an attractive range of vinifera and hybrid wines are made here, despite the challenges of the climate and the birds, and we enjoyed a very agreeable tasting just as they were closing one Sunday, but we were not hurried or hassled and had time to sit out and enjoy the view of the Whitecliff itself. The "draught" sparkling version of their unique Awosting dry white wine was neat and just perfect for the warm autumnal ambiance.
My wife and I moved up to the Catskills last year from Manhattan. We were so pleased to find this winery in the Spring. Since then we have been back dozens of times with family and friends. The views of the White Cliffs are stunning - hence the name. The wines are very good for New York State (Awosting White, Sheer Chardonnay, White Rose all not too sweet). The owner (Yancy) and staff are friendly and extremely knowledgable. We always feel very comfortable and right at home. We became members after only our second visit. Plan on settling in outside for a few hours it is so worth it!
The local white is excellent. Take a bottle and sit on the lawn and enjoy the view. Bring your own food as none is available on site, the only down side and the reason for the 4 of 5 rating.
I found a nice Cabernet here, a bit expensive, but I hope to be enjoying it at home some evening soon. The young man who worked there was very helpful. I was a bit turned off by all the fruit flies buzzing around, but otherwise enjoyed the experience.
This past weekend we visited the Whitecliff Vineyard and Winery. A great drive to the winery especially this time of year with the changing of the leaves. The Winery itself is very comfortable and the views are wonderful. They have done an excellent job of creating a space in which you would love to sit, have lunch and sip good wine. We did the tasting and it was very reasonable although we paid $6.00 for 5 tastings. Kevin was very knowledgeable about wines and very personable. Definitely worth seeking out and spending some time. Only wish we could have stayed and had lunch. They don't serve food but next time, we'll be sure to pack our own and take advantage of the beautiful porch.
A pet-friendly place to sample delicious wines. Mike was very personable and explained all we needed to know including adding his own ideas based on his analysis of our palate.
We visited the Whitecliff Vineyard and enjoyed a wine tasting. The tasting was only 6.00 a person and we were able to taste 6 different types of wine from a vast array of wines. The wine that we tasted was outstanding and in our opinion was worth the trip and the cost of the wine. We were so impressed that we joined the wine club and purchased a half case of wine. The great part of this was that by joining the Wine Club we received our tasting free and received 10% off the price of the wine purchase. We also enjoyed the spectacular view from the outside veranda, there are tables and chairs and also picnic tables on the grounds. It would make a great place for an adult picnic or get-a-way. We will definitely return again.
Beautiful views of the surrounding mountains from the deck. Wine was all good. A good bit of the grapes came from Long Island and not locally which I found interesting.
We enjoyed the wine tasting and left with a variety of delicious wines! Very knowledgable staff and lots of treats in the vineyard that were extremely tasty!
We bought several bottles and the whites are very good. The winery experience leaves a little to be desired. I hate accidentally "over-indulging" with a wine tasting, so my husband and I like to share. It seemed like we were punished for doing it. Each sample was more like a splash in the glass than a true tasting. It really couldn't be tasted by both of us. Not what I'm used to from people who hope you'll buy their wine.
The Hosts were well informed about there varietals and there was plenty to try. We had a fun time!......
Really not a fan of NY wine, however this place is a gem. The location is spectacular, the people lovely, and wine is all really delicious. I was pleasantly surprised, and would recommend this place to any wine lover, or just meandering tourists. GO!
This was the first of three Shawangunk Trail wineries I visited with my bf on a winter weekend. Overall our experience was excellent. The tasting room is small, as is the deck, which has a gorgeous view. The young man who conducted our tasting could not have been more knowledgeable or enthusiastic. The wines were of very high quality, and there were unlimited crackers, water to rinse your glass, and water for sipping. (No, this setup is not a given, though it should be.) We purchased several bottles and look forward to returning the next time we visit the area.
We stop by Whitecliff's tasting room pretty much any time we are in the Hudson Valley. The wine selection is great and excellent quality (try the Awosting White or the Gamay Noir), the staff are super friendly and informative, and the view from the deck--up towards the Shawangunk Ridge--is superb. A great spot to stop for an afternoon drink after hiking!
Not the most easy place to find, but we spent 1-2 hours at Whitecliff Vineyard on a casual Monday afternoon and enjoyed every minute of it. Outside are picture-perfect places to snap cellphone-camera shots, with the mountainous backdrop. Inside, it was a treat that while you're doing an inexpensive tasting (for about $8, cheaper if you buy a bottle), you can browse around the shop and be entertained by the many offerings (art, trinkets, jewelry, books, etc.). The first red we tasted was the bottle we wound up buying -- we're going to save it for a special occasion. Staff was overly friendly, informative, and taught us a few good-things-to-know about wine. Thanks for a pleasant experience! We're talking about coming back during the holidays for one of the area wine trail's excursions, which Whitecliff is part of, so you can hit this and other wineries nearby with a group that includes food as well as vino.
