Hudson River Expeditions is in an excellent location right on the Hudson which provides for quite kayaking in the marsh and excellent views for pictures. The service on the phone and online prior to us arriving was great and they were very efficient and friendly when we arrived. They had both single and double kayaks which was also nice as there were a few 1st timers with us who didn't feel comfortable on their own. Make sure you bring shoes that you are ok with getting wet and not flip flops as they are expensive if you buy them there and they may not have your size (at least they were available though as a last resort). Park in the train station and walk up to the hut where you pay and get your life jackets then a quick walk down to the water.

Thank you for your feedback, we are all sorry to hear your experience did not result in a wonderful day without distraction. We make it regular practice to reflect upon our workday, debriefing after every tour, lesson, and day's work in an effort to continually improve. Of 3,000 people we have launched this season the feedback has been resoundingly positive. Unfortunately, I believe you caught us when we were not at our expected operating level.Being short staffed surely contributed to any perceived shortfall of service. In my debrief at the end of that day, before receiving your review, I already knew this tour did not run as smooth and professionally as I strive to have all our programming occur. Our complete staff takes feedback, positive and negative, as well as honest self assessment seriously. Please excuse us for in the inconvenience of walking to our facility to complete the required waiver and be sized for a life vest. We do not have any capacity or means to perform these tasks efficiently within the park. I agree the one block distance isn't ideal, I would love to have river front property but considering the constraints of our historic village the location of our shop is as close as it can be. We find most of our guests value our facility as a location they may change clothes, use a rest room, store a bag, ask questions, be lent a dry bag for personal items, grab some sun-screen or forgotten item and freshen up after time on the river.I am glad to hear that the paddle on the river and your time on Pollepel Island were enjoyable. We are fortunate to be paddling though this wonderful Hudson Highlands region. Letting distraction, stress, and annoyances fall away is what we are trying to catalyze for our guests. The provisions we provide are specifically selected as a high-quality option that is focused on fresh, seasonal, and local options. The goal is a have a picnic spread that appeals to all, provides enough calories to re-fuel and engages your sense of flavor. In addition to the hummus, cheese, pita, fresh fruit, and veggies you mention all of our tours also are provided with various charcuterie, which I have heard nothing but delightful murmurings about and more dried supplies (bars, trail mix, etc.) than has ever been consumed on a tour. This assemblage also has a practical application since traveling in small water crafts makes most meal options challenging.I am proud of the staff we have assembled at Hudson River Expeditions and feel our collective credentials are unrivaled on the Hudson River and highly respectable among the industry with six American Canoe Association certified kayak instructors on staff. Your criticism is valued and we will surely perform more consistently as a result of receiving it.Respectfully,Brian Grahn, OwnerHudson River Expeditions

This 4-5 hour kayaking along the Hudson River and in the marshes was one of the most fun I've taken in quite a while due to the excellence of our guides, Laura and Jim, the guests, all proficient, friendly and fun, the sights, the swim at the waterfalls, the picnic lunch, included, and the trip to the Auduban Center. I've been raving about the day to my friends and recommend this to kayakers. Cold Spring is about 1-1/2 hrs. north of NYC by Metro North RR.

Today I had such amazing workout with Reyna and Ken Texler and Hudson River Expeditions! We started out with a warm up kayaking to Little Stony Point Beach which was a nice way to get started and prepare us for the actual bootcamp. It was a great workout and we burned a lot of calories! Lots of laughs and lots of fun! If you want something different in your workout routine then sign up for a class! I definitely will be signing up again for sure!

Nestled next to the Cold Spring Train Station, between the tracks and the Hudson is this Gem of a find. The prices are reasonable and they provide everything you need. Show up with in a bathing suit and they have the rest!We had a grand time paddling around Constitution Island and the Constitution Island Marsh. The Marsh has water trails, word is they are left from previous residents of Constitution Island who wanted to turn the Marsh into a Rice Paddy. The area of the Hudson Valley is loaded with History, George Washington established Forts on both sides of the Hudson River during the Revoluaion. He strung a heavy chain across the river between Constitution Island on the east side and West Point on the west side to prevent the British from sailing freely between Manhattan to Albany; controlling the river and dividing the colonies. You can paddle around Constitution Island and see the rocks and fortifications left from the Revolutaniary Forts.

This business was recently taken over by a young couple. My first outing with them was perfect. Four of us rented two double kayaks for 2 hours. The rate was very reasonable and they provided the necessary vests as well as a quick lecture on kayak usage and safety. I will certainly use them again.

We kayak at home and on vacation, so we are pretty particular about guides and outfitters. One of the reasons we choose Hudson River Expeditions is they are ACA accredited. We were thrilled with the tour and the kayaks. Our guides were Brian and Katie, both of whom shared their skills and knowledge, and were great to spend the afternoon with. We were impressed that the owner of the company, Brian, actually guided a trip. Had a wonderful paddle on a beautiful afternoon!

There are a few kayaking options in Cold Spring and this one is by far the friendliest and best equipped. It's a little out of the way, tucked beyond the train station, but it's totally worth seeking out. The staff were all warm and attentive, they have equipment for lots of different activities, and the water was beautiful. The prices are decent and they generously allowed us to stay out a little beyond the hour we purchased because the low tide kept us from being able to kayak into the cove. Will definitely come again, and maybe try a guided kayaking expedition next time!
