A few weeks ago my friend and I got to try the groomed snowshoe trails. Some long up hill walks but the views were worth it. Also, very flat trails to try. For more advanced they provide more challenging up behind the store- I / we did not try these yet. open on weekends for snowshoeing! they do provide some gear at a cost.
Didn't know what to expect but wanted to try a new location to snowshoe. The setting is rustic (portapotty, no food or drinks, but with a small gift shop and snowshoe rental) but the trails are amazing! The hosts, Dee and Greg, have clearly marked every trail and the maps are extremely accurate. There are many locations with benches, and even swings for relaxing. The cave entrance is scenic and several trails have some good vistas. There are trails of various difficulties but many are easy to moderate. We liked it so much we bought the season pass. We will be back!
This is truly a unique and beautiful area to snowshoe. The trails are extensive, overseeing not only frozen waterfalls and caves, but also gorgeous mountain vistas. This is a family run operation and they are extremely pleasant and accommodating. The trails are wide, well marked and well maintained. Each year there are more improvements that continue to make the area more appealing. It is convenient to I-87, yet still very excluded. The family claims to own 1000 acres. There are also X-C And back country trails to enjoy. Finally, the rates are extremely reasonable.
I loved visiting this place with my son in the summer. I was happy that it was not too crowded. This is a great place to visit, even when it's hot. Under the shade of the trees, and rock croppings, it's quite cool.
The natural beauty of the Adirondacks surrounds you at Natural Stone Bridge and Caves. This is full of geological splendor. Learn about the Adirondacks and its make up. This was always a school trip for our children. If you are staying in the area in the summer, you must spend a part of your day there.
My sister and I who are not in good shape had a blast! We were able to walk up and down the stone steps and bridges with little problems. There are resting benches everywhere. It was beautiful at this time of year. There a river that has multiple small waterfalls, woods and you cross back and forth over the river. Definately worth a visit although it is not handicap accessible (although they say it is).
Great exploring. Had a girls trip to Schroon Lake and we spent 1 day exploring the caves. Was very interesting and glad I had my good walking sneakers on!
The walk is relatively easy - there are lights carefully placed below ground to show off the attraction. The "panning" bags are *filled* with goodies (gems, shark's teeth, arrow heads) and very worth the $20. Geode Popping was fun, too!
We went to Pottersville to visit Railroads On Parade and decided to stop by the caves since we were nearby. According to the brochure it said to arrive 1 hour prior to closing which we did. Upon arriving, however, we were told the last entry was at 3:30 so we couldn't go in. I tried to talk them into letting us in, but the "manager" argued with me quite strongly. In fact she was incredibly rude and just rubbed me the wrong way. So here I am writing this review! So again, arrive 90 minutes prior to closing and perhaps it will be a good experience. And wear hiking shoes!
We drove to the caves from Lake George and it was well worth the drive! There is a LOT of climbing, you just need to go early to avoid the crowds and take your time. This adventure is a great way to enjoy nature and education at the same time. The rock shop has many different kinds of rock...some to buy and some to enjoy.
On our trip to Lake George we decided to explore this attraction. It is a real treat! There are no big bells and whistles...just you and nature. The path (very steep in some parts) winds around the Natural Bridge. Along the way, you learn about the history of the area as well as how the caves were formed. Very enjoyable. There is an Adventure tour that takes you inside the cave...including some wading through some streams. It was closed on the day we were there because the water was too high, but we hear it is a good tour. There is a snack bar and souvenir shop, but this attraction is all about the bridge and the river. Worth the trip!
Just like so many places in New York's Adirondacks, Natural Stone Bridge and Caves (NSB&C) multi-tasks and works hard to offer something for everyone without being pushy about it, which is saying something. Nature? It's here with a babbling brook, a noisy cave, and paths into the forest. Education? It's here as you excavate a fossil from the sand with your children or look at the many mineral and rock specimens. Adventure? Oh, it's here all right, in the dark and with a wetsuit. Athletic challenge? Try some disc ("Frisbee") golf up hill, over dale, and around (and up into) the trees. History? It's here, from vast geologic time scales to the unique family facts surrounding this equally unique private nature attraction! And finally, yes, it has the store you need on such a trip - filled with all the shiny stones that kids gawk at and the rock candy they can't live without... So, spend a few hours or, better yet, do as we did and spend a few days. NSB&C offers simple, clean accommodation. You will completely relax as the park closes and becomes quiet. You and your special someone will watch the light of the setting sun dance along the rushing waters of the stream.... and, then, on cue, your happy youngster - hyped up on nature and rock candy - will accidentally bean you with an errant disc... Ah, the perfect family mini-vacation! Happy Travels!
I would suggest Natural Dtone Bridge and Caves to anyone who wants to get away and visit a beautiful brooke and fantastic marble formations. There are lots of different features to see and the disc golf course is a nice addition! The adventure tour was well worth it. Being able to go into the caves is a different experience than just looking at them, and it's worth the anticipation and nerves. Greg and his son are great guides and know how to keep it fun. Beautiful place.
We were staying in the Lake George area and found this place online by chance. We did the self-guided tour and it was a lot of fun, and a light workout! We went in the morning, which was a good choice because it became much busier as we were leaving. The trails are clearly marked and there's a lot to see, from caverns to waterfalls and great wooded areas. It was a great way to spend a couple of hours. Some of the areas are difficult to climb, especially the end, so I wouldn't recommend it for the elderly or those with handicap.
We liked this place. It's been well maintained with pathways, bridges and steps. They give you a map and the different natural spots are explained along the way. It's 14$ for adults and you need running shoes for sure. They have some pairs to loan if someone forgets. It's not easy going on a lot of the paths so you've got to be in reasonable shape to manage it all. Not at all suitable for the elderly or disabled. You can easily spend an hour wandering around, or more. There is a small snack bar and a gift shop.
