I did a tandem jump for the first time today! I had come earlier in July but the weather was not good- they gave us a refund without any questions asked! The weather was beautiful today! A big thanks to my instructor- Eric T! He was calm, enthusiastic, kind, and got us to the ground safely! I would definitely do it again!! http://youtu.be/tqYtPcvprwA

I have to tell you skydive Long Island is a great operation. They recently moved into a new hanger on the old Grumman property. The staff and equipment are top-notch. I have done three tandem jumps with them now and it gets better every time. All the guys I have jumped were great. I would be lying if I didn't say it's pretty scary first time but it's worth every second. I think everyone should try this at least once in their lifetime, it's just so amazing!
Never thought I'd jump out of a plane but OMG! what a great experience. The staff here is friendly and informative would highly recommend going!
First you sign your life away. Then comes the excitement of a lifetime. Then you do it AGAIN!!!!I have not flown in years but up until now I had an equal number of takeoffs and landings. 4 or 5000. Everything from puddle jumpers to jets. With that experience I was looking for safe planes, a safe airport environment, and a high level of professionalism. I wasn't interested in small seat of the pants start up outfits. Sky Dive Long Island has what I am looking for. Even better the field they operate out of is the old Grumann facility. Made for military aircraft but closed to the public so you don't have other aircraft to worry about. The airplane is a Cessna Caravan. It's a fairly large single engine turbo prop. Turbo Props are the engines used by the commuter airlines. They have much better reliability and safety record than the typical piston engine. They also have a big power advantage. It is also worth noting that twin engined aircraft do not offer a safety advantage over the single engine Caravan. When one engine quits in a typical piston aircraft it is coming down...period.So, there you are sitting on the floor of the aircraft, your legs hanging out into the breeze. Your not sitting on the ground....your at 13,300 FEET! You see the New York City skyline, the coast of Connecticut, the Atlantic Ocean! You are wondering WHAT AM I DOING HERE!!!!! Then your falling, tumbling, your senses are overwhelmed. Your not scared, things are happening to fast for that. Just a blurr as as land and sky merge.Your instructor pulls the drogue and the world reorients itself. Up and down are back where they belong. Once again you can see New York, Connecticut, and the Ocean. Now you are in free fall like they show you in the pictures. There is no sense of falling. The wind is whistling past your face but there is no real sense of speed either. Finally, your Instructor pulls the ripcord and you settle into a seated position to site see. Much too soon you approach the ground and swoop in for a gentle landing much like a bird. It's over for now. You know there will be a next time!
I went with a couple of friends and we had a blast. In the beginning, I wasn't sure if I would do it but once there I saw a lot of people doing it so I went ahead and it was truly a great experience. Kudos to all the instructors they were very nice and professional. A must try!
My husband did his first jump here about a year and a half ago. He couldn't stop raving about the experience. Everyone seemed professional and fun.
