Ski or snowshoe with us and explore one of the Catskill Mountain's most...

We headed to Tannersville in the Catskills region, coupling a weekend stay in a nice B&B with cross-country skiing. We were pleased on both accounts as this was our first time in the area. We had our own skis, but skis and snow shoes are available for rental. There are three levels of well-marked, and well-groomed trails, but if you're expecting that the easiest level is flat, you would be mistaken. The trails all intertwine through a beautiful, well-maintained hemlock forest, and you can spend as little or as much time as you want, traversing the pathways. It began to snow shortly after our arrival, and it snowed through the afternoon, turning the forest into a magical winter wonderland. There is a small snack counter available to purchase food - but choices are limited, so bringing your own lunch might be preferable. My husband had a bowl of decent chili, but I stuck with a bottle of water. Kindly, as we signed out at the end of the day, they handed out granola bars for free! This has been a tough winter, but our efforts to "embrace the moment" and to enjoy the best that this season has to offer was rewarded on this venture. We would love to return to Mountain Train Cross Country Ski Center - but since we are "all wintered-out" at this point in the season, it will have to wait until next year!

Great place to cross country ski, Alison is a great fun teacher ! trails are three levels of expertise, well groomed, all the rental gear you could need plus a shop to buy gear.

From the moment we arrived, the staff was exceedingly helpful with getting us outfitted with the right sized equipment. We then took to the trails which were amazingly extensive and offered enjoyment for all experience levels. We were out there for hours and saw a handful of people although the parking lot seemed like it would be very busy. Seemed like everyone was just out on the trails spread out. Gorgeous views in a forested winter wonderland. Will definitely be back!

My husband and I are complete and utter city-dwellers and decided to be outdoorsy and try cross country skiing!Since it was our very first time, we were able to rent all equipment needed as well as take a much-needed lesson. It was so great! I was expecting maybe a 10 min demo and then a big ole shove down the hill, but it truly was a great experience. The two very patient instructors helped us and one other couple for almost an hour with turns, stopping, falling and getting yourself back up (insanely awkward and almost impossible for a beginner without their ingenious tips). The trails were beautiful, clearly marked, and for most of our time, we barely saw another soul! A very nice getaway from the crazy city, indeed. There is a small indoor snack stand (cash only), from which we each had a small bowl of homemade chili, but in hindsight I wish we would have packed a real lunch and brought it with us.We would definitely come back!

This is a decent place for new skiers, after a fresh snow when trail conditions are good. If you are a very experienced skier, want larger facilities or more of a lodge, go to one of the larger ski centers or resorts further upstate or in VT. Novice skiers have poor trial etiquette and destroyed many of the trails in recent snow conditions, making many of the popular trails nearly unusable. Facilities are okay for a day of skiing but very outdated.

The staff was very helpful for the beginners we were. They even have patrol on the trail! It's a small parking lot, so the ration km of trails vs number of people is amazing. The website does not make justice to how extensive and picturest the trails are. Right off the main road, it's easy to get to.

I had passed the drive way and their sign for years. Always a downhill skier, I decided one day to do something different, having only xc skied two other times many years ago. I was able to rent all the equipment with ease, the staff was incredibly helpful at giving me recommendations of what trails to go on, and WOW! there were so many trails, and loops, that I kept myself busy for hours exploring. Other people I saw seemed to be having a good time, it wasn't crowded, people were nice, the scenery was mostly forested. Would totally go back! In fact, got me into xc skiing on a more regular basis!

Me gusto el ambiente alegre del lugar, la excelente atención al esquiador y su seguridad. Apto para toda la familia.
