment) so that we could see the house on a Sunday. Please keep in mind you will be touring two floors and at least ten rooms so apportion enough time and be prepared to walk stairs ...When in beacon, try to combine Madam Brett's Homestead with Mount Gulian and VanWyck Homestead if possible. All are within minutes of each other by car.....

The Madam Brett Homestead is extremely well-maintained by the Daughters of the American Revolution. The tour was very interesting and informative. Good for anyone looking for a change of pace from the many modern art galleries (they get kind of boring after a while imho). Definitely very family friendly (probably better for kids over age 10 as there is historical furniture that you're not supposed to sit on or touch).

The docent provided us with an interesting tour (about an hour) on a 2nd Saturday open house. The house is full of real history and artifacts, including items from the 1700's. The docent was friendly and energetic and knew a great deal about the house. We especially enjoyed when she pointed out on old maps how the city used to be. I also found of interest the stories about how Madam Brett was quite a business woman. It was kind of funny how the house has many items that were never part of the house's contents (such as the doll room) but people have donated because they are antiques and unique items. We learned that no-longer- needed keys were buried in the ground because they thought the iron was good for the soil. There was no air conditioning and steep stairs on a hot day. $5 fee.
